I had the pleasure of seeing Teena Marie live back in 1997 at the House of Blues in Hollywood on the sunset strip and let me tell you that she brought the house down! I have seen well over 100 different artists in concert and Lady T in a intimate setting like the House of blues was by far one of the greatest shows I have ever seen. I love this song. I read somewhere that Teena performed this one live on "Soul Train" instead of lip-synching; good on her!! With a voice like that, live is how it should be!! I saw this Soul Train in the 80's and wondered what will become of this lady with real Passion, Voice, and Moxy! (also on MTV) She wrote lyrics-a total talent. Could not believe the news on 12/26/10 that she just passed, at just 54. Time goes too fast. An inspiration.

@MrArpas12345 actually she makes reference to God in quite a few of her songs. And if you search "Teena Marie His Eye on the sparrow" its a clip of her singing an old Gospel song for some BET function. Teena had a special relationship with God, one that only He and she know.

When I joined the US Navy in 1980, you were still rocking my soul on cassettes in Beirut Lebanon, Southeast and Southwest Asia, Central America, and all over Europe. I love this song. I read somewhere that Teena performed this one live on "Soul Train" instead of lip-synching; good on her!! With a voice like that, live is how it should be!! That said, RIP to Teena Marie, one of my favorite singers ever. She never got the recognition she deserved for her monumental talent.

This is making me cry beyond words.This woman was a pioneer.She blurred the color barriers,with pure talent class,intelligent,grace,humbleness which in my opinion all of those for a woman rolled into one is pure sexiness.She was sexy w/o even trying.Her love songs were pure poetry.These "girls" should seriously pay homage to a real woman who they know is was and always will be someone to look up to.

I'm 23 and I've loved her music ever since my mom introduced me to it. She told me that she used to dance to "Lovergirl" at the club. lol. Awww man, her and I both were devastated to learn about her passing. It's so sad how all these REAL singers are passing away sooner than later. All we're gonna have left are the memories...these artists now don't even come close to these amazing singers such as Lady T...I'm still in disbelief and saddened that I will never get to see her in sing in person...

Teena Marie was one of the fewest white singers to go into R & B. Not that many can do what she's has done. It's a shame that we lost her. This is one of my favorite Teena Marie songs ever. She was awesome. That voice was sick. She makes these singers that r now in the business to shame. RIP Teena!!!There will never be another singer like u was.
