I got to see Justin in Spetember, hes amazinggg! He said he wrote this song when he was going through a stressful time in his life. Just one of those times where you feel no one fully understands you. At one point he thought of a swan, how graceful it is and the sense of calm it seems to carry; he wished he could like he could be like a swan.

I think its about everyone, besides his sis, trying to "help" him become who they think he should using their methods. When that doesn't work they leave. He just wants them to stop trying to help him because they're making it worse. I think he wants them to accept him for what he is or not be there at all .

I'm sorry for commenting for the third time...but I just realized everyone else before me was right. But I think when he sings that verse "and then you walk" he continues and says "and then you walk" but it's supposed to be separate from oil in the water. i.e " And you get what you wanted all along, and then you walk....and then you walk. Oil in the water...etc. etc." Sorry for the confusion.
