I would pay 300$ for a new freelancer! I still think it has great potential. Imagine landing on planets without docks, and entering an entirely different realm within the stratosphere, which could host plenty of dog fights, then even entering a lower realm landing yourself into a dock, and possibly walking about a pre-defined city space. Not to mention the majestic space settings, exploring further and further, mods+ mods, pushing further and further, even if the radiation means certain death...
I wonder if you guys have ever played Mass Effect or Uncharted. You sound a bit outdated when it comes to epic games. I mean I loved the original Phantasmagoria for PC, but I still had lots of fun playing Silent Hill Homecoming.
@hOOdilol hmmm look here, Mass effect is a great game but thats not the point here, the point is that mass effect isnt a space-flight simulator, sure you fly from planet to planet and then shoot bad guys and monsters, but you dont have control of the normandy you cant activate FTL travel, Joker does that for you. In freelancer you fly, dock with stations, go into an asteroid field and gather skrap for money, be a pirate/mercenery/bounty hunter/trader, the list is endles long

I am not such a geek or a gamer, but this game was MY FAVORITE, and if someone asks me what's your favorite game, I'd say Freelancer, but shame they cancelled it, I HOPE SOMEONE IS READING THIS AND THEY'LL COMPLETE IT.
Freelancer is still alive and working not the x box version but the original on line version. There are servers still updating ships/ weapons /shields / systems / power plants / missiles /mines. Fight one on one in ships from your sci fi shows join factions nothing better than getting into a pvp with another player win or lose it is better than most the games out there on consoles. Search out freelancer on you tube and look for your selfs going to search out my copy of freelancer now .

@VaygrX Black Prophecy has amazing visuals and music, and it's done so amazingly, but all you can do is combat.There's no economy, no different career paths, can't be a miner/trader, nothing.

If you put him in a open space sim and tell him that he needs to travel to another system... he'll most likely fry his brain trying to understand the basic ship controls. Thus he'll give up and go back to playing something that walks him through a tunnel world with an arrow pointing at his objective.
Therefore, the best game is the game HE CAN PLAY. As for what he does not understand... well that game definitely sucks.
@PsYychH0 gross oversimplification. Those involved in the industry know people don't like to quickload a game 20 times to overcome 1 obstacle. You like to think you're above this, but you're not. In the old days you weren't distracted by tons of media to prevent you from quitting a game after a few tries. Now you can't be bothered to do it more than twice with a new game. You will simply flag it as one of those games that suck and cry some more about how things used to be,just like everyone else
If it's worth it, they will reload 1000 times. But the games that are coming out these days are not worth it. If something else is distracting them from the game, what does that say about that game? And you can't be bothered to play it more than once because it's simply not good enough. People (and A WHOLE LOT of people) still play FL, both online and SP. And it's an 8 year old game with severely outdated graphics.

Same with music with your parents, you can't escape it in any other way but self-delusion. My top 10 games are all Snes games, because that's when I grew up. @PsYychH0 Luckily games for those who enjoy open space games are still being released. Check out the X-series (last game is X3-terran conflict, but they are working on a new part of the series). PC is the way to go if you want to play more involved games (but you need to dig a little).
X-3 was released in 2008. So what else since then? Space sims? None that I can remember.
The only good game this year for me is The witcher 2, not a space sim. Of course the lobotomized masses complained about this one too. Why? You probably guessed it already... too hard. So, the next one will probably be another succession of spectacular cut-scenes, like most games today.
Ultimately there's no problem for me, I'll probably keep on playing old games like FL for another decade.
@PsYychH0 If you enjoy more complex CRPGs, then check out Drakensang (the second game is even better). And as I said, they are working on a new X-game, so in a year or so we should have another deep & interesting space sim. Good games are being released for the more "hard core", most of which seem to be made in Europe and don't get a wide release in the US. By the way, make sure to check out The void while you are at it.
Despite the fan-base around Freelancer, you have to admit that no more than 10,000 people are online playing it in any form at any point. I want Freelancer 2 or a similar games to come out too, but until the bigger publishers decide it's worth the expense, not a single decent developer is going to take up the standard for this undead genre. The unfortunate fact of life is industry developers follow the money and right now, fantasy MMOs and FPSs are in, Space Action/RPGs are out.
Freelancer 1 is still alive even after almost 10 years they need to atleast finish the story - how can they expect it not to sell there are still mods being made and workarounds for the loss of the server.
@AJLogan1 I think That they know its nt going to sell because there are SOOOO many mods that people wont go for FL 2 because the mods are FL 2 2(bis) etc... and It would be a pain for the modders to start over

I just had an epiphany. They will never release this game cuz' it would be too fucking huge. Freelancer 1 had a realy big galaxy, und with the standards of today I don't think they can put this much on just one or two X-Box DVD's. so it will either be released for the Computer or it will never happen. maybe as an online-game but not for a console.

