We saw the monkeys at Rothbury last weekend. Awesome! they drew quite a crowd every night, and the effect was amazing as the rotor synched up with the strobes and the monkeys swung along, devouring handsnakes with apples as they slithered down the arms. Videos do not do this thing justice... must be problems with video frame rate and strobe rate out of synch. It was amazing live...
the upper torso is a fiberglass lifecast of my friend meme. the head and legs are hand carved styrofoam with cast resin faces and the feet are cast human hands. they are covered in fake fur. each character represents about two weeks of work. they are neither chimp or man. they are an amalgam of each.
i've never been to burning man. but so need to go.
