  • THANK YOU. We are all eyes of the World.

  • a tremendous version of my favorite song! And I was there!! What a treat, and this is an excellent thing y'all people

  • The Dead from the period between1970-77 was their best.... Jer's voice is just too beat up here.

  • @deweypug so you would suggest that after YOU are past your "prime" that we should ignore and not appreciate anything YOU do?.. unfortunately for us, some of us were born after 1960, & so later Jerry is what we grew up with, and we LOVE it... if you don't dig this, right here, well, maybe you don't dig Jerry as much as you'd like to think... i for on do, and do...

  • @yossarianhunter Perhaps my friend... However, you miss the point of my comment - I always appreciated the Dead, but prefer the days of their analog sound, rather than their digital midi sound which predominated in '80's and later.... I was not around to hear them play in the seventies either, but it's clear that Jerry's voice was much better then. His heroin (and cigarette) addiction was more important to him than the music at this point, and the entire band suffered due to it

  • Its nice that they were able to play the things sober that they were only able to write while tripping. Too bad life is so short and fragile.

  • This tune makes me smile, cry and love the Dead more and more each day...

  • Jerry is pretty on here, and animated too ! Great turns by Brent also.

  • and sometimes the songs that we hear are just songs of our own...

  • Lets build that time machine right now!!!!!!

  • WWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOO

  • "Some times we live in no particular way but our own..."

  • Damn it....when will someone just invent a time machine? Doc Brown thought it up back in 85 and we're STILL waiting!!!

  • Best wishes to all from Less Than Face Productions. Special thanks to Marty Mendelbaum of LTF Manhattan for all his glorious Hampton help.

  • They played Some awsome Shows Here God Bless Them All

  • This is a jam! The boys sound really good here and it puts a smile on my face to see Jerry so happy and dancing and smiling. <3

  • they must have hit every clear chord progresion's note ever within a small thought. wow roygbiv morning brings god bless again

  • nice posturee on the guitar straps, looks like me, a hunched over old man silver cloud phishing 4 neitszche seized remember my grilled chheese sammich , no you re the hard right never left

    achoo, bless you!

  • '77 may have been perfection but '88 Jerry sounds like a geezer....

  • I actually like the old Jerry voice on several tunes (i.e. Black Peter) his young voice was great but his old voice does the trick sometimes. Check out Visions of Johanna from 3/18/95 it's the best version they ever played and a rare gem for 95.

  • 70's eyes is just so much better... like most live dead

  • Awesome video! Sound is great! Thanks for posting this!

  • This is good but it isn't Englishtown!

  • @jdeweyhs Yup, '77 was pure perfection, so true! I just cringe hearing Jerry's beat up voice in these later days...

  • so much fun to jam to this stuff just pull out the major scales and rip...

  • @ehendin makes me as scared of air traffic contol me nah i go my way feel me nuke me send me 8x10's and wallet size and meke that a dounlre iodine uptake for me and your shallow measures

  • even though jerry died right before i was born, i still feel a huge connection to him. i could cry just listening to him sing. miss you jerry, and wish i couldve seen you somewhere other than my mind, and youtube...

  • the fat man can dance.. thank you jerry.. 9 times out of 10 when I am crying, Jerry is the cause..

  • I don't think I've ever seen or heard Jerry more into an eyes than this. Amazing.

  • OMG Awesome Eyes!!! man they were so on this night!!! They definitely had a jump in there step.

  • OMG Awesome Eyes!!! man they were so on this night!!!

  • This is great! The Fat Man Rocks!

  • Brett and Jerry were all over this one. Still have goose bumps.

  • freaking amazing song... i used to listen to this every day before school... and then when i got there my teacher would tell me i smelled like weed and laugh ... good thing he was a hippy lol

  • freaking amazing song... i used to this to this every day before school

  • A few dance steps? Ole Jer was doing the Charleston!

  • @shennygolfer ....That was the Texas One Step (too tired after that)

  • i was born to this song

  • Absolutely MONSTROUS!!!! So great to see Garcia having so much fun!!!

  • thanx 4 the "high time"

  • This was my second show.... I never fully recovered...

  • I wasn't alive for the 60's stuff, I was too young for the 70's shows (born in 1970) but the mid to late 80's were when I went to about half a dozen Dead shows (DC area). Brings back a lot of memories, lots of fun, old friends (most of whom I am no longer in contact with), and I loved the entire spectacle of the traveling "carnival" that traveled with them. Where have the years gone. Great memories- thanks for posting this video!

