PhysX isn't pointless. It's the way Nvidia wants to implement it that's pointless. Instead of working towards an open standard to improve gaming as a whole they try and exploit a feature, that is too small to exploit, for their own benefit. People won't buy a card for PhysX as it's just a small feature and developers won't code for it without incentives as it's an Nvidia-only feature and people don't want it that bad.
Personally I think things like clothing, hair, and objects attached to a character moving realistically is the next step after mainstream games reach Crysis' level of character detail. It will make much more of an impact then just adding more polygons to make a character look even better.
@JigenD The Nalu demo isn't dynamic, but I don't think you should have been boo'd off the stage either. At 26fps this still won't be much use in games at that level of detail. But I guess a clever guy would find a balance where a lower level of accuracy could still give reasonable results.
To be honest though, I'm more interested in interactive physics (gameplay) than eyecandy physics. I think HL2 is still pretty far ahead of a lot of games and the physics there were pretty limited.
I love how all hair rendering demos now have basically just given up attempting to be realistic and just go with what looks nice.

They're bascially showing how pointless PhysX is, here.

This probably won't be seen in games for about 5 years

he said 26-45 frames, so 20 heads in the scene would be like 5?

Can't believe you people rated me down for my comment. Boy you guys sure are ignorant about technology. It's a shame.

It's 2010 and Hair still isn't even as good as Nvidia's Nalu demo on the 6800GT.
All this and they couldn't even render a face and body.

@JigenD I mean in-game hair BTW

look at the physics. This hair not only looks real, but it acts real. The Physics are really amazing!! It's all dynamic remember that.

@JigenD, um I think this hair looks lightyears ahead of that demo from the 1990's... :rolleyes:
