This music is turning me into a homosexual, I'm listening to it for some inspiration for a song I want to write for my girlfriend, she likes this kinda basic music. It does sound good though :)
it's such a brilliant song, like many of bishop allen stuff! I've never heard the battle between the merrimack and the monitor described in such a wonderfully poetic way.
Bishop Allen is going to be making an appearance on the new web series "Rockville, CA" on TheWB - premiers March 17th. More information about the show can be accessed here: thewb(dot)com/shows/rockville- ca/
this song rocks! i think they have awesome lyrics, me being a hobby history-buff. I love any musician who references the library of alexandria! (different song, i know...)
I love this song. It inspired me to read all about ironclads and how naval tactics and ship construction changed because of them. The battle between the Monitor and the Virginia didn't affect the rest of the world much as they've already had ironclads in service when they fought. Either way, I absolutely love this song.
hmmmmm... i wonder, do any of you know that they're singing about a famous civil war naval battle? the first time iron clad ships were used in a naval battle.
I think the band is from Brooklyn, and the USS Monitor was indeed build "at the end of the street" (now named Monitor St.) in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. A nearby park has a monument to the battle and may even have a piece of the boat. I used to live on Monitor St. and I got really interested in the battle because of that. This song reminds me of living there and being fascinated by the history. It makes me happy that some kids in an NYC band from there also found the local history inspiring.
LOVELY ROBOTEQUE!
