THANK YOU VERY MUCH for this video, I need one of these for exactly the same thing except with a Honda block and wasn't sure if it would work without damaging the studs, you are the only person i have found showing how it works. I take back all the bad things I said about Australia, lol. Nice work mate!
If you've got the motor down that far you would be foolish not to do a complete rebuild, which would include decking the block, just to clean up the surface if nothing else, and that would certainly require pulling the studs. I would still use heat though to soften the OE thread locking compound to reduce the chance of a stud snapping on you. It's a terrible feeling when that happens!
This tool is essentially a double nutting technique. SRT Manufacturing makes a stud remover that uses an internal cam with jaws that lock onto the stud. It is a one step process where you simply slide the tool down onto the stud, turn counter clockwise, and bingo, stud removed. Much faster and less work. google "studpuller"

ARP's?
I have some larger diameter ones in a motor being dyno'd in the US now. Old imperial 9/16ths. Should help with headlift / headgasket issues.

Is this the motor from your car? Not too many 944 turbos in Australia. Where are you?

@67697072
He took it out just to show us how....
Normally you'd I'd guess you'd remove them because of ruined threading or something.

@67697072 I was taking them out to be replaced with some aftermarket, stronger items.

Why do it simple if we can complicate it to death :D

good video, I really don't think it helps any better than a double nut, it's definitely not faster.
