This is complete bullshit. I don't know where those before pictures came from but it definitely wasn't Dante's Inferno. I remember going on the orignal and being scared shitless. When I went on it after it was remodeled, it was a huge disappointment. They replaced amazing effects with cheesy blacklight crap and a couple of cheap animatronics. Part of it may be because I'm older, but still- they completely ruined a classic ride.

@MissSparrow15 Obviously you hadn't been inside in a while. I've seen the inside of Dante's for every year for 15+ years. This is exactly what it looked like prior to their renovation. Morey's let it fall to total shit and stuck a few fluorescent static props in the corners. It was absolutely awful. DarkRider saved its life. Even if you don't like the ''after'' compared to what Dante's was in its birth year, it's infinitely better than what it had been for the 5 to 8 or so years beforehand.

This ride is a classic, even back when it was Dante's Inferno. Even though I still kinda get a little freaked out by it, I still make sure I ride this one, while on the Wildwood boardwalk.

i swear i still think about the upside-down screaming face with shifting eyes that USED to be front and center. that thing was terrifying, it didn't matter that i was 13 it still looks creepy now!

i remember this one part in the beggining it showed a guy standing in a glass room and in his stomach there was a big ball of light and lighting stuff that was soo cool. and i remember all the strobe lights they used to have on that ride and the gargoyles they had perched on the tops of the doors would scream at u it used to scare me every time. and then all that fog that used to be there...

Your mistaken rsghms and mandaax3100, it was castle dracula that burned down on the Ceder ave. pier it was there when the waterparks were installed, now the empty space is used for a trampoline ride in the summer. oh but it did burn down in 2002. This ride Dante's inferno is on Surfside pier near 26th ave.

wow it used to look a lot scarier... as a kid (in the 80s) the original dante's inferno scared the SHIT out of me! that upside-down head with the eyes moving back and forth, the green devil up top with red eyes blowing steam out its nose, the paintings of people in hell, "abandon all hope ye who enter here"... just a memory now i guess!

I think with people like us there's a lot of nostalgia talking. I used to roam the Jersey seaboard in my youth and fondly remember this ride. The smoke coming out of that demons head used to scare me. We all cling to those memories as we age.

I haven't been there in years now. I haven't seen the new version. I'd like to get there and check everything out again. Is Dracula's castle even there anymore?

@JunmaiShu Dracula's Castle has been gone since the beginning of the last decade, but they've finally got a new, large Dark Ride called Ignus Futuu or something like that. It's a ghost ship from WWII and from all accounts it's pretty damn cool.

Yeah I heard about that, that's ridiculous. The worst part is all the nostalgia that burned down with the building, not the structure itself. I have fond memories of the boat ride too.

Why can't these people burn down things that suck instead?... like government buildings, collection/telemarketing agencies, and reality TV studios.

I'm 40 spent summrs on this pier. It's sad this ride wasn't maintained over time, so a major overhaul like this might not have had to happen. Today better with live actors, perhaps.More props,scarier inside, sure. But the original airbrush work and sculpted art outside the facade in the past easily outrivals the new slap and dash paintjob advertised here.Sorry but in that case older was better IMHO. I was there on Memorial Day. They've completely revamped the ride. It's called Dante's Dungeon now and they have live actors in it. A lot better and scarier than before.