  • very groovy, one of my fave.

  • I get the feeling that The Grateful Dead was inspired by the Hampton Coliseum . This is a great rendition of Eyes of the World ... a real joy to listen to . Very thankful for youtube because i never made it to a Grateful Dead show , because i was always working ( right across the street from the old Capital Center in Landover , MD . We always sold out of Bass Ale and Guiness when the band was in town .

  • ENJOY MY ART.

  • 2:05 - there's no shame in Jerry's Game. He drops that lick like a supernova on his audience. His joy and humanity shines through :)

  • The Mothership!

  • hes so on in this so ng

  • :-)

  • Was Jerry clean at this point in time?

  • Eyes is one of my favorite jams. I don't know if it's the key or what, but it has this great jazz feel to it.

  • @boisnowinthehouse I agree. this is one of my favorite songs too. It does have a great jazz feel to it.

  • i miss you jerry!

  • Everyone misses and loves Jerry R.I.P.

  • yah 2:04 is crazy!

  • im alice!!! thank you Dead!!

  • There is nothing like a Grateful Dead Concert! Maybe come around again in the next life?

  • how about that monster pterodactyl lick jerry nails at 2:04? the crowd's reaction is priceless.

  • haha, i love that lick. I dl'd this concert vid a few years ago off of furthurnet, and this was my fav video of eyes, because of that lick. Whenever i play this song, i always start out my solo's the same way, I can't stop doing it, lol.

  • Thanks again for all of the footage. Can't wait to see more from the show. Were you the cameraman? Thanks again.

  • thanks XXXX***

  • Really good sound for a home movie. Brings back some great memories.

  • Great Eyes!!! Great spontaneous licks Jerry hit between verse lines at 6;40 to 7:00

  • Back when The Dead was the Dead...

  • @JoshuaTaylor Back when they were The GRATEFUL Dead

  • lol I love your description "on and on they go" they do go onand on...but so wonderfully

  • funny to see this on here. This was one of the first shows i downloaded from the archive and it's a great eyes, too bad the estimated isn't on here as well, but great video.

  • I am in process of getting the Estimated back up...It, along with several tracks, were removed by YouTube last spring and I have so far successfully disputed MOST of them and they were restored...Check in on occasion and it will be there eventually! PEACE

  • @SpottheLooney How does Youtube say you can't post videos by the dead? They allowed people to bring tape recorders to the concerts!

  • Respond to this video... I love Brent's playing on this Eyes. I like him much better than Bruce Hornsby.

  • The band was on it this night....when are they not. I love you Mister Jerry

  • Great EOTW!

  • Love that slide Jerry does at 2:00.

    He seemed pretty clear here.

  • At my first show, March 1987, Philly, during GDTRFB (I think) he kicked one leg way up, and the crowd flipped! He's so missed. I wish he'd taken better care of his health.

  • Jerry's diggin Brent at 1:30 and 1:40

  • and so am I

  • the band is so on fire it is sick!!!

  • 88 is better than 77 cmon are you serious?

  • What energy! Jerry & the boys are totally "in" the groove. Unfortunately, I never got to see the Grateful Dead but, thankfully I have their muisc.

  • I can agree completely. I'm sad that I never got to see Jerry or Brent, at least we can all listen to the music play.

  • Jerry and the boys? Smokin' hot! fo sssssssssssssizzle

  • Sorry but this performance is NOT one of their better ones....Jerry seems weak and tired...

  • Jerry sounds like he is articulating strong and clearly to me. Seems like he's got the verse in order too.

  • well of course its not 1977, but you must take into consideration this was after he had been in a coma, and literally had to re-learn all of the material. So considering the situation, I think he sounds wonderful.

  • This Song I Love . Hornsby I Don´t . Play that Guitarcia .

  • Painful

  • Not kidding. Sure this was a great show (like most were) but out of all the shows I've been too, Hartford was one of the most memorable for me. Everyone has their own favorites.

  • This is ridiculous garcia... god bless.

  • Are you kidding me? You wont get better Jerry....a proud deadhead

  • are you fucking joking or what?!? Anything from 1977 - far superior! End of argument!

  • yes i was totally kidding. Way to state the obvious, of course 1977 is superior.

  • Hartford '89 shows were my favorite.

