No actually I didn't becasue I don't pirate and distribute DVDS. You don't get it because I was referring to a new law that makes PIRATING punishable by up to a $1000 fine and 1 year in jail. This is a maximum sentence. There is no law against buying pirated material. In the video I discouraged the use of a HYPOTHETICAL law making buying pirated material a crime.
i think they should scrap the jail sentence for bootlegging and just increase the fine to a figure that a bootlegger would reeeally struggle to pay: like $5-10,000 because sometimes the people selling the fake DVDs are old and frail, and shouldn't really be doing time with felons who might be doing time for "assault and battery" or even murder...

You sell a product, someone sells the pirated version so you sell fewer products. This increases cost of production so you increase the price.

The "economic principle" deflects from the bigger problem: the fact that these things have ALWAYS been too expensive for poorer people (i.e. the people who are usually bootlegging, pirating, or purchasing bootlegged materials). Poorer people, not stingy and sticky fingered people, face a REAL problem. In a word: Are they live a communally isolated and socially disconnected life, or sacrifice their basic necessities to buy stuff they don't really NEED? Are millionaires privy to this? Do they care

No actually I didn't becasue I don't pirate and distribute DVDS. You don't get it because I was referring to a new law that makes PIRATING punishable by up to a $1000 fine and 1 year in jail. This is a maximum sentence. There is no law against buying pirated material. In the video I discouraged the use of a HYPOTHETICAL law making buying pirated material a crime.

i think they should scrap the jail sentence for bootlegging and just increase the fine to a figure that a bootlegger would reeeally struggle to pay: like $5-10,000 because sometimes the people selling the fake DVDs are old and frail, and shouldn't really be doing time with felons who might be doing time for "assault and battery" or even murder...

But, there's already a federal law that makes it punishable up to a $10,000 fine. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to deter many people. I think that the purpose of this new law may be to quell a situation that lawmakers feel is getting out of control.

I agree that there should be fine for those who bootleg movies, the jail sentence seems overkill. As to punishing those who buy the films I think that is not going to work. Not for the reasons she stated, since purchasing a movie that you know is bootleg is basically receiving stolen property.

I know. The original book is titled "The Painted Veil" but it doesn't have anything to do with the story. I thought the translation was wierd too, but "The Nightmare before Chirstmas" is "El Extraño Mundo de Jack" (The Strange World of Jack or Jack's Strange World). I dont buy any dvd's or movies or cd's unless im giving them away as a present. Then ill go out and buy the real 1. Anyway I mean I jus watch the streams for movies, like I saw Ironman Sunday night on the computer for free with not bad too bad qualtiy. And its not illegal to watch the movies if they are posted on a site. only if u downloadthem.
