HAPPY BIRTHDAY KURT COBAIN, COULD HAVE CHANGED THE MUSIC INDUSTRY EVEN MORE IF YOU WERE STILL ALIVE. WE ARE GRATEFUL WITH WHAT YOU LEFT US WITH <3 RIP
Its really cool how such great songwriters such as Neil Young can recognize Kurt Cobain's brilliance as a musician. Its also so sad that we all had to loose yet another amazing artist. Tragically addiction and depression has always seemed to have targeted the most beautiful and brilliant minds and most likely always will. But in the end the music always lives on and serves to inspire the next generation of young artists!
Thank god for youtube. Why is this stuff not played on daytime radio, do the major stations think everyone in the UK really wants to listen to Lady GaGa every minuit of the day. Sorry to sound like an old miserable bastard, but what the hell.
@TheSimonRowell Unfortunately, this kind of music brainwashing is happening almost everywhere in the world... It's up to us, to teach the kids today what real music really means (I mean, music composed and played by musicians, not entertainers ;-)
@TheSimonRowell yes the radio stations unfortunately do! good music is a thing of the past all new good music gets lapped up and turned to in to commercialism and the bands buy in to it and in turn become a product of commercialisation, its a sad world we live in where rebellion its self has become commercial, too many bands and artists nowadays get trapped by the bright lights and promises laid out in front of them that they sign away their souls and get stumped by their own ego...............
@TheSimonRowell .............we live in a world where mediocrity is portrayed as brilliance and true brilliance is ignored or classed as cult, we now live in a complex world where the expanse of knowledge and shared ideology means that people no longer care to think about things for them selves but would rather be force fed shit as excellence, unfortunately for all of us the ideals of punk. grunge, rock, metal, hippies.........
@TheSimonRowell ........in essence the alternativeness of life, music etc etc have just become another popularity for people to package and sell to us to indulge ourselves on, RIP freedom of thought, expression and ideology and most of all RIP alternative, just my thoughts anyway :)
That guitar sound coming from Neil is just so AWESOME! What is it? I know distortion but what else because its one of the coolest sounds ive ever heard
What songs or writings show that Kurt was inspired by Neil Young? I am just curious. I think Kurt was influenced by the Replacements but Kurt went out of his way to not usually mention this.
@Toasttoastingfingers OK .. but what are the other things except for "rust never sleeps" quote. Most of my remark was as a Mats fan I thought Kurt owed more to them than the other bands he would mention. When Paul Westerberg mentioned his influenced he fuckin named them all and you felt he was honest. This is not some major criticism of Kurt .. I just really only like 3 or 4 songs by Nirvana.
I don't think there are any as obvious ties between Kurt and Neil, but really, Neil's way of playing can sometimes be recognized in Nirvana's body of work. Not to mention the sound! Neil had the grunge sound before there were grunge. A lot of bands in the 90's were inspired by him (noteably Pearl Jam) and I'm pretty sure Nirvana were too
@Toasttoastingfingers OK that sounds like a fair assessment. This video seems a little slick and anti-Neil in that I doubt that Neil had an input into the video content..
i like this video even though it is so rough and ragged and stark, shitty lighting. what it does well is show the pain in all these guys as they process Cobain's death, i love how neil touches the other singers arm, how the one man turns toward the camera after the song and then turns away because he doesn't want his face to be seen with emotion and i love! the other video i saw of this where the drummer sighs at the end before fade to black..it says it all
i like this video even though it is so rough and ragged and stark, shitty lighting.( It reminds me of Starry nite painting) what it does well is show the pain in all these guys as they process Cobain's death, i love how neil touches the other singers arm, how the one man turns toward the camera after the song and then turns away because he doesn't want his face to be seen with emotion and i love! the other video i saw of this where the drummer sighs at the end before fade to black..it says it all
I'm staring at the black screen that says, "imbedding disabled by request" rather than watching the video. Good song. But from what I'm seeing its a shitty video.
@cobain0420 Just listen to this. Then listen to Young's other work - can you tell how this is written for Kurt? This is a song honoring him and his music, just the look and sound is giving it away. Look up the lyrics, even. It's a blatant tribute.
