at what point in boot camp do Marines receive their EGA? during the graduation ceremony or right after the crucible? just curious, i'm enlisting this February
@raverboi89 those marines that were looking too the right were not wrong. . . . . . .everyone looks to he right except for 4th squad. The drill movement is called "Eyes Right"
@raverboi89 those marines that were looking too the right were not wrong. . . . . . .everyone looks to he right except for 4th squad. The drill movement is called "Eyes Right"
@raverboi89 That's "EYES RIGHT", Raver. It displays respect to the reviewing stand (where the CG, dignitaries & guests are), while the 4th squad serves as the base of the movement. They (4th squad) don't turn their heads, so they can maintain a perfectly straight line of march. The other squads dress on the 4th squad. The Platoon Sgt (DI) and Platoon Guide at the head of the platoon will PRESENT ARMS w/NCO sword & Giudeon. They're right according to the USMC manual for close order drill, OooRah?
that does not mean he was in ROTC or JROTC. PFC is given to the honor graduate of each class. Most schools do not have a JRTOC program for the USMC. Most of them are Army or Air Force.
He is getting his Eagle, Globe and Anchor emblem. Some drill instructor hold somethings back to motivate you and to challenge so you could look foward to be a Marine. My drill instructor wouldn't allow us to blouse our boots or unbuton our first buton of our camy shirt. He told us we were not Marines till we were done. As soon as we passed second phase bootcamp he allowed us to unbuton the buton but no blousing the boot. I guess this Drill Istructor held back the emblem

Great video! Put me close to tears because I can remember my initial training and all the confidence I had in myself and my fellow troops after I completed weeks of training. It was a definite rite of passage for myself and Im sure for countless others. I had a great 3 years to look forward to wearing the uniform.
haha Im a canadian, but Im seriously thinking of going to the States and becoming a citizen just so I can join the Marines... been talking to a recruiter about it and everything... Liked the vid
wat company is he in?? i was in 3rd batalion wen i went through MCRD Parris Island, with Mike Company.
as for the whole is it hard in the army question.
well im not in the army, im a united states marine. and yes there are times when it is very hard mentally and physically, but... the corps has provided me so far with so many oportunities that NOBODY back home woulda ever done. I cant even try and regret a single second of it.
It is true freedom, the most rewarding lifestyle any man or woman could choose. Civilians see it as restrictive, but it's not. It's amazing. You go to places people only dream of. You do things people can't dream of. You get paid to do it. The benefits are awesome. The women adore you. It's something to really be proud of, whether you're a Marine, Soldier, Sailor, Airman, or Coastguardsman. You will be hard-pressed to ever find someone who regrets the choice.
Former Soldier, short-term. Regretting every second I'm not with my brothers in Iraq. Two of them from my BCT/AIT platoon are dead. I'm busting ass hard for a waiver to go back in, Marine Corps this time. In their words: "It ain't gonna be easy. But if you wanna put in the effort, it can be done. Is it worth it? Hell yeah it is!"
MCRD is Marine Corps Recruit Depot. Every enlisted Marine goes to either MCRD San Diego or MCRD Parris Island. This is the only route for enlisted to become U.S. Marines. What platton was your brother in?
Well if it was "A coward dies a thousand deaths, a Marine dies but once" it would count for Marines. Bottom line is Marines are not soldiers. Lol, and why are we even going in depth with this?
i join next year, and i will be goin to parris island, south carolina. i believe that joining will be the most smartest move of my life and most honorable. right now im in NJROTC in church hill, TN. my 1st SGT is my biggest influence and i hope to make my family proud. OOH RA!!!!!
I graduated in Feb 0f 04; and I can tell you that after 13 weeks of isolation less letters; family day which is the day before graduation is amazing. I will never forget it, or my time on the island. As ironic as it might sound; my time there was some of the best of my life.

That was remarkably, incredibly well done. I can honestly say that Family Day and Graduation Day on Parris Island remain to be some of the happiest days of my life. That really captures the feelings I think all new Marines have leaving the Island. Amazing.
Out...STANDING, Marines! For those who've been there and done that (Platoon 224, MCRD PISC, 1965), a drop of Chesty's blood flows through our viens. God speed you both past harm's way. Te salutimus.
Wow! We were just there 1 month ago. Our oldest son graduated from Parris Island on April 27. This is exactly how I remember the two wonderful days. Very proud moments for the family. SEMPER FI!
Brought back a ton a memories...I stood on those yellow footprints on Parris Island in 1985. I was recently medically discharged and retired from the Corps after 22 years. I was a Captain in the Force Recon. I spent my first 12 years enlisted...made it to MSGT. I Mustanged in 1997. I was blown up by insurgents in Iraq. I lost both legs; however my spirit has not left me. Semper Fi do or die!!!! I did two tours in Afganistan and was starting my fourth tour in Iraq. SEMPER FI!!!!
SEMPER FI Marine, I was medically discharged last year and I miss the hell outta the Corp. I wish I could go back in. You're a true freakin warrior, OOHRAH! Kill
nice video, it was good to see it my Marine is a master sgt already but he started at the bottom too. he is being deployed back to iraq again and just checking out some Marine videos, loved the song God bless all our troops
I STAY DOWN FOR MY MARINE AND MY MARINE STAYS DOWN FOR HIS COUNTRY<3 SEMPER FI
Very nice video, cried the whole way thru, brought back many memories of that cold day on Oct. 28th, 2005 when my son joined the United States Marine's. Thanks for sharing and good luck to you and your Marine's. OOH RAH!

Did I see a woman DI in that video? Are they training the men now?
macreamoinn 4 years ago
yes, there are female DIs but they only train the women
socceresque 4 years ago
That was always the case, but look at the video, there is a dark green woman DI running alongside the platoon.
macreamoinn 4 years ago
They only run with the men for the Moto Run, other then that they do not train the male Marines.

Ahh the Marine Corps sucks. Cold, wet, tired, dirty, depressed and hungry. Freedom , individuality and youth are horrible things to waste.

Very nice video, cried the whole way thru, brought back many memories of that cold day on Oct. 28th, 2005 when my son joined the United States Marine's. Thanks for sharing and good luck to you and your Marine's. OOH RAH!
