last time i saw them was in '93 in santa cruz (i sneaked in thru the back)...yow treated the audience to a rectal exam...no joke. after it was over i went out back and helped yow park their van...can't believe they let him drive!
yeah, one of the craziest bands ever truly a privilege to have roamed this earth when they were roaming this earth.saw them recently at the paradise ,boston ,crazy show and it sold out .I met dave and hung out for awhile, he was also crazy of stage (unspeakable things happened) it was a cool night ,one worthy of my memoirs.gimmie danger little stranger and i'll....
I was at this show, right in front of the stage. The best 8 dollars I ever spent. David Yow was insane! Also saw them at the Fallout Shelter in Raleigh earlier that year. That was a brutal show, Yow was hanging off of the ceiling, punching out the ceiling tiles and ripping down some of the lights.
Man, I saw the Jesus Lizard twice in their prime: First at Lollapalooza '95 when David Yow jumped into my arms and threw me a Budweiser. A second time in '96, when they opened for Ministry and proceeded to blow them offstage. I got to meet a bedraggled Duane Denison at that show as he scampered around the coliseum looking for rolling papers. They were an incredible band.
I think the reason he looks astounded is because they totally fucked up - Duane Denison missed out about 30 seconds worth of the song. Still, The Jesus Lizard playing a track and fucking it up is still worth more than a hack, pristine set from pretty much any other band.
Yeah, you're right. It's quite a testament to their abilities with each other as players that they just rolled right through it and made it very seamless. For the longest time I couldn't quite figure out if it was intentional or not, since Sims is also playing right at that moment.
Good shit!!! the crowds at those shows were always so intense! I would go to a jesus lizard show and get brusied up and shit but would be loving every minute of it. Just one of the most kick ass shows you could ever hope to see.
this is so great! - every song - especially mouthbreather - is played faster than the album version; and: bass and guitar look like the geeky protestants compared - as always - to yow. (that's the mix.) they rule.
I managed to see them live four or five times (including at this very club about six years later). Mouthbreather is one of the greatest rock songs of all time, and The Jesus Lizard never failed to kick ferocious ass live.
This is great. Could We get anymore Jesus Lizard or Scratch Acid stuff?? That would be greatly appreciated. I mean interviews footage, videos, anything. Been looking fr this stuff glad to finally see some.
a weird thought just came to mind, if the JL ever DID get back together, you think their shows would be the same? i mean, think iggy pop, imagine how odd it would be 10 years down the line to have a mid to late 50s Yow running around naked on stage. i wouldn't care, i'd still check 'em out.

They certainly kicked a whole mess of ass live. A David Yow stage dive left a boot mark on my collarbone that was there for six months.
Agree on the nice quality of this video. Good work.
