It doesn't get any better than this - well, actually it does - but then again do you really want it to - this band are so f*#%ing good, it's not worth listening to any other music.
The way I first heard this was sometime in the 90s, on a mixtape dedicated to a stranger, a found item in a St Vincents charity shop in Marrickville, complete with personal note and handmade cover.
Somehow this made it even more of a discovery.
I always wondered about the mysterious giver & recipient, & why such an intimate tape emerged in a jumble shop.
Lyrics!
//I couldn't live in those peopled places. They might get to know my actions.//
If you ever have to speak in public.....someone IS always on your tracks. So, imagine everyone naked, then imagine you are saying this instead....giggle manically and then say whatever you were going to say! No one is as scary as yourself. That is why this is one of the funniest songs of all time!
@SomethingRifferent Erm, I know Mark. e Smith wrote those stupendous lyrics, many good years ago, not someone pro porting to be somethinindifferent.cause your not mate.
@SomethingRifferent ERH, those lyrics are by the consumate M.E.S himself, not someone going by the poxy name of somethingdifferent, which you obviously ant.Who do you think you are?The man himself?. Wankfest!
What still gets me is Bramah's arrangement, with that wonderful skidding guitar never threatening to overpower the piece (could've toned down Karl's drums, mind). For me it's the ultimate Fall-as-group song.
Don't get me wrong, I love 'em too, and they're as unique as everything else in that glorious racket, I'd just tweak the mix a bit. But no sane person could doubt for a moment that it's easily the greatest LP ever, so it must have something going for it.
Oh, me too - exhilarating, life-affirming stuff, and surely the greatest LP opener of all time - hearing it on Peel blew me away even after Repetition and New Thing. And it still does.

@davepx hell no nigga, the drums on the witch trials are my favourite of any fall album, excluding the b-side o! brother 12 inch.

@davepx i love how it's mixed, it tears apart my speakers and annoys neighbours, teaching those young asian chavs some culture.

@davepx An absolute masterpiece, though I agree about the drums
