  • Ueberwaeltigend | earthshatteringly beautiful!

  • Please, don't forget that these two are not acting for the camera, which is the performance your seeing; they're acting for an entire opera house. All actions have to be 15 times larger.

    A parte questo un'interpretazione splendida! :)

  • @marghe19 si stava impappinando, fortuna ke si è ripreso in tempo.

  • Bartoli is such a good actress. Her face shows so many subtle emotions. She wasn't blessed with looks like Netrebko and others but she's far more entertaining!

  • I noticed there were 799 "likes", so I gladly made the 800th. :)

  • I see there are 25 deaf people....

  • orrendo.

  • Brilliant! I have an ornament, bought by a friend with no taste at all, of two pigs in a compromising position and the caption is 'Love ya? Of course I love ya!' Can't help thinking of this every time I watch this video! They both do this wonderfully well.

  • Maravilloso,perfecto... mejro no se puede

  • ¡Excelente, bravo por ambos!

  • Enjoyable. All you perfectionists need to loosen your strings. You're tuned too tight. Be a listener, not a judge.

  • it might be cheesy because it is a caricature of a seduction, not just a seduction... with classic opera like this, i believe there is a certain amount of "cheesiness" that is good to have... similar in other classical and bel canto music, the overacting just kinda fits. does he forget the words at 1:06

  • @hideyourbuttchuck I think he does, although I didn't notice that before ...(oh well, I think the rest of the performance means that we can't criticize him for it)

  • it might be cheesy because it is a caricature of a seduction, not just a seduction... with classic opera like this, i believe there is a certain amount of "cheesiness" that is good to have... similar in other classical and bel canto music, the overacting just kinda fits.

  • Listen to EZIO PINZA and BLANCHE THEBOM

  • i'm afraid i would marry him if i was zerlina.

  • @zralokvemigraci You wouldn't. He would have had his way with you and have you driven away the following day, weeping and in despair... ;-(

  • @nnmakowska then i should make myself corrcect - i would say yes and than do what you say. those men... :( ... :)

  • @zralokvemigraci And yet we cannot live without them... ;-)

  • Cheesy acting

  • @DanyNicola Opera isnt television. Its creation comes from its magical portrayal of larger-than-life scenes. This isn't cheesy - It is correct.

  • @Vivaldicellist His acting is ok, actually very original. Hers is VERY cheesy. When she says at 3:12 "I'd like to, but I wouldn't like to either" she first walks towards him, then walks away. Wow genius idea -.- cheeeeesy. Plus, her facial expressions! Gritty. 3:37 she looks like a small child whos asking her toy back

  • @DanyNicola Yes, but dont forget that they're acting it for the people in the audience, and not for the camera. they have to exaggerate everything

  • @Vivaldicellist i'm sorry to bother you with such stupid questions, but could you please explain to me the term for me unknown until now - "cheesy"? i'm not very good at english and i'm afraid i can't deduce it myself... thank you.)

  • @zralokvemigraci Cheesy is a term used to mean... Overdone? Tacky or Tasteless?

  • @Vivaldicellist thank you very much.)

  • Does no one hear how she is whispering and not singing half the time? At least her vowels here aren't borrowed from Snooki like they usually are.

  • BRYN HAS SUCH AN AMAZING ITALIAN ACCENT! GREAT PRONUNCIATION! JUST GREAT.... and I'm italian!

  • excelente versión de dos grandes cantantes...

  • boss singing. boss acting. 10/10

  • ENCHANTING. Such a beautiful, superb aria, sung with so much feelings and seduction... Beautiful !!!!!!

  • HEAVEN

  • 21 people picked the wrong button!!!!

  • All other versions of this, I couldn't understand why she chose to listen to him rather than her fiance. ....NOW I UNDERSTAND.

  • The most beautiful execution of this fine duet. They sing and play perfectly well

  • Most exquisite version of this piece that I've ever heard.

