  • I'm going to sing this for voice lessons. It might be terrible, but I'm going to try! :D

  • 25 people just turned into scarecrows

  • FIYEROOOO FIYEROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • idina and kristen are SO GOOD

    poor fiyero:(

  • Well, I don't know much about for Lea or Idina besides the fact that I wish I could sing half as good as either of them...

  • Is it possible for anyone to like both Lea and Idina? Lea has been on Broadway as well. She's amazing, as is Idina. Haters be hating but I love them both.

  • Defiantly my favorite song from Wicked. So much emotion, so amazing,

  • Heavens! That last note gave me the chills! Idina is amazing!

  • This song is so underrated. I don't care who's singing it. It's just so underrated.

  • love love this song!!

  • this musical is relatable to me in so many ways its creepy

i love how Idina sings this

  • NOOOOO! Elphie's gone to the dark side!

  • @kitkatdetective well, we DO have cookies..... ;)

  • @Emmycutie96 But we lied about those remember ?

  • @gagagirl89 Why do you hate Lea?!?!?

  • @katieromanovich11 Because her voice doesn't fit it at all. She did good in Spring Awakening, but her voice just isn't Elphaba. Also, since Glee she's kinda gotten snotty.

  • Glee is my absolutely FAVORITE show in the entire world. And yet...If Lea Michele got the role of Elphaba, I would probably protest. I just...I saw Wicked live a couple days ago, and even though it wasn't the original cast, Lea Michele STIll couldn't touch any of the leads.

  • Even just the first note of this song gives me chills!! I LOVE Idina Menzel!! <33

  • 10 bucks says that if the love of my life got in a fight, I'd be watching from the corner, chanting quietly "Eleke nahmen nahmen ah tum ah tum eleke nahmen" over and over again lol.

  • saw it last night in Apollo Victoria and when she sang this song i was literally awestruck with the pure rawness of the emotion! Im still amazed! :D

  • @georgieelou I saw it yesterday too in London!!! :D

    Rachel Tucker blew. me. away.

Personally, I prefer her performance of this song to Idina Menzel's because she put SO much more emotion into it!

  • if i get 50 likes,... to audition for my schools musical with this song, done good or bad i will do it. :D

  • saw it 2 days ago the actor who sang it was sooooooooooooooooooooo much better you could literally feel the emotion. This one is terrible im literally disgusted

  • this is my favorite track out of all of them honestly....

  • Saw this on wednesday, the current actress up at the dominion can sing her socks off! I was stunned and hollering at the end of this!! Brilliant song

  • Listen To This Non-Stop EveryDay

  • i hear you elphaba...

  • my favorite wicked song

  • Why is a spam message in the top rated comments?

  • im thinking about singing this for my talent show and some of my friends dont know that i can sing like idina and i would love to see the look on their faces as long as my teachers they dont know i sing :D i cant wait wish me luck :D

  • @Shabang314 Break a leg! (good luck)

  • @PyroGothNerd thanks :D im so excited :D

  • I normally despise musicals with a passion, but this one was amazing when I saw it, and this song is the best.

  • Im getting chills, oh my god.

  • Awsome!!

  • Me, My sister and my best friend can never sing this song because when we do we get really into it and all emotional and look like idiots haha

  • who sings this??

  • @sterre4ever Elphaba. after fiero was caught by the guards.

  • @Jazz386a2 ow, yes, but i mean what is Elphaba's real name (so sorry for my bad english)

  • @sterre4ever I think that's Idina Menzel :)

  • @octopus170 oke, thanks!!

  • @sterre4ever

The charechter is call Elphaba, the actor is Idina Menzel

  • IDINA IS AMAZING #Fanzel4Life <3 <3 <3

  • LOVE this. Ugh I wish I WAS Idina... or at least had her terrific voice. or something idk

  • My goodness... I wish I could sing this well.

  • I was singing along with her and I was like," DANG! I SOUND GOOOODDDDD!!!"

But then I started to listen to her. :/

  • the spell she recites sounds like hebrew to me! lol

  • saw this 2 years ago in the west end. i was on the first row on the balcony in the circle...and i felt like crying because my dream was right infront of my down of the stage. but if i leap for it i would fall to my death..then one of my GCSE performing arts teachers gave me a saying "to get from the balcony to the stage, take the leap, and dont be afraid of falling"....now i am studing A Level Peforming Arts in college and my dreams are slowly coming true :DD

  • I mean, what sort of person takes a dead woman's shoes? xD

  • @DudeyTheFrog I laughed so hard when she said that!

