@jifigz Hey jifigz, first off, sorry for taking so long to reply. It has been a very busy spring and early summer, so I am way behind on my replies. So the simple answer to your question is yes, I think the difference is justified. I owned a standard D-18 for a lot of years and depth and complexity of the sound that the GE puts out is quite a bit different. If it's at all possible try to play both versions and see what you hear. Feel free to drop me a line if you want more details
I had actually figured this up pretty early on for one of my students. The exception was the bridge, one of my coworkers had figured that up, so I learned that from him. I have found that sometimes the tab can be pretty sketchy unless it comes from a good source. Good luck with it and have fun. It's a great tune to have under your belt.
I keep on listening one after another of all three videos you have made and compared which guitar most sounds better and decided to choosed this video as the good guitar being used for this fingerstyle.
Hey Melvin, first off, thanks for listening and taking the time to leave a comment. I really appreciate it. I have to say that it is very interesting that you should pick this guitar as it has been my main guitar since I bought it back in 1995. The only guitars that I have found that I like better are the Authentics, but I'm just not as comfortable with them yet. So all that to say, I agree, this guitar is something very special.
I love your style, you play all the right songs with the right guitars! This brings me to a questions. What do you like better the d-18v or d-18GE? I am trying to decide on one of them? What is the affect of the addi top on the GE? I also notice you play with a d-18A as well, how do you find it compared to the other two?
Hey bgmunro, first off, thanks for the kind words and taking the time to comment. As for guitar preferences, I could go on for hours. I'll send you a message with my conclusions and you can go from there.
nice picking and great sounding martin freind! i love the sound of the D18. I just wish Martin made their sunburst look more like the Gibson J45. the martin sunburst just aint right in my opinion lol. anyways great sound friend. keep it up
Thanks for listening and taking the time to comment. I appreciate the kind words. Martin's sunburst is definitely a bit different. I like them pretty well, but I would agree Gibson's burst's look a better. I have found that a sunburst Martins does sound a bit different than a natural top Martin. I can't put my finger on what's different, but there is a difference in tone. Pretty strange...
I've listened to some of your videoclips, and I appriciate you playing on different guitars, that helps ppl like me to more easily deside what guitar we should buy:D And you do know how to play also:D Very nice fingerstyle there:) If you were to deside between a D-35 and a D-18GE, witch would it be? Also, have you tried the martin CEO 4R? It kind of looks like the D18GE sunburst, and both have adirondack top..
Thanks for the kind words and I'm glad you are enjoying the videos. I really enjoy putting them together. I'll send you a message regarding the different types of guitars.
Do you feel like the price difference is justified between the 18 Golden Era and the Standard 18? Is it that much better than the Standard?

Hey, this is beautiful! Where did you get the tab from?
You inspired me to learn it but the tabs I found are different from what you're playing...
Thanks!

I really enjoyed your performance. This piece was the first finger style I learned. I agree that the intro and interlude are the best parts.
Cheers.
