  • It's obvious these poor creatures were starved to death, an occasional pea thrown in the box they can't get out of. These creatures are risking brain damage! They can't close their ears and nose with their hands! yeah right... believe it yourself?

I mean seriously people... Rats have been able to swim before humans probably could. They can handle (even deeper) diving than this. What's more fun to see than two rats having fun swimming a couple of minutes and chasing treats? Good exercise!

  • That's so cute! they like to swim!^^

  • its no wander they have survived so long, in many ways they are smarter than people

  • Amazing! My rats don't like deep water, but I still love 'em anyways ... they are amazing pets :)

  • I love it!. My rats Meeka and Tips give you a 5!

  • mad ,whats with the music? sounds like something out of a john carpenter film lol .......

  • Damn.. that's crazy.

  • My rats can't stand water. I was slow and let them go to the water themselves but they still run away from it. I wish they did like water even just a bit so that their bath would be easier.

  • Mine too!! :(

  • many rats are excellent swimmers.

  • From what i was told if u see rats ( or hamsters) doing that washing face action- it means they feel safe..which i saw at the end of the vid and leads me to believe that they love swimming.

  • That is so amazing and adorable how did you teach them to do that!

  • Must be one of those new Navy Seal attack rats.

  • as far as ive observed in the rats i work around, they only eat when they feel safe, which these guys are shown to do.

  • I think, everyone needs to take deep breaths and chill. some opinions shouldnt be typed. Either the rat i chasing a pea, or geting out. WHO CARES WHOS RIGHT OR WRONG! jeez. Maybe its scared, or maybe its having fun. who fuckin cares. i dont. u shouldnt either, its an opinion, its a video, fuckin enjoy it. fuckin critics.

  • YES. THANK YOU!

  • Thats so cool. Do you still breed rats?

  • Rats have been domesticated for around 100 years. They no longer carry the deadly diseases that we associate with wild rats. And the rats in this video are not stressed out they've been accustomed to swimming, like you would a child. Small amounts of water with toys to get them used to it then over several MONTHS you increase the water level. It's not like they just tossed in 2 rats in a tank of water lol.

  • Is that a high white rat? If it is, and they're breeding it, those kids need a swift kick in the ass and their rats should be rehomed.

I don't believe that the tank is safe. Their eyesight is terrible enough without blurry, wet glass and trying to balance to keep their head above water. A proper platform should be provided for safety. Natural swimmers or not, even professionals need to take a break. If the reason you don't have one is because they won't come off of it then don't force them.

  • rats are natural swimmers. Don't be haters cause they're better tan you guys. :)

  • You people clearly aren't very perceptive. These rats are far from stressed out. Look at their body language, look at the fact that one of them is CHASING A PEA on the bottom of the tank (NOT trying to find a way out, you morons!). If those rats were really that stressed and that scared, they would be jumping towards the TOP of the tank frantically, not diving all the way to the bottom and chasing peas around, then returning to the surface to casually groom themselves.

  • I think the rats enjoy to swim and dive.

Do they dive because it lies food on the bottom ? It looks like they diving to get it

  • These rats do not seem distressed to me.

  • I´m against animal testings,

and I think the rats search for a way to come out of the water...

  • They don't have to dive if they don't want to. They aren't forcing them under water. I don't think this is a test... I think the rats enjoy it

  • They dive because they search for a way to come out of the water.

They have no chance to come out of the water alone.

  • lmao, they dive to get the treats, Stupid. They were trained to do this. Dont comment unless you know what your talking about, otherwise you just sound like a fucktard

  • and btw

you can clearly see that the rat diving is only swimming near the edges, and it doesnt get any of the treats it goes right back up! :)

    ik im annoying

  • @FlowerCinderella

    i totally agree!

you can see that there is a roof on the box they're in and most rats would want to get out of the box after swimming a bit (if they like swimming)

KandyBat ''Dont comment unless you know what your talking about'' and how do you KNOW that shes not right then?

  • That is really irresposible. Why would you put your rats in a tank of water where they can't get out on their own? You should not own pets!