  • @DudeyTheFrog Must have been raised in a barn!

  • @DudeyTheFrog It was the only think left of her sister.

  • @TRIXHOMO *thing

  • I've heard that Lea Michele might be playing Elphaba in Wicked as a movie...I think I would have to see if she could do this song with as much passion and strength as Idina before I would see it...

  • @Lizi1243 if they do make the movie, I think they should use the original cast of Wicked instead of other actors/actresses.

  • @kygao98 They can't, the original cast is too old.

  • @Lizi1243 I would rather die than see her play Elphaba. Haters can hate all they like, I loathe Lea Michelle with all of my being.

  • @GaGaGirl89 Yes.

  • @GaGaGirl89 why? Give me 3 good reasons why she's a bad person/artist!

She sang 'Defying Gravity' VERY well. Barbra Streisand said she thought she was amazing, and loved what she was doing. Idina Menzel herself went on the show and sang with her!

I don't watch Glee, I'm not much of a fan, but there's no denying Lea Michelle is an incredible talent and has brilliant stage presence!

  • @FireflyFanatic3 I'm not saying in any way that she's a bad person, don't put words in my mouth. I just loathe the way she acts/holds herself. I cannot stand arrogance or self-importance, both of which she, in everything I've seen her in, seems to possess in bucket-loads. I won't say she doesn't have a good voice, she just always seems very nasal to me. And lastly I dislike how wide she opens her mouth while singing. I know it's proper technique but for me she takes it too far.

  • @GaGaGirl89 okay fair enough, but hating how she holds herself and how wide she opens her mouth isn't really much of a reason to hate her and say you'd rather die that see her play Elphaba

Also - she's not arrogant or really self-important. She's, from what I've seen, very lovely and genuine. She is extremely determined, but how is that bad thing? She sets her mind on a goal and just goes at it until she gets there. Just because of that she will succeed at more things that most.

  • @FireflyFanatic3 As I say, these are all personal opinions. I will admit that I've only seen her as Rachel Berry, and never as herself, and all I mean from my comments are that, based on her acting in Glee, I firmly believe that were she to play Elphaba she would mess it up horribly. Perhaps I did come across as a little dramatic with my first comment but all I mean is that Elphaba is very dear to me as a character and I want to see her played by the right person.

  • @GaGaGirl89 yeah that's true, but she was in a stage production called 'Spring Awakening', haven't seen much of it myself, but I heard it was very good :)

okay, fair enough, I get what you're saying, but I'd imagine with Wicked being such a loved production, were they to make a film, they'd be very careful in their casting.

  • @GaGaGirl89 Judging you....

  • @GaGaGirl89 I agree if she played Elphie, I would shoot somebody

  • @GaGaGirl89 No you don't. Sure, you can dislike someone, but you can't hate someone you don't even know.

  • @GaGaGirl89 Unadulterated loathing?

  • @GaGaGirl89 You were talking about earlier about her arrogance but you DO realize that's her character? That's who she's playing.. It doesn't make her like that.. I'm kinda in love with Lea and Idina. I'm sorry if I jumped, but I just thought I'd point it out that the character Rachel is actually supposed to be an arrogant bitch so.. xD

  • Sang this for an audition... I cannot hold a candle to her voice

  • goosebumps!!<3!

  • idina is pretty good on this song, but eden espinosa kills the performance with her christina aguilara voice (before christina messed up(well, thats how other ppl thinks of christina)). well, lets just say idina vs. eden. who would u think whos better. anyways this song with idina is still a million likes to me :D

(please dont dislike this comment becuz i sed who is better)

  • every time i hear this i get chills EVERYWHERE! this song is so amazing...it definitely is the best song in the whole musical

  • I love the way that she screams Fieraaaa-oo! It was so passionate

  • About 50 seconds in there's a quiet beeping in the song, every time it plays I feel like my microwave is going off.

  • My favorite song from Wicked. <3

  • Goosebumps. EVERY TIME.

