I remember hearing this song on the radio when I was a kid. I just recently learned that this is a Supremes record. Nice sound from a fun decade (even for a kid).
always liked this song. even without Diana or Jean no longer singing lead it showed what the Supremes could do with the right song. course am a man stuck in the 70's (music-wise) but it's still a terrific classic to shake what my mama gave me. thanks for the extended version. mucho good!!!
we must have been on the same circuit TWTR4EVER ...I spent many long nights at 12 West, The Monster, The Ice Place, Flamingo....When I was trying to be a pro photographer I took photos of Filipe and Randy of the Village People.......so long ago !
I was there too! "Barefoot Boy", "Candy Store", "Ice Palace", "Monster", "Better Days"(where they played the hell out of this song) and the original "Limelight" on Seventh Avenue South in the village. "Limelight" used to play "Shine On Me" and "Bad Weather" too. That is where I first heard "Bad Weather".
My favorite of all the Supreme songs....I would endlessly remix it at home on my turntables. First heard it at the Anvil in NYC...lots of fun there dancing the night away.... !
I also dance to this song many times at Flamingo, The Ice Palace Fire Island Cherry Grove & The Sandpiper Fire Island Pines, 12 West, Barefoot Boy and Hollywood and yes The Anvil with Felipe Rosas pre The Village People doing his dance act!
Cindy is on the entire album. They didn't remove her vocals. All they did was add Susaye's lead vocals to "I'm Gonna Let My Heart Do The Walking" and "High Energy."
mary, scherrie, susaye & cindy all say that cindy was on the original cut. whether she was overdubbed by susaye, or taken off completely does not change the fact that cindy recorded the "high energy" album. she did NOT record any leads from this album while in the group - those were done as demos in the '80's, when she worked in suzanne depasse's office. cindy left the group in 1976, not 1975...
Thank you for this club mix. I have been dancing my heart out not mention my feet as well. I just want to say all the ladies whoever sang in the group call the SUPREMES were beautiful and talented. It is a shame that Berry did not give them the same support as Diana. These ladies could sing. P.S. Mary Wilson you are always Supremes in my book and the name alive.
Cindy is on this album, in fact I have even heard versions of a few of the songs with Cindy having a shot at the lead vocals...It's not disrespectful to say that she was on this album and then other vocals, such as Susaye's were added. They are all extremely talented women. That's why they were Supremes...
ONCE AGAIN I am a recording engineer and cindy is not on this album please stop challeging me I am also a patented record collector look at the videos for theses cuts you will see no cindy duhh stop the madness
Cindy is indeed present. I read that Scherrie did the original lead on "High Energy" while Cindy was there. After Cindy left, susaye's voice was added. That album, according to Mary, was completed by the time she joined (big mistake). I would love to hear Scherrie's rendition of "High Energy".
The other interesting aspect of these sessions is that I also distinctly hear Scherrie on soprano on "I Dont Want To Lose You". Listen carefully. It's her. Cindy and Scherrie often switched soprano parts just like Cindy did while Jean was there.
@singlos your wrong as well no cindy on this cut worked for Andre Harrell at motown for biv 10 and puff daddy for uptown records and bad boy you guys dont know what your talking about, I also work at universal division for motown a scout for many labels so lets put this to rest and stop guessing I go to the vaults all the time and hear what I want and also ask the engineers of the era the needed questions such as who sung the lead and so forth !!!!!!!
I remember feverishly partying to this song. This line-up of supremes kept the legacy alive during this period HOT HOT HOT SONG. Thanks Mary, Scherrie and Susaye(what a voice susaye you have)
The heading for browsing is kinda misleading saying that it's the "Disco Version" implying it may be the offical "Extended Version". IMO "disco versions" are usually the "long" or "extended version" used in discotheques/clubs. As we click on this and read the description we realise that it is the "re-edit". Assuming that you "mixed" and "Edited" this, I think that your work was outstanding. I enjoyed this as much if not more than the single version.
Cindy is on this cut. Susaye was added later. If I'm not mistaken, Cindy is on all but one cut, (I Don't Want Lose You) because something happened to the backing vocals and it had to be re-recorded.
TOM TOM you rock I have been in the club and dj scene for years and it was so so refreshing to hear this awesoone classic remix that I almost forgot about thanks
It was recently claimed that this was just me passing off the Danny Krivit version. THIS IS NOT TRUE. Thanks!

When Diana and Jean left, the group totally lost its distinctive sounds, hence the demise into disco muzak blandness and record charting failure

You couldn't find a classier act than these songbirds here in late 76 early 77. They could all sing and dance quite well.