  • well you know what LADY? ILL TELL YOU WHAT! STOP SAYING THINGS THAT YOU MIGHT THINK IS COOL TO OTHER PEOPLE. THESE RATS LIKE WATER THATS WHY THEY ARE DIVING IN THE WATER, GENIOUSE. IF THEY WERE SCARED THEY WOULDNT DIVE UNDER WATER OR GO AFTER FOOD IN THE WATER. THEY WOULD BE TRYING TO GET OUT FROM THE TANK! YOU SHOULDNT OWN PETS. YOU OBVIOUSLY DONT KNOW HOW TO GIVE THEM WHAT THEY LIKE. THEY ARENT CATS.

  • They are a better swimmer then i am...>:O

  • if u ask me they're desperately looking for a way out =\

  • this is gross when i watched this video i get scard that a rat is gonna touch my feet

  • Is this surely good for the rats? I am little bit confused because when cleaning pet rats they ALWAYS say that it´s not good for rats to get water in their ears, they might lose their balance skill forever.

  • Stupid bitch!

  • Rat fish

  • cool did you teach them

  • Of course they have fun, because they are diving for peas, lol.

  • I absolutely HATE rats. Horrible creatures. I dont understand why anyone would want to keep one as a pet, they are vermin.

  • I'm sorry that youre an ignorant, narrow-minded idiot :(

  • Well they are. Throughout history rats have spread disease that has been so bad it has been genocidal (such as the Plague).

They cause HUGE crop damage, massive damage to your house and why scientists havent invented a higly contagious disease that only affects rats i do not know.

  • These are domesticated, pet rats. You are talking about wild rats. You wouldn't compare a french poodle too a timber wolf, would you?

    Rats are AWESOME pets.

  • Those were rats that were forced to live in filthy conditions and thus become disease carriers. They weren't much different from today's street and sewer rats.

These are domesticated "fancy" breeds and are known to be very clean. Learn to know the difference instead of being so ignorant.

  • the fleas that are on the rats carry the diseases, not the rats themselves. go stick your head up your ass so noone else needs to hear your stupid comments.

  • before you make a statement why don't you actually make sure it's true. YOU are referring to WILD RATS, these are domesticated or fancy rats, and they're actually very clean. You are also ignorant enough to make the statement that rats carried the bubonic plague. again you're wrong. it was the fleas, not the rats. And people want rats as pets because they are extremely intelligent, affectionate animals, which is more than can be said about you.

  • Yes, those would be WILD RATS,

    I repeat, WILD. RATS.

And it wasnt the rats themselves that carried the disease, it was the bugs living on their fur.

Domesticated pet rats do not carry disease, in fact they are extremely clean, intelligent and friendly animals.

Hope you've learnt something today 8)

  • Wild RATS/CAPTIVE RATS = TOMATO/tomatoe,

They are still able to contract wiels

  • Then I suppose we shouldnt keep birds because of bird flu.

And I suppose we shouldnt keep dogs because of rabis.

And I suppose we shouldnt keep ANYTHING because every goddamn THING can contract and spread disease.

Instead of being arrogant why dont you listen to people who actually have experience with pet rats. If you were to ask round all the people who have kept pet rats I think you'll find that none of the above mentioned has ever applied to them lol.

  • Wild rats/captive rats: One lives in the wild and gets exposed to all types of germs and diseases, the other lives in a domesticated, clean environment where the risk of contracting spreadful diseases is extremely lower, or there isn't a risk at all. They are NOT THE SAME.

Has it gotten through your thick skull yet?

  • They don´t have fun! :-(((

  • i dont think they are having fun

  • i see no evidence that these rats are scared or moderately sad the one thats diving looks trained and happy at being trained. kinda like it would swim underwater even if it never got rewarded but i think it was being rewarded either way ive had MANY rats and that rat was definately happy :)

  • OMFG RATS CAN SWIM!?!?!?!?!?

  • WOA how did you get them to do that???

  • Can't you tell? The rats look awfully scared, plus on top of that, even a little bit of water could make them chock and drown, or receive pneumonia.

Overall, if they're not bothered, the vid is good. I'm impressed the way how rats have improved their swimming since the prehistoric age. ;)

  • *choke, sorry. I spelt that word wrong.