  • Cecilia Bartoli & Bryn Terfel, mehr als nur Musik . Danke

  • wow fantastic, seduction brilliant performance

  • Bryn es increíble! Totalmente noble, seductor y perverso a la vez!

  • 1:02 Voi non FZS siete fatta . . .

  • @seriousluk333 hahaha, I caught that too

  • MOzart, Mozart,Mozart. Dio dell'arte

  • Comment removed

  • Terfel is a God!. Tecnique, expression, style, good taste, a good actor too.

Bartoli uses a "too moving " vibrato, which gives a bad taste to her interpretation.

  • Much better than Hampson who seems to have only one volume....loud....

  • I did not understand any Italian word but because of those artists and their performance I perfectly understood what was the aria about. Love Cecilia!

  • Lovely voices, great artists!

  • His voice makes all the hairs on the back of my neck stand up... I'd succumb in minutes.

  • They are the absolutely most adorable duet that I've seen yet. :D

  • Wonderful and I could listen to it over and over.

  • He's SO TALL!!! And so beautiful.

  • I am Melting. These Two are Totally Perfect!

  • I would say that he is too confident but lacking that voluptuous slyness of the character, in spite of his unmatchable voice - Cecilia is just perfect !

  • My favorite singers..............

Ah so expressivo.. and so technical perfecto.....

    Gerard Blom

  • This recit. is making me drool - for someone not conventionally handsome, he is so unspeakably sexy. I guess confidence really is sex-appeal. period.

  • Oh Bryn is brilliant as Don Giovanni. What a rogue...plucking the petals from the daisy as he plucks another woman away from her betrothed. "in Italy, a thousand and three"!

  • Bryn, Bryn, Bryn! What a charmer! You can sing to me anytime! Truly beautiful duet!

  • 5:12.... the most beautyful sound i've ever heard!!!!!

  • @MatSwim94 I KNOW.

  • Milyen szép az a kék ruha!! :)

  • nice voice. I like SImon Keenlyside more, but he is good.

  • This is just so good! She's so shy at the beginning and by the end, she's the one chasing him! Now, that's seduction! Bryn and Cecilia, brilliant combination!

  • Cecilia rulez!

  • @gitaclick AMEN!

  • Amazing. A perfect combination of persiasion and delicacy, and shameless actitude at the same time...

  • Its a perfect act, that's what opera all about. They make it livable. For get the mombo jombo and enjoy the the music. Jaydee Australia.

  • you mean - live the words and let the music help you to carry the meaning?

  • I love how Bryn twirks his eyebrows! It totally suits him!

  • "Andiam, andiam, mio bene,

    A ristorar le pene

    D'un innocente amor..."

    Priceless.

  • I think the one he does at the met with the Korean singer is more 'in character,' if that's what you care about.

  • even when he whispers he is so powerful; who could resist him?Although I prefer him as Leporello - here he is (actually both of them) amazing.

  • Un un impostura della gente plebea.

    What a badass line.

  • @hymnofashes Damn player-hating plebeians!

  • @dideoxynucleotide I agree. Hate the player, not the game, support the troops, condemn the war, etc. etc. Lorenzo Da Ponte made him do it. Poor, misunderstood Meatloaf.

  • Oh dear. The walrus is leading away another oyster.

  • When he takes her hands and they look eachother in the eyes near the beginning, and especially when he moves her hair out of the way and their faces touch during the "section", it doesn't seem just like Zerlina is in love with Don G. It seems that Cecilia is in love with Bryn!! Wonderful acting..or perhaps even real feelings :D

  • @TheMidgetRedhead Yeah, Cecilia definitely has the 'I've thought about this so many times before' look to her. Not the look of a younger woman overwhelmed by charm, but an older woman giving into something she knows is wrong and will end badly in spite of herself. For that matter Bryn seems really too sincere, though I guess a master seducer might just be a perfect liar. In any case, not worth it to trip over whether it's 'in character;' its a phenomenal performance.

  • i like it alot... but why is Bartoli singing this? She is obviously a mezzo?