  • @xxilovelgandtsxx Agreed

  • I fell in love with Wicked starting from this song... *_____*

  • why can't music today use those instruments

  • I love Elpheba and Fiyero, their love is so pure <3

  • I loved the end of Wicked. :)

  • when they took him away on that post, i burst out in tears and my heart literally broke!! and then when this song began, the tears just WOULD NOT STOP!

  • @xxSugarzxx How did you react when he popped up as the Scarecrow?

  • @EvilgidgitReturns BAAAAH!!

  • @xxSugarzxx I see.

  • she whent througe all of this shit just to be brouht down by a taky little farm girl wow she got screwed

  • she whent througe all of this shit just to be brouht down day a taky little farm girl wow she got screwed

  • @743magma Watch the musical o r read the book cause you are in for an awesome ending that you didn't see coming

  • @murphs4eva i have read the book and will see the musical i know she got screwed

  • @743magma the musical is different from the book...

  • This song is the story of my life.

  • DO NOT READ THIS IF YOUR GOING TO READ THE BOOK CUZ IT SORTA GIVES IT AWAY!! I don't get why you all hate Dorothy, I mean in the book Wicked It was an accident. Elphaba's cloak caught on fire and Dorothy tried to put it out. Another thing Dorothy didn't go to the Elphaba to kill her, she wanted to know if the witch would ever forgive her for killing her sister. Just saying.

  • @TwistedEveryway1

:/ Yeah but when you read Son of a Witch (have you read that) even though your right, it was an accident, all that little giddy pathetic sweetness was basically just as it says in the book "Her next good deed." it wasn't genuine. Not that she's a COMPLETE SPOILED BRAT but...IDK she ANNOYS me. (BOOK SPOILER THINGY) sooooooooo...I hate her... AND THE GALE FORCE AND MADAME MORRIBLE. I CRIED SOOOOO HARD WHEN Fiyero died TT_TT I figure explaining who else I hate was needed. :3

  • @MerryFabalaFaeWaka yeah I guess I can understand that I don't have the big of a deal with her soo watevs but I Love this song!! haha

  • @TwistedEveryway12 the part with the fire was that her broom caught fire and that fell on her skirt and dorothy grabbed a bucket of water and ...

  • @strudllekitte339 its not like that, in the wizard of oz elphaba/the wicked witch of the west lit the scarecrows arm on fire. Dorothy grabbed a bucket of water to put out the fire and you know the rest...

  • @TwistedEveryway12 My Teacher says that the book is horriable because elphaba gets beeten and a whole lot of other stuff. sry i cnt spell.

  • @TwistedEveryway12 why exactly did elphaba have an open bucket of water in that version? wouldn't that be like you or i keeping an open bucket of, like, concentrated hydroxide? or LAVA?

  • @LightCurtains I just finished that part in the book, and it was a bucket for collecting rainwater, she didn't just have a random bucket of water.

  • When I saw her sing this song it took so much power over me, wow. And i hate dorothy

  • Idina was decent in RENT!! l wasn't too crazy about her as Maureen...

But in Wicked she hit PHENOMINAL!!!!

She proves it here!!!! THIS IS TEAR DRAWING, UNDESCRIBLABLE, PHENOMINAL TALENT!!!

  • @fireandicecube *Gasp* Why not, she's amazing in RENT, what about 'Take Me Or Leave Me'? o_O

  • My favorite number :)

  • alright! enough! so be it then....

    let all Oz be agreed,

I am Wicked, through and trhough,

since I cannot succseed, Fiyero saving you.

no good deed will I do again.

So let's start with killing the replay button.

  • I'm so glad its dark in the theater because i was in tears through out the 2nd act haha

  • i tried to hold the againnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn, but i got about halfway done and almost choked

  • @harrypotterrocks1762

shes an amazing singer!! with all the notes she holds!! i love her voice!! :D

  • @DrStarman14jc

it's amazing how long she can hold those notes

  • @harrypotterrocks1762 Seriously? I got to the end of "again" and still had plenty of air to spare.

  • @limalicious harrypotter rocks is probably siinging it with the classical music technique and that takes more air. Musical singing... to put it bluntly is a controlled shout, which takes less air whilst allowing cerain more impressive feats like higher notes in males and also those really long holds... its a really useful technique to learn. thats possibly why you can hold it longer. :D

  • @themeandoringangel:

yea, i supose i was doing the classical music technique thing. i try to learn the other way. thanks.

  • @harrypotterrocks1762 I can hold that part out twice as long as she does in he song

  • @KeelieNerio well, congrads!!