I like the music more than the lyrics. "But after he did it that night / she ran up phone bills" . Come on Neil you can do better. And now someone will tell me how "ran up phone bills" is Courtney calling everyone about Kurt because he had so many friends and admirers ... duh I think I get that. Yeah I still remember the video of Kurt stabbing viciously and hurting an unruly non-threatening fan in the audience. Yeah I know Kurt was troubled. But it looked cruel.
@idiot139 Revenge is the secret to Kurt. Please find that poor injured guy .. he got out of the hospital in 2010 and can sue Kurt's estate plus if he acts now .. a free ice-crusher. Young and Old Esq.. law firm of the rock stars.
Good song about a guy who wrote 2 great songs (Nevermind, Come as You Are) and did one great cover (Bowie's the man who sold the world). Neil has done 100 great songs before he was 30 .. this guy never sleeps
@RedDeville1989 Ha thanks.. OK never-mind. Smells Like Teen Spirit about a boy who write a few good songs but was a better guitarist & singer than songwriter & charming and smelly . And there is a video on YT that shows Kurt stuck his guitar into the face of an obnoxious fan, I suppose, and it looks deliberate and I were that guy I would have sued Kurt and if I remember the guy was bloodied and Kurt came pretty close to his eyes with his guitar which Kurt finally found better use for...
@RebelThoughts You only have Nirvana on your site so your word means squat you twat. See how I stole from you .. that's due to Kurt, our hero. Hey I can express my opinion. And ass-h, I said 3 great songs not "good" songs. I am sure many of there songs are listenable but on when I hear 5 songs from a record and 2 are great and 3 are OK, I somethings think there may not be anymore gems... But Kurt was a better songwriter than Eddie. Happy now? Yeah you're on Lithium.
@bobbyboucher001 OK little bobby "bouthcer" of the language. Nice vocab, terrible site you have. Go take a flying fuck at donuts off a cliff into a speeding train and fold your ego five ways and put it where the moon don't shine. And sissy-boy, lol is for women, men write ha.
@11xzxzxz Ok big boy.... Don't know why u so offended, you're arguing about music styles....dumb a-s-s, Oh btw, you're mom would say hello, but her mouth is kinda full right now....
To say ' LOL' is something only 'sissy-boys' use ....
Well, go and say that to Ross (he often uses LOL and he sure ain't no 'sissy')
Aah, I see, you wouldn't tell him what you really think ... wonder why .. could it be that you're a bit of a sissy...? (oh, take no offence in what I say .. lol)
@123ThisIsMe Yeah I should not have written lol was for women because it was not true. But didn't it occur to you I was just being absurd and toying with the Butcher of Douche Bagville? No need to answer ..
@11xzxzxz Nevermind is not a song. And if you like the very produced sound of come as you are then why are you listening to Neil young? Nirvana had plenty of great songs.
@h879xx OK smells like I teen spirit. I love garage bands, indies, alternative, and pop and the "produced sounds". Check out my site. I just didn't like much of Nirvana, that's all. Just as the Foo Fighters only have one great tune and maybe one good tune on each records and nothing else much good , imo. Neil is my all time favorite and The Replacements when they got more produced but still raw ..I guess I am middle of the road on the raw-produced continuum but I can like a lot of stuff.
There's a reason no one covers this song, it's almost imposssible to play , the power chords are easy enough but good luck after that lol. Great song.
so what if that was the last cd in his cd player? that doesnt make them the band he most respected. pixies and melvins. not rem.kurt himself couldnt meet black francis because he RESPECTED HIM SO MUCH. not tryin to be a dick.just fact.
R.I.P Kurt Cobain. my #1 inspiration in music. without Kurt i would have never gotten into rock punk or metal or even picked up a guitar. thank you Kurt for being a major inspiration. and thank you Neil for being so bright. i love playing this song. every time i play it i feel this chill down my spine especially the second riff it has this beuatiful feeling to it. sorry if i spelled that wrong.

If in my life I could make somthing half as good as Sleeps With Angels or Harvest it won't have been a waste of time.

Amongst a few other things Kurt quoted Neil in his suicide letter, which indicates he had at least heard some of Neils music and appreciated it.
