Saw Etta perform this at an AVERY FISHER HALL//NYC's Lincoln Center back @1990 as part of a BLUES DIVAS concert with Ruith Brown, Koko Taylor, and the soul queen of New Orleans, Irma Thomas. She kicked off her espadrilles and sang it A CAPAELLA//sans microphone with such ferocity of feeling that I still get chills (now!) as I recall the evening with my late friend Esther Kravitz. It was announced today that Etta has terminal cancer. Godspeed to her and blessings to her sons and families.

Kiki Dee, a singer/songwriter from the 1970's, wrote this song. She is,perhaps in America, best known as Elton John's duet partner in "Don't Go Breakin' My Heart".
Elton also recorded a version of it, which was the b-side of "Island Girl" back in 1975. It appears as a bonus track on the CD remaster of "Rock of the Westies." Etta does a killer arrangement of it, though - never heard this version previously - WOW, is it great!

The organ player in this video is a guy named Mike Finnigan. Etta James says that Mike is one of the most soulful vocalists ever. Check out some of his YouTube videos under "Mike Finnigan" and the "Phantom Blues Band". Mike had a band called Finnigan & Wood that played around Wichita, KS, in the early 70's. Used to go see them play.

This song is so emotional!! Listen to the words and the way she"s expressing it!! You can it affect her. I believe she started thinking about her life back then. That song has a sentimental purpose taking fr some things that actually happen in her life. She explains this songs purpose in her book. Very touching!!

Elton also recorded a version of it, which was the b-side of "Island Girl" back in 1975. It appears as a bonus track on the CD remaster of "Rock of the Westies." Etta does a killer arrangement of it, though - never heard this version previously - WOW, is it great!

Excellent point! Let's give credit where credit is due. Elton John and Kiki Dee wrote and recorded the original version of this song. Etta's is great, but Elton's version is the best!

The organ player in this video is a guy named Mike Finnigan. Etta James says that Mike is one of the most soulful vocalists ever. Check out some of his YouTube videos under "Mike Finnigan" and the "Phantom Blues Band". Mike had a band called Finnigan & Wood that played around Wichita, KS, in the early 70's. Used to go see them play.

This is a voice from one of the GREATS, that I have loved since the very first time I ever heard and saw her in Dallas, TX. During the G.O.D.(good-ole-days) when we attended concerts at the Longhorn Ballroom. This song makes me feel so grand. KEEP IT UP BABY!

Sugar on the floor...Lord knows I've felt this way before. You try to love someone and there is no love back. Ms. James sings this song with her very soul. God bless Etta James, she has still to get the respect and recognition she deserves for decades of great music and performances. Hope she gets it while she is still with us. Etta, you're one of the great ones.

Kiki Dee's song, but I believed Elton recorded it before Etta... Either way best version I've ever heard is on Etta's Live in San Franscio in 1983, she is in rare form on that one.