  • @Buzaglod

she's sung soprano roles before though

  • Two of my favorite singers! Thank you for posting this.

  • 1:03

    "voi non SVSZVZVIete fatta... "

    :D

  • Omg he sing like a walk or speak for anyone she is perfect i love it so much!!!

  • He´s perfect!!

  • This is the best Zerlinetta seduction I´ve ever seen eventhough it´s a concert version. Directors allways make Don giovanni too molesting and Zerlina often react very unrealistic for a yuong unexperienced girl on her weddingday. This is more credible. And they sing absolutely wonderful! Cecilias "andiam" at 5:11-5:18, OH! Perfect!

  • I agree.Probably it is due to the fact they have a good chemistry. Their voices match, their acting is equally good, and they are both very powerfull performers. thanks for posting

  • Marvelous! The tempo really works for this slow masterful seduction of Zerlina.

  • I always thought Bryn was a little to bass to sing this role to my personal taste, but he's actually doing a great job here.

I can't get my head around him being The Don though, he will forever be Masetto in my eyes. The first role I ever saw him perfrom was Masetto in a ROH performance with the REAL Don, Thomas Allen.

  • I think Bryan Terfel is attractive when he is with his " women ".

  • They should get together seriously XD I think they just fit so perfectly ahaha

  • 1:03

    voi non SVZSVZsiete fatta...

    haahahh funny! :D

  • Bryn Terfel singing Mozart is an absolute wonder. MOSTRO.

  • @Vendimi3 I agree!!

  • This is the best version I have heard! But: It is time to compose a modern "la ci darem la mano", with a stronger female part and based on a gender conscious perspective! I´ll start right away! /Kjell Perder, composer

  • Wow!

  • I love the contrast: He's almost bored, picking petals from a flowing. It's all routine - she's just one more on the list. While, for Zerlina, this could be a life changing moment. These 2 pull it off really, really well.

  • Grazie mille per il bellissimo video!!!! :-)

  • well, in italian there should be an accent on the first "la", which stands for there. It should be "là ci darem la mano". Maybe Mozart wrote the first là without the accent, so we continued writing it like that because of the original lyrics. who knows...

  • What an intelligent and helpful comment. Thank you. You seem to know something about the topic and you share it with those like me who know much too little.

Your comment is a model for the rest of us. Again, thank you.

  • @TedMichaelMorgan Too much honor for me my friend ! Many thanks to you. I'm happy I could be of some help.

  • Gracias,gracias y mil millones de gracias

  • excelent,but i'm only loenly bastard

  • question:

is there an accent on the "NO" syllable in "la ci darem la maNO"?

some versions on youtube has accent while others don't. On my score there is an accent.

    thanks

  • there's no accent. in spanish at least when a word ends in a vowel, the stress is in the last but one syllable without accent. I think in italian it's the same

  • On my soce as well, but who knows?

  • 1.03 - I think he just looked too much at her ;)))) Love them both!

  • Where is the sound!!! :( Pity...

  • 1:32-1:35 ooooooh what a tease.

  • Adoro Mozart!!!

  • Good!

  • Bryn Terfel is incapable of performing Mozart badly.

  • I suspect Bryn Terfel would be incapable of performing the phone book badly.

  • This made me laugh OUT LOUD at hom eby myself.

  • Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the best quote I've ever read on YouTube :-)

  • SPLENDIDI!

Terfel incanta con voce e interpretazione seducente e magica, Cecilia stupenda piani forti e voce magnifica.

    Che peccato quell'indecisione di Terfel a 1,03

  • 1.03 who cares??? makes more human.

1.03 chi interesse? fa piu humano...

  • one of the best versions in my opinion :)

  • They have great voices and they act amazing.

  • Terfel: The Voice!

    Cecilia: The Voice!

  • Terfel: The Singer!

    Cecilia: The Singer!

  • This is fairly amazing. Terfel's seduction is really hypnotic. He doesn't overwhelm, he suggests. Bartoli's angst is assuaged to the point where her "andiam" becomes the more assertive one. The psychology here is wonderful - and so is the singing.

