His left hand has a small problem though. a lag of sort coz of regular right hand use as compared to the left hand. Have it so thats what I was looking for. Trying to get rid of it with scales too. Like his tips.
He is good at playing the piano. But, I would expect that he is considering the circumstances. I am not so concerned about being impressed, at this point. However, the one thing that I am confused about, is finger patterns for the scales, etc., which, is not clear. What is proper or most efficient, etc.?
@topdrummerjohn With your right thumb being 1 and pinky 5...start with C major scale (all white keys) and play CDEFGABC using the 12312345 finger pattern going up and 54321321 going down (descending) . going up u cross your thumb Under after the first 3 keys are pressed. Coming down u cross ur third finger Over after the first 5 keys are pressed. Reverse this for left hand. Hope this helps! this same finger pattern works for all the major scales starting on white keys.... except F!
Well, as per my previous comment.... You are partially correct. An electric piano will help a "beginner" develop dexterity, strength, and speed to a certain level. But, if they want to become an advanced level pianist and try to play Chopin, etc. The exercises must be done on an acoustic piano, or at the very least.. an electric with much more hammer action than ur keyboard. It really all comes down to how Advanced the player wants to progress to. But, u gotta start somewhere. So keep up thevids
Thank you so much, for making these tutorial videos. I've always played keyboard since i was a little girl, and have always been good at it, but i have wanted to get better. Your tutorials are really helpful and at a level anyone can understand and learn. This has really improved my way of seeing the keys and understanding the way i play the keyboard. So once again, thank you! :)
You seem to be a good player and you play way better than me, but I would like to leave a "constructive critic" (don' t know if it is the right term in English). I have taken some lessons with a teacher that attended to a National Conservatory of Music here in Argentina and advised me that twisting the wrist is not appropriate and was one of the things I needed (and still need) to correct.
Hello NATE !!....I am a beginner to piano so please guide me to buy a good piano so that after a couple of years when i will be a good piano player i do not have to buy another one.......Your lesson are very brief and helpful to beginners as compared to other youtubers......PLEASE reply me.....
also, would you say this is similar to learning where they keys on a computer keyboard are? Like after a while, you can play without looking? And does every piano have the same feel? Because have you ever noticed when you borrow your friend's laptop, it just feels.. off?
this is probably the best guy to watch to help you progress.. i learned long ago that what he is doing is exactly what you need .. and even though nobody seems to want to admit how long it really takes- FORTUNATELY it's FUN doing those exercises.. and when the sound of those keys come feeding back to your brain you get hooked on it.. and then you don't seem to be in a such rush to even learn a song.. but after 2 years of that i'm just starting to learn to read music.. THAT is hard.. lol..
@az101010 yea sry, now that u mention it, i actually have been playing for awhile. I learned a lot with lessons as a kid but stopped and have been playing on and off for years. It all came back really fast and i learned new things rely quickly as a result.
Ur somewhat exaggerated comment just made it look like u were trying to discourage people from even trying.
"Ur somewhat exaggerated comment just made it look like u were trying to discourage people from even trying."
yeah that was kind of my mistake.. but whatever rate you progress- playing the piano is not only richly fulfilling- it's also like a secret.. definitly worth it for anyone to just start from scratch anytime..
what a joke- i've been doing that everyday for 2 years and i'm not even close to what he can do.. nobody is honest about how long it really takes to get your fingers free and independent like that on the piano keys.. plan on four years before your fingers even START to work anything like what he is doing..
@da11235813- no actually i don't think there is anything unusual about my progress.. it just takes a long time.. the kind of finger control this guy has in this video will take someone at least five years.. i know this is true.. infact- just ask this guy how long he has been doing that and don't be surprised if he says ten years..
I like how he starts off this lesson by saying that they key to obtaining speed is by playing slow. As a guitarist I know this is true. Also, he said not to flick the fingers which can cause them to strain. He also plays slowly so the viewer can keep up with no trouble!
when i try do it with my left hand (weaker hand) I just keep lifting my fingers up really high to go to the next key. I hope the payoff is worth the effort.

@thrillscience No one would look fatter in real life than they do on camera. Camera adds ten pounds or whatever.
