  • Is Setzer really this much of a walking stereotype? :P

Ok, so I really don't get the rockabilly thing.. But great guitar player, and Setzer orchestra plays good music. Underrated? He's gotten his due attention, but good musicianship is second to pointless "13-on-the-dozen" tunes pumped out by a cynic industry that cares nothing for good music and it's been that way since they got the taste for money - you know this :)

  • Brian Setzer RULZ! I, and my old friends, owe our 1982 rockabilly phase to him. We got to be greasers in 8th grade! Even then I knew his guitar playing was extraordinary...

  • What was the original program this excerpt was taken from?

  • Gumby guitars.... LOL....

  • I once read a story from a music shop owner in LA during the heyday of all the "hotshot" 80s metal/rock band guitarists. In his opinion, he said that out of all the top guys who jammed in his store, that Setzer was the best he heard hands down.

  • BS is an absolutely out of this world sensational guitar player!

  • @althecatify you can give me BS anytime....usually i wouldn't tolerate BS, but this is the good kind..

  • Brian did this song on his "Dirty Boogie" CD. He's very talented. I met him outside the Wheatley Hills Tavern New Years Eve 1985. I used to work with the mother of one of his musician friends from the 70's.

  • ill take my Dean ML over that Gretchen any day of the week Mr, Setzer... too each their own... prrrrrrick

  • @irishmikelley: Ugh, a Dean ML? It's a guitar designed for 16 year olds. Do you realize the older you get, the stupider you look playing those things? Did that ever cross your mind? Nah, don't answer that. Your a metalhead. Nothing ever crosses metalheads minds. And if you ever decide to sell it, the only buyers you'll have coming around are pimply-faced teenagers who'll finish paying you with pennies, nickels and dimes. BWAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!

  • @Stax63 Actually, the tune was originally recorded by a brother duo by the name of Santo and Johnny, not the Ventures.

  • "my friends don't drive volvos"

    I don't like Brian's friends :/

  • Stray Cats were awesome...What a band! Wish we had popular music like that in the mainstream now

  • "the gumby guitars with the jagged edges..." hahahah not exactly how I'd phrase it but I generally agree on taste in guitars :)

  • @edudzzaj He's talking about the Gibson Explorer type that were popular in metal in the '80s I guess, I remember calling them gumby's myself, though I wouldn't mind having one now, modified upside down or something. It was funny watching all the rockers try to use any shape but the strat shape, which is really the best all around. At least Iron Maiden wasn't afraid to rock the strats as they helped shape metal.

  • @MrStonesword Ah yea I had a sunburst Explorer at one point. Not all bad guitars, kinda limited sound wise but good at rock sounds. Heavy and unpractical shape, but looks cool kinda.

Strats typically are light and comfortably shaped, very nice but not my first choice.

I personally lean towards big hollowbodies or my 335 that kills my neck. People have been experimenting with these shapes since forever. With varying success. We know which ones stuck around for the most part :)

  • @edudzzaj Cool, again I'd take an Explorer now, but you're right about the 335 types being awesome. I'd certainly take a 335, or 1 of Brian's Gretsches (who wouldn't)... I've had a few Ibanez but never a Strat, but the one I got now is a Cantrell G&L Rampage (tribute model, wish it was the other). Gotta say, even though it's limited in features I love its sound, and enjoy it more than the Ibanezes. G&L was Leo's vision after Fender went corporate. Kahler tremolos rock. Thanks for the reply!

  • @MrStonesword G&L seem slick, don't see many of em around Norway though, like Heritage - hard to come by here. Pretty much any of the US built Gretsch hollowbodies would go pretty high on the guitar-o-meter here also :)

  • I like gumby guitars.....

  • @Fiawoo Gretsch is THE coolest guitar on the PLANET!!!!

  • I like the homage to the Ventures!

  • setzer is a guitar maniac.

  • setzer is so underrated he's a very talented guitarist.

  • He's very much appreciated by other musicians.

  • yup, but I think he's also one of guitar Gods..

  • JEFF HAS THE COOLEST HAIR!!!

  • I'm Gumby Dammit!

    Play me!

  • Fuck I want a hot rod,and a gibson es-335

  • If you think that the guitar Brian is playing is a gibson es335, you better get your eyes checked.

And while your at it, buy a fukkin' Gretsch 6120.

cuz, that's what he is playing.

    haha

  • You could have corrected him without being insulting! Does that make you feel superior?

  • Look at the last line of my post. haha

I wasn't trying to be insulting, too bad you missed that last part.

Anyways, point taken. And yes I am superior.

  • I saw the last part. The ha ha came across to me as if you were laughing at him. Generally a smiley face is used to convey humor or tong in cheek. :-)

  • amen mr setzer amen

  • "It's all part of the cool stuff to like, y'know!"

Of course Jeff "Skunk" Baxter is Master, but what a hell of a guitar player has Brian become! 5*

  • What's up with Jeff's hair in this vid. lol

  • nothing strange about Jeff's hair in this vid but Brin's hair is crazy!!

  • @neoshaolin1 BRIAN'S HAIR
