I heard this song sung by this very quartet for the first time on my car radio driving to work one morning. It blessed my heart and soul so much that I literally had to pull my car over to the side of the road and have a Free Will Baptist shoutin' good time! I was alone, but I wouldn't have cared if someone DID hear me! One of the greatest songs ever written!
It is not how well you sing that makes you the best, it is how well you allow GOD to use you to reach others through the gift he has given you. Ivan did just that as well as the other singers. Gold city changed my life years ago late 80's in an Arkansas church where we gladly paid a little to see such remarkable GODly singers instill in my heart the glory of God!!!!
Heres my top fifteen male gospel quartets of all times, agree with me or not, #15-Dove Brothers #14-Dixie Echoes 13#Inspirations 12-Blackwood Brothers #11-Statesmen #9-Kingdom Heirs #10-The Old Oak Ridge Boys #9-Dixie Melody Boys #8-Florida Boys #7-Kingdom Heirs #6-Singing Americans #5-Triumphant Quartet #4-Legacy Five #3-Gold City #2-The Kingsmen #1- Now who would be the greatest of all times when the bass singer felt his best, and they put everything they had in it, #1-THE Cathedrals

Gold City is far from being the GREATEST Quartet all time!! The Statesmen,Blackwoods, and old Oak Ridge Qt are the standard and that's the bottom line, and I grew up in the 1980's and know that. Listen to the old records that were without Pro Tools and doctored up studio vocal recording of today. The harmonies are incredible.
Lessons to be learned kiddos....take care of your voice when your young. Sing easy, don't scream, and keep off the cigarettes and you won't have to deal with vocal issues as you get older
This is by far the best Gold City lineup. And man alive Tim just seems to get better with age.... Awesome video... Thank you so much for all the old memories.
REUNION OF THE SAME LINE-UP..IN THE.."PREVIOUS" 'MIDNIGHT CRY' VIDEO...22 YRS LATER.. NEAT, HUH..?

I love Gold City, but you need to hear Alvin Slaughter sing this with his mighty voice, he will blow you away!!!

I think they lowered it a half step - for Ivan's sake is my guess. He seems to be struggling a bit on the top end.

What a blessing to hear Brian, Ivan, Mike and Tim together again, now that is Gold City, what a blessing.

Not a big southern gospel fan? This is arguably the best quartet that has ever been. Ivan was with them for over 10 years.

All gospel quartets have big shoes to fill compared to this era of Gold City. They could hit the road right now and have just as great of success.
