Koscielny was always a good defender with huge potential, unfortunately, gunners are too impaitient and ues him as a scape goat. i will say tihs one more time, do not do the same to mertesacker. Give him a couple of months or a season, he will make up for his speed with some of the best interception and defending in the world.

I always had faith in Laurent, and he's been a rock all season. I took little notice of his high profile cock-ups last season, as I saw a lot of potential, and could see why he made such mistakes (stepping up from Ligue 2 to Premier League in two seasons can't be simple).

Playing with Mertesacker has brought out the best in him, as Per has done a good enough job of covering for him. Interested to see how he and Vermaelen pair up now, for an extended run of matches.

@indaks007 Now that Vermaelen is back, we should try moving him into the CB position, and see how it goes with Koscielny covering for Sagna's abscence at Right Back. People say it may disrupt his partnership with Mert, but I don't think it'll matter much. Santos loves to go into the attack, when we are pressing forward we'll be playing 3 at the back, they can spread out a bit to cover where Santos left space. I'm sure that's simple for them.

I love Koscielny, he has been immense for us time after time - remember how important he was in our victory against Barcelona at home last season, for instance. As good as Vermaelen is, Koscielny doesn't deserve to lose his spot just because he's back. We're going to have the best back four soon. Koscielny and Vermaelen are both beasts. And Mertesacker is world-class he just needs to adjust properly. Sagna is probably the best right-back in the league and Gibbs/ Santos are good. Sagna-Mertesacker-Koscielny-Ve­rmaelen would be the best back four in the entire world.