  • did u like trap the rats in therer

  • reminds me of the rat from ratatouille

  • poor rats :( i get 1

  • Really amazing!!

  • LITTLE. FUZZY. SUBMARINES.

  • thats great!!! ignor the last comment, if your rat hated it i wouldnt dive underwater it would try to jump from that little platform out of the tank! rats are not that supid

  • you think thats funny?!

you stupid, that rat is searching for a way out!!! he hates it being stuck in that watertank

  • no its not, thats just supid! ive owned an uncountable amount of rats in my life and they dont under water dive if they want to get out and pluss u can see by its face that its enjoying it

  • i forgot how great rats are a swimming. that is awesome!!! great video

  • Females also make good hunters. Sometimes they love to chase bits of string around. Something I knew, but was amazed when I tried it first hand.

  • cool

  • Very cool.

  • Missing te fact he is diving for peas... rats aren't stupid..?

Oh give me a break. I know they are not stupid! I've owned them well over 10 years! I love my rats and they enjoy pea fishing without being stuck in a tank, distressed, and finding it hard to breath!

  • Oh good! Then you should be able to recognize that these rats are clearly HAPPY and having the times of their life! :D

  • I think it was a realy cute video and that one rt sure loves to dive after the peas but I think you should give them a ladder and a little platform where they can dry properly and stay if they dont want to get wet.

  • How neat! My last pair of ratties were always scared of water. I just got 2 new babies today, any advice on breaking them in to getting into water??

  • I've got three babies two days ago. =]

Try the video of oPuPo, it really works! Well you have to be patient tho.

    And wow, that rat. =']

  • haha, your rat looks like a pokemon. =D

i'm surprised at how ridiculously stupid some of the "cruelty" wolf-criers are...it seems like a majority of them just didn't watch past a few seconds into the vid.

    adorable ratties though!

  • fake must be

  • wow

  • that's so awesome

my pet rats are both afraid of water rite now but i'm trying to get them used to it (they're up to a half inch and it's always voluntary). good work!

  • This is an amazing video!

  • who's toilet is that?^^

  • the rats were obviously trained to do this, when you train them you gradually increase the water they are in [though it'd be a good idea to put that in the info otherwise some moron might just throw their rat into deep water because they say this video]. this is a common "trick" to train your rats with people, if you know what you are doing it's not abusive.

  • blady fucking cunty people on here man! the rats are quite happy in this video yeah the other one was sitting on the bar, but what that video was only 1 minuete long! maybe she was having a fucking break orrr your right and it didnt want to swim but they obv wernt left in there long! fuck sake let people just get on ! i like this video its pretty cool!

    x

  • Only one was diving at his own free will, the other was just huddled on the bar. Also the bar is submerged so they can't get completely out of the water when they want. I hope that you don't have any pet rats because anyone who agrees with this terrible treatment doesn't deserve to keep these precious animals. >:(

  • rats are the pets of the future! i hat ppl who diss them!

  • ive started giving mine baths there quite happy as long as there togeather . make sure you use baby shampoo if you try it your self

  • That's terrible! You lock them in a tank full of deep water and they have no way of getting out, one may have been diving purposefully, but the other poor one just sat as far out of the water as they poor thing could. This is terrible, and you should be ashamed. Not only do you treat your rats badly, but you have the nerve to post it online for everyone else to see. >:P

  • The rats clearly have a bar to stand on. It looks to me like they're diving of their own free will.

  • awesome!! :D

  • Your rat is smart and awesome! Like the video! Amazing!

  • ohhhh i might g o see if my rat lieks water lol

  • i thought they were not supposed to get their ears wet!

    cute!!!

  • they can get their eats wet, just not get water in them. when the dive they close their ears up, whereas if u wash them, they dont know waters comin so they don`t close them abnd so water gets in.

  • I agree, one of mine loved to swim, and she always got water in her ears. She later developed an ear infection and had a head tilt, the infection came back even worse and she couldn't tell which was was up, and we had to have her put down. Darci<3, Nov 06 - August 31 08 RIP

  • they were frigin happy jeez they were looking for treats and thats not their fu*ken real cage and plus, some rats LOVE to swim.