  • The Less Than Face Productions release of 3/27/88 included the digital soundboard. This video was shot on a Panasonic PV-100. The ORIGINAL audio was The Healy FM out of an Aiwa walkman onto the left channel and 2 Sennheiser 441s onto the right channel. Both sets from 3/27/88 have been released by LTF. 3/26/88 will be released shortly!!! Mahalo.

  • wondering where th sound was recorded...if from th cam corder, sounds a hell of alot better than sum of th thousand dollar mics i've heard...excellent job...thnx

  • Happy Holidays from all at Less Than Face Productions.

  • nice vocals. jerry must have been a blast on karaoke night.

  • Of course, the LP's were nothing like the shows, but this song always takes me back to Bolinas, January of 1978, holed up in a little bunkhouse with some other bird-banders, listening to "Wake of the Flood." Wow, man....

  • Coyote023, your off by about two years..... Brents death saw the end of the Good 'Ole Grateful Dead as we knew it. Just look at the Eyes from 3/29/90!!!!!!!

  • That was special, Thankyou!

Gee I definitely am a Wharf Rat!

  • jerry is having sooooooo,,,, much fun but truth be told after 1988 that was the true end of the grateful dead .the last show i saw that was strong start to end was 12/31/88. after that it was obvious jerry was not having much fun at all.maybe in the garcia band he still came to play and smiled and dug being where he was.sorry for being honest.

  • dont think i'm agreeing here...heard interviews from 89' and later, never got a notion Jerry wasn't having a good time...trucking up to Buffalo a great example here...Jerry bouncing round having fun dueling with Brent...watch th women r smarter on this dvd...Jerry was digging it til th end, imo...

  • Hugs and Nugs not Negs and Dregs. I never saw a Dead show I did not like. Yes, once in a while Jerry was lookin' burnt out (once or twice in my fifty or so) but he was a consumate professional and always impressed me.

  • Coyote blanket statements like yours are always foolish. jerry had some great shows through 1995. Yes more stinkers from 1993-95 then any other period but still many great shows with jerry smiling and dancing throughout. I am sooooo sick of all the heaads dissing everything after such and such a year. it is insulting to the band and just downright ignorant.

  • If you dis the band, you ain't a head!

  • wtf?!? sometimes the band warrants dissing (and sometimes the songs that you hear are just songs of your own). they're not above reproach by any means.

still, not a bad EOTW -- especially for 1988

  • I'm not talking about warranted criticism. I've seen them stink up the joint more than once. I'm talking about people who say they can't play or dismiss them as a bunch of "hippies". In other words, disrespect out of ignorance.

  • But you have to admit the majority of the shows from that period were painful to watch or listen to. Once the Dead gained commercial success after In the Dark and had to play huge arenas they were never the same. The crux of what the Dead were about was connecting on an intimate level with the audience. I saw my fair share of shows and Giants Stadium and you just didn't get it there. Jerry felt overwhelmed by his obligation to play X amount of shows with the Dead every year in the later years.

  • This was a great night, but the run at the Worcester Centrum just after this was out of this world. They sound checked St. Stephen and played three stellar shows after.

  • The entire Spring '88 tour was incredible; Jerry was on top, in charge and having good clean fun. I never made made it to Worcester-only saw the first third of the tour, but the tapes circulated quickly and the Friday night Mass stands out as the best. Looking at page 156 of DBVIII, 3-27 is the best show. Of course, Worcester's on the next page! THIS VIDEO POINTS UP WHY BANDS LIKE PHISH WANT TO PLAY AT HAMPTON. The band in our back yard. VA Deadhead 4-ever.

  • one of them songs that makes you think of the hippie age of the late 60's and early 70's when you woke up........

  • Hasn't the first set been released by Less Than Face Productions? It's out there somewhere.

  • anytime jerry does a few dance steps, then you know the show is special, the fat bastard

  • @papapeasant Jerry always danced at Hampton. Must have been the mothership connection!

  • @papapeasant

    Jerry STOMP at 3:55......Just awesome!

  • @papapeasant ........The Jerry stomp at 3:55....Priceless!

  • What a great night this was. They were clearly firing on all cylindars. I remember being there with all my friends dancing in the hallways that had crystal clear sounding speakers averywhere.

  • you wouldn't happen to have the first set of this show, would you?

  • Check out his run on 6:43.

Shit, Jerry was ON that night!

  • Love it!
