By the way, slide guitar takes no basics. Bo diddly started on the "diddly bow" or a one stringed instrument often made from a broomstick or wood plank with a piece of bailing wire. Its said that bb king and jimi hendrix also started on a one string instrument. It explains why BB plays so many one string solos. To each his own. Jimmy page started on violin, etc. etc. The greats learn regardless of method. she has already written her first song, she can both play chords and slide now a bit
Well you see. Your progression through guitar will entirely depend on what you play first, then you add to that. I have noticed that whatever a pro guitarist started on is exactly what they lean on later. Thanks for your idea, but as far as im concerned learning in an open tuning is extremely easy compared to learning chord fingerings. Even more so when the child has very little finger strength. You have been playing for a year, but not slide. If you slid more you would see its very easy.

i wouldnt start them on a slide guitar this quick
something as complicated as a slide takes the basics of blues and things like that
ive been playing for only about a year and slide guitar to me is still very hard
me myself suggest starting kids with the very basics like 12 bar blues in all keys, then to licks, then to slide and so on