  • and some are FORCED to swim.

like the ones in this video!

  • I agree.

I hate the person who did this to those poor defenseless animals.

  • Apparently the rats like this dumbass. Im pretty surw they would be fucking going under water if they were forced asshole.

  • I have oPuPu's videos, I know Paul. And besides, this is cruel. He, and other rat lovers like myself, do not lock them in a tank and strand them there. Clearly you do not view his videos in the light he wants people do.

  • Apparently you're missing the fact that he's diving down for peas (And YES he is, you can see him grab them and carry them up). You're also neglecting to understand logic...a rat isn't stupid. They wouldn't be diving under water to find a way out in a state of panic, they would be leaping up at the cover. Not the mention the fact that they are calmly grooming themselves at the end is a testament to their mellow state.

  • yeah but look, there is no dry land in their tank - they are stuck in the water, and the only respite they can have is to stand on that little bar thingy... Rats can swim but are not naturally aquatic, so this is a little cruel to give them no 'out' option from the water. :(

  • That's actually untrue. The domestic rat evolved from the Norway Rat which lives along the banks of rivers and other wet areas. A LOT of domestic rats love playing in water.

  • I agree that there are certain species of rat that are highly at home in the water (i.e the riverbank rat) however, they are not AQUATIC (they do not live in water) They need rests from swimming, and eat and sleep out of the water, making their nests along the side of the riverbank. So although it is not cruel to provide rats with water and stimuli in the form of peas, I think it IS cruel to FORCE them to remain in the water with no respite. In the wild the rats would be in and out of the water.

  • I never said that rats were aquatic. Semi-aquatic, absolutely! Meaning, they are use to swimming and getting wet. Anyone who knows rats will be able to tell you that these guys are having a blast. There is no panic being displayed what so ever.

  • wow!! that's amazing, i've seen rats swim, but never dive!! they never cease to amaze me.

  • Haha, if I did that to my girls, they'd all try and scramble out, and squeak, begging to be picked up. You'd know if it was rat cruelty, those rats are fine, amazing swimmers too actually. I didn't think rats could swim THAT well.

  • That's awsome. I'd love to teach my rats to do this. I give them baths and they aren't too fond of it. They seem really afraid of getting in deep water, I'm not sure why. I'll try some new things though, this is awsome! :)

  • thats cruelty to animals

  • It does it by its own free will...

  • very cool, mainly rats dont like water if you dont introduce it early, ive had some that hate it an some that are happy enough to sit there an east/groom. i also found not at rats like the diving for peas idea as well XD

  • yeah, rats don't really "like" to swim. They'll do it if you force them. Not too nice.

  • Nice! I'd love to teach my babies how to do that :)

  • dude ur stupid, i breed rare and cool colors and since i live in texas i can keep my rats out side some times. they have there own little barn and a ramp to our swimming pool and allmost every single one of them swimmes in there with no indroducen to water so shut up

  • Why'd you reply to MY comment saying this? No relevance...really.

  • thats awesome :D

  • at the begging i though they were flying

  • You should at least give them a better or higher out of the water platform to sit on. Rats are natural born swimmers, but you haven't provided them with a way to get out or even sit up and dry themselves without almost falling over.

Maybe place this tank next to their play area with a ladder so they have a choice to go in or stay out. :)

  • Thats adorable! They look like they're having fun. I don't understand the people saying it looks like cruelty- do those rats LOOK like they're drowning? I don't think so.

  • chilll..

    Some rats like to swim.

    mine did.

at the beginning i thought it was a flying rat hah.

  • Appalling. I LOVE my rats.

  • this is AMAZING

  • I think she's going under water to find a way to get out....

    This is so horrible)=

  • I so agree.

  • some rats like to swim and dive fore food my rat jumped in my pool because there was a tiny piece of corn under water!!!!!

  • This is really cute! I can tell the rats are happy not trying to get out (they were just coming up for air) if they get peas they are always happy :)

  • I hope they kill you.

