Its because they use a different technology standard than US.

US uses NTSC and Europe and Japan and I think pretty much everyone else uses PAL and that's why it will not read because the disc is formated differently.

We had this problem with our SSBB and wen i spoke to nintendo they told me it was because this game is a dual play disc and holds a lot of data and some of the older Wii's arent able to read these. I sent it back to nintendo free of charge and they updated it for me and it is now able to read them.

I think it has to do with the fact that the TVs (and thus wiis) in the US area (and some other adjacent countries as well) are NTSC whereas europe (and again, some nearby areas) are PAL, and Asia is SECAM (again, as well as other nearby regions). I think the game has to be "written" for NTSC in order to be readable by the machine. Much like you can't put a PAL movie into an NTSC DVD machine (or VHS machine for that matter)

yes, you will be able to play it but it will still on japaniese, but thats not a big prblem, as I already comment, I play naruto and Is great, the first times it may get a little confused but with time it gets easier, and also it involves some logic, naruto is a fighting game so i just look at SSBB that is in english and it says, first button: adventure, second fights, third team fights, and it was the same on naruto, hope it helps xD

No, actually Japan and North America use the NTSC format.

Japan just has a different coding.

You can tell by the code that's on the game disc or box;

North America: NTSC

Japan: NTSC-J
