I really loved John Pertwee as the Doctor. I remember BBC 2 showed "The Silurians" in the 90's at some point and it was the first time I'd ever properly watched Dr Who and the only time I watched the show every week except for when they brought it back with Christopher Eccleston. I generally prefer it when the Doctor is a bit more serious and gruff rather than overly wacky in the Tennant/Baker/Smith mould
@dezzlok; you're right, they're very good for the time, and miles better than the earlier ones more commonly associated with Pertwee's era. Shame they only used them for one series.
I always wondered why they chose that somewhat old-fashioned-style logo for Baker's era. I didn't realise at the time that it was introduced for Pertwee's final season- makes more sense in that context, as his Doctor had a more old-fashioned, retro style.
The first Doctor Who movie is based on the season one story called "The Daleks" the second movie is based on the second season story, "The Dalek Invasion of Earth", they were both fairly close to the original stories.
The Tom Baker and Jon Pertwee intros are the BEST intros for Doctor... the 1st intros to be broadcast in color, and the 1st intros to introduce the legendary Doctor Who tardis and hyperspace tunnel... the true stables of Doctor Who. The music is the same for both Doctors and is so KICKASS. lol
@motherfan55 Unless you count Peter Cushing's Doctor from the two Doctor Who movies he made in the mid 1960s. Too bad they never though of casting Peter Cushing as the doctor for television.
@OlegKostoglatov Those films are non-canon and are based on Hartnell stories. Cushing's character was called "Dr. Who", Susan was just a child, they were human and TARDIS (not "the TARDIS") was their invention.
@OlegKostoglatov I'm aware of what they were based on, but what about An Unearthy Child where the Doctor mentions "being cut off from our own planet"?
I was a kid when Tom Baker was the guy in my living room TV and John Pertwee was scaring the shit outa me as Worzel Gummidge. They're both my favorite doctors but I've seen some footage from Troughton and I think he set the tone for what the doc ultimately became. Haven't seen Hartnell's doc but I hear there was a Rich Hurdnall before him? Is that true? bUt was that on tv or a pilot or what?
@Tabish29 Yes and no. By the time the BBC were making their 1983 'The Five Doctors' 20th anniversary, Will Hartnell has left us, so Richard Hurndall Expertly stood in for the role of the first Doctor. Back in 1963-67, William Hartnell had the role of the doctor. Therefore, to most people, he was the original.
@BannedFromThisSite I have the five doctors dvd 2 ..It has Nothing as good which we have now!!! You think about how it is great but the newer gets it's ` even better sex nar just messing wiht you
This is my favourite Dr. Who intro, with Tom Baker's first intro that lasted all those years coming in 2nd. I just liked what they did with Jon's picture in his vortex intro over Tom's half photo.
sadly today's doctor simply ISN'T doctor who. If you can computer generate it, generate it, seems to be the moto! not spooky at all. Just another bunch of seamless rubbish for modern times.
Ive got to agree with Nedmurgon there... Toms intro wasent as good as Jons starfield intro.. I think the BBC graphics dept. back then spent all there time with the opening Police Box silloette, and why not photo all of Tom so he "moves into the time tunnel in the same way as Jon did?"Perhaps one of the clever boffins today at home could do such a version now at home on there PC?? The challenge has been set.. Do a Tom like a Jon intro from 74..
I love Jon, he surely was the greatest Doctor, but Tom Baker was good to, along with David, Chris wasn't too bad but i'm not going to comment on my disappointments of the other docotors lol
this was my absolute favourite title sequence. Although Tom Baker's later sequence is similar, it lacks the wonderful star field and also, Tom's six year version always looks terribly washed-out with very little colour. One could almost argue it was black and white compared with the vividness of this version here. Actually this copy doesn't capture the colourfulness of a better print
My two favourite titles sequences both come from the Jon Petwee era, this has to be the best of all the tunnel sequences because there's so much change in it. I've always loved the first few seconds of this title sequence, pity it was dropped for Tom Baker's boring title sequence.
one of my favorites. R.I.P Mr Pertwee. please feel free to check out my christopher eccleston doctor who intro i replaced the scrolling text with an image of chris fading in, i think it gives it more of a classic who feel. its on my channel feel free to comment.
I do like this title sequence its just that sometimes i think its a bit overdone mainly due to the changing colours of the background but its still a great sequence.
DoctorWho24496, stop being a troll and enjoy it while you can, because I heard a rumor that Youtube in the near future isn't going to be free forever and their going to charge it members pretty soon for a monthly fee and extra if you are a direction or a speical company that show videos on here for ad's.

William Hartnel was the first doctor. Whoever said Rich Hurdnall was the Doctor before him is either a liar or living under a rock.
