This is an area that the non-profits could be of great benefit, those that apply can be investigated for crimes in their host countries, prior to entry. Amnesty, is dangerous.
They should simply be deported. I have no problem with them trying to "feed their family" or "find a new life". I have a problem with the methods they use to try and attain that goal. My parents are legal immigrants. They came on student visas, attained permanent residency, and became naturalized citizens. No, they were not rich. The fact that employers hiring illegals can charge less and undermine those who abide by the law and hire only Americans doesn't seem like it would help the economy very much. For starters, less money spent means less money adding to the GDP. Secondly, it can put some small, law-abiding businesses out of business if they cannot get enough customers.

Impossible? The US accepts more LEGAL immigrants from Mexico than any other country in the world. Legal Mexican immigrants account for 1/5 of all legal immigrants living in the US.
Breaking the law is noble? I think it'd be more noble of them to deal with the problems of their home countries, instead of fleeing to the US, plopping out anchor babies, and claiming entitlements under the name of a legal dependent.

and I think trying to become a better person, risking your life to have a home is noble, because they could stay here, become criminals and live hapily ever after, but they choose the dangerous, noble way, which I believe deserves respect.

The fact that employers hiring illegals can charge less and undermine those who abide by the law and hire only Americans doesn't seem like it would help the economy very much. For starters, less money spent means less money adding to the GDP. Secondly, it can put some small, law-abiding businesses out of business if they cannot get enough customers.
They have balls to risk their lives, but I still don't think illegal entry into any country is even remotely noble.

@southamptonef I can't imagine this country without various those nationalities. I can imagine this country without illegals though. Believe it or not, Americans still work in the construction. We can simply bring in foreign workers to work fields, pay them, and send them back home. Who worked in fast food restaurants or as busboys in restaurants before illegals? High schoolers and college students. I have no doubt that they'd work those jobs again if they could.

@southamptonef When illegals have children in the US, the children are granted birthright citizenship. Illegals CAN collect government entitlements in the name of the legal dependents. Also, anchor babies and illegals cost tens of billions to educate. 30% of all inmates are foreigners too. Guess who pays for all this?
Because illegals can't afford health insurance for obvious reasons, that requires Americans to pay higher prices for medical care so that hospitals can recoup their losses too.

They do not take American jobs, especially during a time of recession with high unemployment rates. They don't commit crimes. They do not murder Americans. They do not smuggle drugs. (Yes, I know illegals aren't ALL criminals, but even one is too many). Americans can shoot birds if they become a nuisance.

Illegals do work in restaurants and hotels as well as in the fields, landscaping, and construction. Look it up, whenever illegals are fired or deported from establishments such as restaurants and hotels, Americans line up to get those jobs.

The illegals who climb through the windows or dig under the floorboards could very well be burglars, murderers, or rapists anyway. @Cosmo1093 The only positive in this is they have revealed two things:1. We have no security on our borders, and 2.We have an administration who refuses to properly secure the border. While there is a flood of those representing the drug cartels and human traffickers crossing the border, there is also those who are Middle East aliens as well. All it takes is an ultralight to cross with a small nuke. They cross with 300-500lbs of drugs. A 60lbs. nuke would be no problem.

@JohnLloydScharf Eh, I'd say we do have (some) security on the border, but even border patrol agents believe politics is interfering with them doing their job. I have to admit that this administration is doing more than the previous one, but it still isn't much of anything.
Just this summer, there were warnings of Somali terrorists trying to come into the US illegally through the US-Mexico border. Whether or not they got in, we don't know. That kinda seems like it could be a problem....

The fact is that while promising to put the national guard on the border, less than 2,000, he has put less than 500 there. Worse yet, it has claimed the AZ law is wrong. ICE can require people have ID, yet they do not want AZ LE to report those who are obviously aliens? Please!

I think the harm outweighs the benefits, especially in this economic situation, and considering the high American unemployment rate.
Umm.. Hate to break it to you, but illegal immigrants are criminals in every state, according to federal law.. I honestly think Arizona's actions were right.

@southamptonef Arizona created no new law against illegals, they simply created a law that allows police officers to enforce existing federal law, which the federal government is failing to enforce. Illegals cannot get drivers licenses in most states, correct? So if an illegal is pulled over for something like speeding, what is bad about allowing an officer to check citizenship? All they have to produce is a driver's license, and they're in the clear. Driving without a license is illegal anyway.

Americans will NEVER accept another amnesty. The US allows a million legal immigrants annually, more than any nation on earth. The US imports 1.5 million foreign workers thru various visa programs. Add another million illegal aliens and the immigration situation becomes a nightmare. Illegal immigration costs the US more than 350 BILLION annually. This is an unfair burden on our citizens that can't be sustained. Mexico needs to take care of its own damn people. The free ride is over! GO HOME!

@southamptonef Let's get the facts straight. The Panama Canal wouldn't even exist without the US. Pnama wouldn't even exist. It was part of Colombia, the US urged and backed their independence to build the canal. As for WWI and WWII, I'm not sure what you are talking about. In WWI, the US was only in it the last year of the war. During WWII, the US saved Europe's and Asia's ass. Not only paying for most of the weapons, but rebuilding Europe under the Marshall plan. As for Mexico, they sold it!

The US claimed the Rio Grande as its southern border, Mexico claimed it was farther north at the Nueces River. At the time, the territory formerly belonging to Mexico held 1% of Mexico's population, and had only belong to Mexico for 35 years. After Mexico was defeated, that land was purchased for 15 million.

Yes the border dispute because Texas finished in Nueces river, but they wanted the border with the Bravo River, which gave the Us power over many territories outside of Texas.
Texas had been populated by illegal US imigrants, also legal, until there were more US people than mexican. I agree with texas uniting with the US, that is what people wanted, but I don't agree the unfairness with which the war started, when american soldiers entered the territory and when they were killed by mexicans

@southamptonef Today's problems between the US and Mexico are just as serious. A recent poll shows 60% of Mexicans want to immigrate to the US. The Mexican economy and violence of the drug cartels are behind these feelings. The fact is the US can't absorb another 60 million Mexican citizens without bankrupting our nation. The Mexican people need to retake Mexico from the current corrupt government. Mexico isn't a poor nation, only poorly governed.

And when they do, the U.S. only gives out 5,000 work visas a year to "unskilled laborers." There are an estimated 12 million undocumented people in this country (not just Mexican). The system is broken and needs fixing.

We need employers of illegals, even the homeowners who hire day laborers to be prosecuted.
We need to change birth certificates to state the nationality of the parents,their documents and we need documents to be verified.
We need laws strictly defining US citizen, dual citizen, and natural born citizen.
We need REAL-ID.
We need tough enforcement of the laws.