I dunno how that would work though...

  • You shouldn't even have rats!

  • why afraid there going to kill you i hope they do there cute and inicent + smart kow one would ever know

  • at 0:23 it looked like it was struggling and trying to get out!!!! :(

  • Comment removed

  • They look as if they are trying to escape to me. You should always have an available exit for your rats otherwise all the trust will go between you and your pets.

  • I hope they scratch your arms to pieces when you get them out.....

  • They look like they are trying to find a way out to me. Unhappy ratties in water that they cannot get out of. They do not like it this deep!

  • that was adorable as hell.

  • Those rats are fucking boss.

  • they're so cute at the end!

  • Amazing! I had no idea they could do that!

  • I've had many rats as a kid and three recently. I had two rats when I was 6 named Pinky and The Brain. Then I had a rat named Cat one named Elephant and one most recently named Bunny. I was never bitten by them and I always held them. They are the best pets I've ever had. I have two cats, the cats let the rats sleep on them.

  • aww wat cute feet

  • anyway how did u get them to swim. i tried but my rat just hangs onto my hand when i put her in like 2 cm. of water. i cant get her to even touch it becuase i dont want to frighten her, hurt her etc. u need to tell me!!!

  • Just do it slow, try with stairs and put toys in the water or anithing they use to play just a bit of water and put more water every time

  • that's the same with my rats. Some rats just don't like water and trying to force them into it can be a very bad idea.

  • what cute little buggers!

  • I love rats - pound for pound they're one of the most intelligent, agile and sociable animals out there. It's like nature's perfect creation.

  • yeah but the bad parts about rats are that they only live for a few years. i just dont get how people dispize them, it was fleas who caused the plauge not rats

  • unbelievable!

  • I can't believe that. It's amazing. and they're so cute at the end when you see them all wet and cleaning themselves. lol. :}

  • omg my rat loves to swim but hates getting her little head wet lol they are soooooooooo cute

  • i have a dumbo rat who steals food out of my other rats mouth

  • One question....HOW??

  • Are the ears and nose and face covered? They're not suppost to get their heads wet!

  • Tell that to the rat who's diving for peas :3

  • sooooooooooooo cute!

  • So neat that they actually are diving down to get the treats, my albino rat Esther loathed dipping her delicate light pink hands in the stuff.

  • God wet rats are cute.

  • think you mean beavers

  • I love loud, outspoken people who have no idea what they're talking about... I really do.

If you have pet rats, you'll know that these guys are crazy happy in that video. Their eyes are ready to bug out of their head even. Friggin CUTE!!! Dumbos are my favorite!

  • I have a hailrless/dumbo rat her name is Coco

  • And another thing that i know it isnt cruel, SEWER RATS.... These are not, but they are generated down from them. Sewer rats cant hold their breath underwater for about 13 minutes.

  • This video is cute, cool, AND funny! i don't even know how you made it!

  • Does my friend are some awsome rats

  • :O :O :O

  • That is just abuse. The rat is in a panic - hence the diving down and digging. She is trying to escape the tank. I have owned rats for 12 years and I run a busy rat website.

  • yes, they are diving for peas! I know a lot of people (including myself) who do the same thing with their rats. My rats love to dive for peas and get excited eveytime i let them do it. Also, if you look at the bottom of the tank where the rat is swimming you will see the peas that the rat is trying to get. So please don't post comments about how this is cruel, when you apparently don't even know what's going on.

  • Comment removed

  • You've obviously never seen opupo's rats. just because most rodents don't like to swim, doesn't mean all rats don't like to swim <.<

  • Rofl at karaokekills :D

  • coool

  • somebody posted a pic of my swimming rat taking bong hits at a frat party in SC..now he just got suspended from competition for 3 months...those uptight U.S. rat swim team fuckers need to back off my little rat...he's just 23 and was just blowing off a little steam at a f-RAT party..now I hear that his sponsor cheetos is not going to renew his sponsorship...lmao

  • hahahahahahaha soooooooo true

  • its cool, but water in their ears is bad, so i wouldnt be making a test like this. They caution even when giving a bath to keep water away from the ears.