  • I hated the second act...... It made me cry too much

  • Well, I always hated Dorthy. Why? Because in the very beginning she took the only lasting thing from someone's dead sister. Can you imagine some girl coming over to you dead sister's body and snatching the only thing you had to remember her by?

  • @tristanchan But she didn't, Glinda took the shoes from Nessarose and placed them on Dorothys feet. Dorothy didn't even have a say in it, she just did what she was told...

  • so.. wait is Elphaba's last name Thropp? is thoroughly confused....

  • SPOILERS

I'm sorry, but why do people hate Dorothy?

Dorothy didn't do anything as far as I know...

Madame Morrible sent her to Oz and killed Nessarose.

Glinda put the red ruby slippers on her.

Elphaba and Fiyero had planned for Dorothy to melt Elphaba, so that all Ozians would believe Elphaba was dead, which is probably why Elphaba placed a bucket of water near Dorothy as Elphaba lit her broomstick on fire...

Dorothy didn't even know that Elphaba would melt, and Elphaba didn't even melt...

  • @evilshoemaker

...The book. I advise you not to read the book. Not unless your 18 or older. Take it from someone who's young and has read the book *Shivers*

  • @MerryFabalaFaeWaka What's wrong with the book? It's amazing even for someone who is younger. But I understand what your saying. Evilshoemaker doesn't realize how much they changed the book's story to make it into the musical. The Musical ends differently and has a different storyline for a lot of it. Such as (SPOILERS) in the book Fiyero dies while in the musical he becomes the scarecrow.

  • @evilshoemaker IYou should read the book!!! whether you're 13 or 75 it's brilliant !! that will give you more perspective , the musical doesn't fit with the book in many ways , both are good , but you need to read the book then you'll have an opinion I read it when i was 16 and now I'm 19 and i'm willing to read the 4th and last book!

  • Comment removed

  • @evilshoemaker Very, VERY correct. In the musical (though she's hardly mentioned), she cant be blamed.

Even in the book she doesnt know she's going to kill Elphaba by throwing the bucket of water. She was trying to save her life. The only reason I personally hate dorothy is because in the book her innocence and ignorance to everything is just shit annoying.

  • Idina Menzel é a melhor de todas as que intepretaram Elphaba Thropp. Perfeita!

  • idina menzel best elphaba amazing vocals

  • i sing along to this, but i can't even begin to compare myself with Idina.

  • i hate how everyone thinks everyone else who sings this song is good they are all pretty bad. Idina has set the limit and no one can raise touch her.

  • @jfaurex4 Fuck you! I can't believe you got 4 thumbs up for that you don't deserve it! Everyone has a favourite Elphaba and will say they are better whether you like it or not!! It's a different preference!! Idina originated the role and it's a VERY hard role to fit but all these women who played Elphaba have put their heart and soul into it and you just bring down their standards by saying they're bad!! How the hell would you know? You haven't seen all of them! I like Willemijn just as much**

  • @jfaurex4 as Idina and I also like Sho and Eden. They are not bad at all. It's because bitchy die-hard fans lik you won't accept anyone's opinion and judging by your comment you sound like a stuck-up, self-righteous brat. I too like Idina but I HAT extremist fans like you. Grow up!

  • i lovee this song! my friend got me addicted to this song. I've read the book but i want to see the musical soooo bad!!!!!

  • One of my favorite songs♥

  • What am I going to do the next time I see the play!!! >:O Jump up and scream FIYERO!!!!!!!!!! :'( Tears in my eyes and plug my ears (won't do much for me though) Oh gosh! Reading the book and loving the Fiyero and the play as much as I do does NOT help while watching him DIE and Elphaba mourning (It is MUCH sadder in the book though so I should be thankful. (IN the book he actually does die, horribly might I add and Fae...D: D: D: ) what am I to do?

  • its funny cuz in the wizard of all we thought dorothy was the hero but now we understand that she ruined everything

  • SUCH an amazing play! I prefer rachel tucker but thats only because i just saw her live a couple days ago SHE IS AMAZING!

  • "let all of Oz be agreed: I'm wicked through and through since i cannot succeed, Fiyero saving you, i promise no good deed with i attempt to do again, EVER AGAIN!"

    *chills* EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

  • Thumbs up if you liked the play better than the book!