  • A wonderful performance from wonderful artists!

  • Could this be any slower?

  • Echt süß die zwei ;-)

    Und sehr schön gesungen

  • Oh, Zerlina...so vulnerable, even on your wedding day :). Why is Masetto just letting this happen? Get in there and defend her honor!

  • he makes a mistake in the recit???? oh my GOOOOD

  • YES HE DIIIIIIID!

  • He's seductive . . . complete control of stage craft

  • He IS Don Giovani!

Well acted and amazingly sung both of them.

  • i agree

  • Sandrina, sexy is one thing, Sensual is better than sexy. This song isn't supposed to be sexy, but seductive. But some people don't understand that. Maybe you'll learn the difference one day.

  • damn hot

  • Anybody else find him really sexy?

  • @RivaJane: Definitely! :)

  • Wow, estupendo me encanta Cecilia, que voz :O

  • sempre un piacere sentire certe voci

  • Ahh I love this song so much, and they sing it so perfectly!! Bryn is just fantastic. His smug expressions, his rich tone. It's just great! And Cecilia plays the character so well with her voice and with her facial expressions. The tempo was dragging a little bit, but even still, this is my favorite rendition of this song ever! I love Bryn and Cecilia!!!

  • Me facina Cecilia!!

  • why does cecilia sings sat down?

  • LOL... she doesn't. She's just about 4 feet shorter than Bryn :-)

  • Is it getting warm in the room or is it me??

    Wonderful!

  • such is the power of MOZART, he ate beans 200 years ago and now you fart, amazing!

  • Two of my favorite singers :) :)

  • the basses act tambien of baritones

  • Fantastic diction.

  • Cecilia's expressions are so awesome. They make me laugh.

    Check out 5:45! :D

  • Well, Bryn is not a bass, is he? He's actually a bariton. ;) Anyway, what gives Bryn that litlle extra, is the fact that his voice and technique comes naturally to him, and is his God-given talent, not something anyone has thaught him.

  • Baritone :)

  • false...he's a bass baritone

  • I love these two. His voice is so rich. And he's good at that smug expressions, especially for someone with so sweet a face.

And her facial expression when she said 'andiam' the first time is so funny.

  • beautiful indeed! but don´t you think she should try to act a little less?

  • what??? why?

  • superb

    love this group

  • Bryn makes a mistake when saying "vois non siete fatta per esser paesana"...instead he says "voi non ff-siete fatta per essere paesana"

  • italian recits can be a bit tricky sometimes

  • nice job! I, too, LOVE catching errors in a beautiful performance. it just makes my life SO complete!

  • I am happy you have such an easy way to feel SO complete. On the contrary I don't love catching errors. Yet if to your ears that word sounds just as the real one, to an italian it sounds as if it was another and a nonsense. Moreover that dragged "FFSIETE" becomes other notes and delays the structure of the piece. Yes a real beautiful piece, but with an error.

  • Oh, come ON! If you know opera at all, you know that a recitative does not have an exact structure. I am so incredibly sick and tired of people who feel the need to point out small, insignificant mistakes in videos like these. The purpose of posting something like this is so people can enjoy it, not try to rip it apart.

  • Ok ok.....cool down, I am fine with this video :-). But do not take it too serious, you tube is not a theater, I did my idiot comment, but was not meant to upset anybody....

  • I think you have some validity in your comment. A performance is a performance and it is meant to be performed correctly, but I agree with flatt1942. Music is here for enjoyment, to express feelings other things can't, to have fun, to smile, to laugh, to feel alive. Mistakes are a part of life, and live performance, and it makes them special. We can all be critics to a certain extent, but never forget the true purpose of music, and try not to judge too harshly.

  • Bryn has a perfect italian pronunciation. Heprobably made a mistake because he was telling "voi non foste (the past of the verb to be) fatta per essere paesana" and then he corrected himself . It's a very light mistake.
