  • The best thing to do in this situation from a "Self defence" standpoint would be to get up, hit him the face while you're doing so, then run.

  • fact is you don't always know what situation you will have to fight in and what is on the line. So its stupid to say "this isn't good self defense" or this won't work on "the streets" i find people over enphasis the supposed deadly streetfighter. this idea of all fights are gonna be on a pavement filled with nothing but broken glass & aids needles while being surrounded by tons of multiple opponents ready to pounce the moment it hits the ground is preposterous . train to end it wherever it goes

  • self defence? If you tried that on with me you would have no Balls left!

  • whats the one that's like this only you go in from the side

  • @arisaka101 I think that's the D'arce Choke

  • Thrse

  • or you could just hammer fist the back of his skull, he gets knocked out and you walk away...

  • @boonie1994 yeah but less brain damage with this one. less lawsuits

  • @beargrylls3 Remember, this is self defense, you don't risk your life rolling around with them to avoid a lawsuit.

  • @boonie1994 good point. but it would much cooler plus no chance of breaking a hand. people break hands all the time from punching in mma and boxing and they have gloves on. it's just a good option to have.

  • @boonie1994 well if your in competition all headshots to the back of the head are illegal

  • I thought this was going to be a sushi making video

  • sorry davidgard53 I just watched a fighter take the fight with this technique in the UFC championships taking place in the middle east for the first time. I agree with what you are saying but most people don't know how to think in such situations they are just desperate to attack or degend themselves uncontrollably.

  • @radular if you um had friends of your own you wouldnt have to worry about that would you?

  • @ radular and @samlewis193: or don't fight multiple people at once. plus with any technique shown you can just say "what if they guy pulls out a knife" or a gun or what if his friend runs me over with a car. then you need a different technique, probably the "get the hell outta there" move.

  • What happens when his friend standing around stomps on your head?

  • @radular then that there your skewd just don't fight on the ground

  • that whole thing would never have worked out if the victim kept his leggs together and walked with him

  • umm alright so your saying this isnt good for self defense bull shit how the hell are u gonna get attacked if u put him to sleep exactly...

  • I woulndt know when 2 use this move

  • @IBinatree same i take BJJ but in the parkingl ot or street its different

  • This looks great if you are in a competition, but it is completely irresponsible to pass this off as self defense. First, the number one rule of self defense is not to go to the ground, and, if you do, get up as soon as possible. He started this from a superior position, so why not strike to the head while getting to your feet. Then you can leave the situation and avoid further conflict. I am a self defense intructor, and I could not pass this off in good conscience to my students.

  • i dont think its for street self defense i think it is for mma ground fighting.

  • First of all, it may not be your choice if you go to the ground, which tis the whole reason grappling is essential for self defense. Second, it may not be an option to get up as soon as possible, especially if the guy is on top. Third, why let go of a perfectly good choke or crank that will end the fight to throw a strike?

  • That is a very well thought out answer, but it is still flawed. If someone takes you to the ground, your first instinct should be to get to you feet and run immediately. That is self defense. The longer you are on the ground, the more risk you put yourself in of being attacked by a third party. Not to mention, you never want to prolong an encounter. If you choose to hold someone on the ground, you are the aggressor, and in the eyes of the law that is enough to land you in jail as well.

  • If someone is trying to take my head off with a punch, the last thing I want to do is get up and let them up to have the chance to punch me. I need to finish them off first then get up.

  • Anything that relies on submission to end a fight should'nt be used in self defense situations. It's just too risky. Either you severly injure your opponent (because in most self defense situations the opponent might not want to submit and give up) or you're wasting time while the opponent's buddies come to his/her rescue.

  • @davidgard53 why not just teach it just in case ur students are in this position

  • @davidgard53 well i have been in many fights and i try to go to the ground im dominate there while they are punching me feeling confident im setting something up that will hurt more than those punches

  • @davidgard53 you are actually very right. but if someone does go to take u to the ground. and u for some reason no how to scramble then this is a very effective technique to stop a bigger person who isnt going to stop fighting. a simple choke hold that isnt going to do real damage.

  • @vilepunk again davidgard53 most ground fighters who know there wrestling and ju'jitsu when they take you down, there is no scrambling away. Like GSP is a master of the take down, and it is very effective. However he is a well rounded fighter, so in any case maybe learning and inproving in all area's would be best instead of just stand up or ground.

  • @davidgard53 dude that is bs, straight up, not go to the ground??? i take fights to the ground all the time, and ive never lost, stand up striking is useless if u cant stay standing up, i may not exactly agree with the technique at the most, but i finish all fights on the ground, if u know what ur doing u can possibly risk no harsh damage, or getting knocked out

  • @davidgard53 Hello Master, Training today?

  • if you were the grandmaster of the zen you claim to be, you would know that a choke does absolutely no permanent damage when applied right, it will make them unconscious for 15 seconds or so as well, giving you the chance to run/call the cops. Also, It isn't uncommon for a guy who attacked you to file a lawsuit, especially if he's the one walking away with the cuts and bruises from you punching them in the face repeatedly, but if you choke them out, it wont leave any long term marks or evidence.

  • @davidgard53 "Number one rule of self defense in not to go to the ground" are you kidding me? Maybe not against multiple opponents but some grappling is good for multiple people, see: shinya aoki waka gatame, or any takedown can do serious damage on pavement and you dont have to follow them to the ground. "A teacher is never a giver of truth - he is a guide, a pointer to the truth that each student must find for himself. A good teacher is merely a catalyst." - Bruce Lee.

  • @Pettyh Good point, but you know a lot of people are ignorant or at least as far as grappling goes.I've won many street fights with my grappling mind you I never use it when there's multiple opponents, or weapons involved, but it is useful.I always say you must be prepared for anything, and I'm a smaller guy 5'7 139 pounds with a 67 inch reach even though I'm very strong for my size going toe to toe is still a bad idea for me considering most people i've fought out weighed by 50 pounds or more.

  • @mmawilldesha Yeah, the point i was trying to make with the bruce lee quote is that you should do what works for you based on your strengths, and to always allow reinterpretation to rules youve been taught, because different styles and techiniques work well with different physical and mental abilities. As far as street fights go i think grappling is a great choice for me because I have the abilities, and people who dont always react the wrong ways, and probably think theyre getting raped.

  • @davidgard53

Open your mind! When you know Jiu jitsu, you could defend better from the ground against a stronger attacker. Someone may also attack if one is laying down. Either way it is good to defend form the feet, but it is even better to know how to defend and finish from the ground.

  • @davidgard53 but it does show how if the fight does go to the ground how to at least get in a position where u have the upper hand

  • he didnt have to do the last bit he couldve had a perfectly good move as it was

  • nice vid, but he could post a basic defence move agianst it to, when in that turtle guard u can move one or two hans below youre chin to protect him from getting his arm around youre throat, but then u throw knees so he will be forced to put one hand out, then u are basically back to when he shows the grip u have to apply to perform the roll. but great vid. Peace

  • nice

  • nice

  • it's cool I'll try it on one of my friend :D

  • If I'm not mistaken that is a gator roll with an anaconda choke. I'm pretty sure I'm not mistaken.

  • one of my favs from that posit, alot easier i find with the gi using the lapel.

  • is that really effective guys?i don't know if i can do that one,i'm usually never on tha ground. do u guys have any standing up vids?
