Besides this method of making synthesized WAVs I also sometimes use the "NES Font Advance" SF2 Sound Font (search for it on the web). This Sound Font contains: 28 variants of general square & sawtooth instruments, 2 GameBoy square synths, 1 GameBoy sawtooth, 6 different synth basses, a NES triangle, NES base square, NES sawtooth, 4 different NES square (14%, 25%, 50%, 87.5%) and a synthesized Tom.
i have been making a couple of songs using a few buttons on my computer, like when i press a key it will make a beeping noise and im just making music out of it. Is there any program of way of making different sounding keys, like A=1 sound and B=another sounds and i can just press them and make music?
@gravywpg You can draw your own waves, though. Just click "Add silence/resize" near the magnifying glasses in the left of the sample window. And at the resize box, type in the sample size, to create a single silence wave. Then click the pencil, and start drawing!
There's no problem in having a sample not in line with the DC (center), you won't hear any difference, but the volume spectrum is lower (so you can't do 0-255 values if 8 bit).
Also, in the newer versions of OpenMPT there's a button for automatically centering the waveform.
@AltXproductions tommorrow I'll put all the wavs that i use on rapidshare (or megaupload (i can't remember wich service it is i use)) and send you the link
@AltXproductions Audacity is 100% free and can do what ace of wave can do, and more! :) Audacity has Linux, Windows and MAC versions. Modplug Tracker runs great under Linux via WINE and of course, Ubuntu Linux can install to an Intel and / or PPC MAC -- no problems! So in short: PC or MAC, Windows or not -- regardless, its all good! :)
I must admit being quite suprised about that notepad trick, I never knew that was possible! Ah, the wonders of the internet :) You may want to take a look at MilkyTracker though because it will save you assloads of time. All you need is the inbuilt sample editor that allows you to draw waveforms in any way you please. It is also much easier to hear the results this way.
can you reupload the chip sounds to mediafire or something since megaupload no longer exists?
drperson12 12 hours ago
Can you please release your chiptune sounds on rapidshare? You probably now that megaupload is trolled by the fbi :3

What happened to megaupload? It got seized by the FBI!

You can do everything you did here with only notepad and mpt, please let your users know:
1. make wave in notepad
2. load into mpt like you did
3. click normalize (2nd button top row sample tab)
4. click signed / unsigned (10th button)
5. click normalize (2nd button)
6. click remove d/c offset. (10th button)

Have you ever used the GM.DLS for sampling?
I use it very often for my own projects.
It's the samples table for the midi sounds, as far as i know.
The track(s) i have on my own channel is made purely with samples from GM.DLS, though most of them are just 16 bit polished stuff.

Can't you use the 'Normalize' function in Audacity to do what you're doing in Ace of Wave but without using a shareware program?

A to Z Z to A. What the heck is that about? How does that define a waveform?
BallawdeQuincewold 7 months ago
@BallawdeQuincewold Z is the highest pitch of the waveform and A is the lowest. So in a 52 segment waveform you're defining the pitches of the tune.

i've found my own way of making samples,
it uses formulas,
this, for example, is a sort-of bass drum:
r*(sin(10000/0.1*t)*(512/0.00001*t*t))+127
this is basically what got me onto that
because, the space character is an ANSI-value of 32, and a z is a 122, which means there's a fair difference, that's exactly what's happening
whats happening is mpt is turning the ANSI value to the volume level (0-255) of the sample
i'm using a formula to calculate them with a program i made
AerialMage 11 months ago
basically what the formula does:
r = random, so it adds a noise factor to the sound
t = time, increases by 1 for each sample
sin(10000/0.1*t) is a sine wave with a decreasing pitch
(512/0.00001*t*t) makes the sound noisier at the start, and turns down the volume over time
+127 centers the sample

@RetardedxVideo in MPT you can put a different sample on each key of an instrument if that's what you mean?
AerialMage 11 months ago
@AerialMage whats that?
RetardedxVideo 11 months ago
you can center it using "remove dc offset" in modplug
Stickheadz32 1 year ago
so you can't just generate a waveform from within the sample editor, as you can in milkytracker?
gravywpg 1 year ago
@gravywpg No, it cant do that, maybe that's a feature they could include in the next release.