(And yes I did read it.)

  • @animalluver8153

haha...yeah hate admitting it but it's true! ^_^

  • I saw this yesterday in the west end Rachel Tucker did a great job of this! I love this song so amazing! :)

  • No matter how many times I hear this song, it gives me chill bumps. *shudder*

  • This musical has put a spell on me ever since I saw it in 2007 on West End.

  • i will never look at dorothy the same way i did when I was 5..........

  • @iwillsingforever I now think that dorothy is evil

  • @iwillsingforever wretched farm girl...

  • @iwillsingforever Just to tell you....Dorothy ahs a minor part in this paly...when she "kills" the witch....Dorothy did nothing but try to get home lol...she had no idea what the Witch was nor how good she was.

  • This song has inspired me to write my own musical based on the wizard of oz about the witch of the east. It couldn't be as good as this though. my songs are no match to the amazing lyrics and music composed by wicked.

  • @TheBProductionz Don't forget the Witch of the East is Nessarose.

  • @TheBProductionz

Please don't forget, Nessa wasn't green, she was spoiled, never learned the magical arts, went to Shiz, (in the play) was in love with Boq, and (inside joke) had a great taste in shoes. (I actually like her socks. XD ) Love Wicked so I wish you luck!!!

  • I went to see Wicked in the west end yesterday and cant get this song out my head!!!!!

went to see harry potter7 pt2 and was humming this

  • The second act is so much DARKER than the first, where everything was happy go lucky. This song captures a lot of the anger and raw emotion of the book, which I love :)

  • awesome book, awesome musical, awesomness.

  • I LOVE THIS <3

  • <3

  • I think this has to be the best some in the whole of Wicked. Sure, Popular is hilarious, and Wonderful is so catchy, but No Good Deed just sums up Elphidalia's life. She started out good, then turned bad to try and be good. And it's just so beautiful, the intruments, the vioce and the lyrics. I just love this song!

  • @DreamfulAutummn

IKR its my favorite song in the whole musical and its closer to her emotion in the original Book.

  • @DreamfulAutummn so true! This song really does capture all of her emotions in one short 3 and a half minute song. if u ask me the song isn't long enough....

  • @DreamfulAutummn Elphaba, you mean?

  • @Stigma231 Yes

  • @DreamfulAutummn

:L Her name is Elphaba, its a mashup of the authors initials L. Frank Baum, L f b <3

  • @14elphaba Sorry about spelling, I wrote that before I figured out how to spell her name. I lookd at it just now and went :O

  • @14elphaba I didn't know

  • The spells send shivers up my spine - they sound so real

  • @Schnuffel11432 she does in the book

  • Okay, she dies in the book. The musical version takes liberties,. get over it. Meanwhile her vocal, the very song itself is so G*d D*amned FIERCE I cannot contain myself.

  • @MauiLevi NO GOOD DEAD GOES UNPUNISHED. ROCKS!!!

  • @MauiLevi not only does she die, fiyero also dies in the book. So sad.

  • @TheMastervidmaker no, elphaba escapes into her spell book and fieryo becomes the scarecrow

  • Comment removed

  • @pickles454

SPOILERS Hate to break it to ya pickles, but Master dude is right. I've read the book (no I know I shouldn't have at my age BELIEVE ME!) and Fiyero dies because of THE AHHHHHH GALE FORCE AND HORRIBLE MORRIBLE (I would murder them if they were real) and Elphaba was allergic to water and "melted". Other people that died: Turtle Heart, Melena, Dr. Dillamon, Ama Clutch, Sarima, Manek, Irji, Nessa, Frexspur. Eh...there is one death after the other, but i cried so HARD for Fiyero! :'(

  • @MerryFabalaFaeWaka oh, well thanks for telling me. i havent read the book yet, though i want to.

  • @pickles454

I'm sorry...for got to write spoiler. I was so upset (still am) so I'm trying to gather evidence that he is the scarecrow though. I hope ever so much that he is. No one else matches in the book--just him. I won't give up, and I'm not going to let this go. When you do read the book be careful. If you are over 17 I think you'd be ready...maybe. It's kind of bad--take it from someone who's generally young. GOOD LUCK! HEH HEH I hope I haven't really spoiled it for you! :'(

  • @MerryFabalaFaeWaka dont worry, no one could really spoil a book for me. :D