@kauyun I agree. You are right. Just look at EVE online, it's fuckin huge. With today's graphics and them not using the blu-ray tech, I don't think they will be too willing to release the game. Maybe sony can buy the title and then release it for ps3 and pc. hopefully. I say we freelancer fans pool money and buy the franchise off of m$ and then have it developed for ps3. perks- no red rings of death on a ps3 and pc. :)

Epic dogfighting
Land on stations ( yep, there's no bar :( )
Ice asteroid belts
History missions
And other stuff thaty i dont remember, story line is great, but too short, and yep there's no game that is better than Freelancer :)

@VaygrX Black Prophecy has amazing visuals and music, and it's done so amazingly, but all you can do is combat.There's no economy, no different career paths, can't be a miner/trader, nothing.
So all it has is combat, and that's just not enough. We need Black Prophecy with a proper economy and many career paths so you can LIVE in the universe. And also planetary landing :) That's the ultimate game.

Today's average gamer wants fast, simple action. For idiots.
If you put him in a open space sim and tell him that he needs to travel to another system... he'll most likely fry his brain trying to understand the basic ship controls. Thus he'll give up and go back to playing something that walks him through a tunnel world with an arrow pointing at his objective.
Therefore, the best game is the game HE CAN PLAY. As for what he does not understand... well that game definitely sucks.

@PsYychH0 gross oversimplification. Those involved in the industry know people don't like to quickload a game 20 times to overcome 1 obstacle. You like to think you're above this, but you're not. In the old days you weren't distracted by tons of media to prevent you from quitting a game after a few tries. Now you can't be bothered to do it more than twice with a new game. If it's worth it, they will reload 1000 times. But the games that are coming out these days are not worth it. If something else is distracting them from the game, what does that say about that game? And you can't be bothered to play it more than once because it's simply not good enough. People (and A WHOLE LOT of people) still play FL, both online and SP. And it's an 8 year old game with severely outdated graphics.

Same with music with your parents, you can't escape it in any other way but self-delusion. My top 10 games are all Snes games, because that's when I grew up. I too thought that good games were no longer created, but you have to look beyond it somehow and see how much better they've actually become (in general ofc same percentage of crap as then ;)

@PsYychH0 Luckily games for those who enjoy open space games are still being released. Check out the X-series (last game is X3-terran conflict, but they are working on a new part of the series). PC is the way to go if you want to play more involved games (but you need to dig a little).

X-3 was released in 2008. So what else since then? Space sims? None that I can remember.
The only good game this year for me is The witcher 2, not a space sim. Of course the lobotomized masses complained about this one too. Why? You probably guessed it already... too hard. So, the next one will probably be another succession of spectacular cut-scenes, like most games today.
Ultimately there's no problem for me, I'll probably keep on playing old games like FL for another decade.

@PsYychH0 If you enjoy more complex CRPGs, then check out Drakensang (the second game is even better). And as I said, they are working on a new X-game, so in a year or so we should have another deep & interesting space sim. Good games are being released for the more "hard core", most of which seem to be made in Europe and don't get a wide release in the US. By the way, make sure to check out The void while you are at it.

Despite the fan-base around Freelancer, you have to admit that no more than 10,000 people are online playing it in any form at any point. I want Freelancer 2 or a similar games to come out too, but until the bigger publishers decide it's worth the expense, not a single decent developer is going to take up the standard for this undead genre. The unfortunate fact of life is industry developers follow the money and right now, fantasy MMOs and FPSs are in, Space Action/RPGs are out.

I just had an epiphany. They will never release this game cuz' it would be too fucking huge. Freelancer 1 had a realy big galaxy, und with the standards of today I don't think they can put this much on just one or two X-Box DVD's. so it will either be released for the Computer or it will never happen. maybe as an online-game but not for a console.
That's the idea I just had watching the trailer. Anybody think my guess could be right? Please answer or PM me on your opinions.

@kauyun I agree. You are right. Just look at EVE online, it's fuckin huge. With today's graphics and them not using the blu-ray tech, I don't think they will be too willing to release the game. Maybe sony can buy the title and then release it for ps3 and pc. hopefully. I say we freelancer fans pool money and buy the franchise off of m$ and then have it developed for ps3. perks- no red rings of death on a ps3 and pc. :)
