@messi996: ahhhh here we go again...2 years later. Let me sum up. The comment you are referring to was a reply to an arrogant, ignorant comment by someone else, which was removed so my comment now lacks the original context. I don't even remember what it was about, honestly, I think my brain purged that bit of information to make room for more important things. :/
It's interesting that I left a reply to an extremely arrogant post over a year ago and suddeny everyone wants to jump my ass. Somebody's taking things entirely too seriously.
I wonder what it would be like to be in the middle of that, of course saying that you could withstand the blast without being ripped apart, it looks like it would be quite a site.
uh, once our sun runs out of energy, it's gonna collapse and that will happen. So yeah, It's going to explode. buts thats thousands or millions of years from now. I think you mean a red giant or something like that.
More or less, but point is it's not going to explode as a supernova, so it won't produce anything like the star above - just a planetary nebula. Just have a look at the "life cycle" paragraph here: en-wikipedia-org-wiki-Sun
The Sun will eventually die, but in five billion (not thousand/million) years. It will not become a supernova, as it is not massive enough. It will swell into a red giant, yes, but rather than exploding, it will simply turn into a white dwarf, about the size of the Earth.
ya, anthony sorry to break it to you, but the sun will slowly expand into a red giant to the point where the earth will be inside it. its not gonna be a big explosion like a supernova. schwab and zigo got it.
I don't know if it's true, but I just read a book about planets and they mentioned that our sun will turn in a supernova in 5 billion years, I don't know if it's true or not ;
You misunderstood stg. As others have said, the sun will never turn into a supernova. It will swell into a red giant, then shrink into a white dwarf. This depends on the initial mass of the star and the sun is simply too small for turning into a supernova.
what a trite comment. of course "we" may not see it. but in the future remains "us". therefore "we" will see it but in the future and not presently. gosh, simple minded human, too selfish to transcend the boundaries of it's own minuscule life. you are gonna pass your genes on, aren't you? might wanna hold off on that..please..don't infect this world with your ignorance.
How arrogant to assume that humans will still be here on this planet in 5 billion years. Typical human arrogance. I'm sure we will have killed ourselves off by then. "gosh, simple minded human, too selfish to transcend the boundaries of it's own minuscule life"
to true to true+the amaricans are most of the arroganse shish humans will destroy planet after lanet with their greed for money.....money is the problem
@RP08FootSoldier My criticism? Cynicism, maybe. But criticism? never. I'm not the one who said "gosh, simple minded human, too selfish to transcend the boundaries of it's own minuscule life"
I'm just saying.... 5 billion years is a long time. There are SO many things that could destroy us before then. IF we can figure out how to live with each other here on this planet, then we may have time to start planet-hopping before our sun dies or our planet gets obliterated by some other event.
@theOneAndOnlyAzlynne No offense, but YOU yourself are "human." So stop trying to sound high and mighty when in fact you are weak and pathetic like the rest of us.
@theOneAndOnlyAzlynne Yeah. Typical human arrogance sailing to the unknowns, curing diseases, going to the space, computing algorithms, how dare they?
They should just sit on a tree like the retarded monkeys they are.
@theOneAndOnlyAzlynne this is true, at the center of every galaxy is a black hole, which is why our galaxy looks like a spiral, so in atleast 1 million years time we will have been sucked into it, so we wont be here :)
@theOneAndOnlyAzlynne what humans exactly think we will be here in 5 billion years(also 5 billion? your just copying and pasting a number and have no idea what you are on about itll be too hot her in 1-2 billion), most people dont understand a stairs life cycle so how can they be arrogant about the time we have left?
It's what our brains naturally do. As humans we try to understand things we don't, and seeing shapes in clouds and, in this case a supernova, is just one of the more basic ways we do that.
@GH3Kurre lol nah, our sun is too small to be exciting, it'll certaintly well up into a red giant but it doesn't have enough mass to explode, it'll simply bleed away its outer layers
"as bright and hot like the sun"? - The sun is actually quite a small star, the bodies seen in studies such as this are so immense that our sun is but a pebble in comparison.
There is nothing more epic than a supernova. Its beautiful, and destructive. Truly an even billions of years it the making, I feel lucky to be able to watch this video, sentient life has only witnessed this a few times.
Wow, that thing must be really moving for there to be such visible changes from here.
Hmm, I'm doubting this imagery is the visible spectrum, probably one of those mixes of multiple spectrums. Now I'm going to have to go and look up its regular appearance.
Hi. Supernova is a star that have exhausted its core/internal mass due to the fussion reaction used to shine light its entire life. The inner layer/core can no longer hold the weight of the outter layer. Then the outter layer collapse and massive gravity made them compress; if the mass enough it then "exploded" into supernova. Some scientist say that if the mass passes certain limit it may even collapse into a mass that could started a singularity (black hole).
I guess this is the best footage they can get for it,but if they're going to show a loop of a supernova, they could at least give us some dialogue or even some damn music.

AznRicePicker696 3 years ago
When a star goes nova it releases several different kinds of elements, which react differently with light, which causes an array of visible colors.
EreinionEluchil 3 years ago
because of the gasses from it
franchise2030 3 years ago
Technically, it doesn't make "colors" like that. I believe these images were captured in the x-ray spectrum. During processing, they interpret the different wavelengths into colors that we can actually see. But what you're actually seeing is the gases from the outer layer of the star being heated by friction as they expand away at several thousand kilometers per second.
