  • Maybe she got some of her facts wrong, but she had a point. Disney (in the present) may not be racist now, but they're sending the wrong message about life in their shows.

i'm glad i'm just able to see disney sucks! (i'm 12)

  • @zoesy27 ok, fair enough it's ur opinion. but it's very easy to say everything sucks. so what is ur suggestion? please, give us some examples of the cartoons or shows that do not a 'offend' a single group and reflect life as it is today?

  • You know what... i am fucking tired of this stupid Disney=racist=sexism bullshit!

I was raised on disney cartoons! and I didn't turn out to be a timid housewife suppressed by men or a racist asshole. If you are just this kind of a sad person, you will find dirt in everything!

So i am going to make sure when i have kids, thy will grow up on Disney cartoons, and you all, who agree with this clip, raise your kids on Hannah Montana, Gossip girl and Jersey Shore!

let's see how that'll turn out!

  • @nastik1987 I'm 12 and I think Disney was racist & sexist to begin with :p fuck the shows you mentioned

  • alladin and jasmine do not look american or white! they are obviously made to look prettier than Jafar.

what annoys me the most - FUCKING GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT, if you dare accuse someone in racism!

1.Scar is voiced by a white british actor Jeremy Irons, while Mufasa and his wife are both voiced by black actors.

    2. there is only one hyena voiced by a black woman (Woopie Goldberg), the other 2 are white and latin!

Seriously, you just love saying ignorant shit to insult who ever u want!

  • The Disney girls make toddlers feel bad about their appearance, which is what I hate most about Disney. They make them look so perfect, with flawless faces and ridiculously skinny waists, the princes are also tall and handsome. Where as the villains are ugly or overweight.

Walt Disney was in fact a Nazi sympathiser, although he did not support the party, he agreed with some of their policies and vocalised his hatred of the Jews.

  • @haggismone not every villain is ugly and overweight in disney. How do you come to this? oO

let's start with the queen in snow white. she is undoubtedly a beauty. malefiz of sleeping beauty is neither overweight nor ugly. gaston from beauty and the beast is, at least his apperiance, a fine man. and in atlantis, well the woman with her blond and long hair was also a beauty. and the newest proof is mother gothel from rapunzel.

Now tell me: How do you come to your conclusions? :)

  • Scar is played by a white dude......

  • Belle was well read, independent and was willing to LOOK PAST the outside to find what was underneath? A perfectly good role model if you ask me. Like many have said, the Lion King is based on Hamlet and is also pretty correct as far as real lion's prides work as well. As for the voice artists, isn't it about what they sound like not what they look like? Maybe those people happened to have the best voices to fit the characters? And isn't James Earl Jones, the voice of Mufasa, African-American?

  • Belle's message was, ignore the outside looks, you may find a person deeper underneath. Also, with a little love and affection someone that first appears to be horrible may turn out to surprise you. In other words, don't judge a book by it's cover. The racist one is so ridiculous i'm not even touching it. And the lion king is based on Hamlet, a shakespearean tale, not about the lionesses being weak. It focuses on a young hero reclaiming his father's land from an evil uncle. Don't be so cynical.

  • On the contrary i noticed many of those things, but i saw them in a different light to you. The 'happy housewives' comment is ridiculous, Cinderella and Snow White and Sleeping Beauty were all incredibly lonely and unhappy. The message is actually, things are bad now, but eventually they'll be better and you'll feel like a princess.

Ariel's message was, giving up everything never works out and relying on 'black market' methods will only get you in trouble, trust your family to reach your dreams.

  • Ariel, lives like an hour from Atlantis by boat, she probably visits. And she's 16. Kinda of an important part when you take into consideration her over-protective father. Maybe it's cause I had teenage sisters when I watched it as a child but I found it was pretty dead on to how teenagers behaved. You scream at them that they can't do something without giving a reason why, they're going to do it. And they will do it in the stupidest way possible. And btw. Princess/Queen doesn't = housewife.

  • Forgot to say, with The Lion King, it never crossed my mind that the lionesses had to have a male rescue them, the way I see it is that the story was about Simba and how excited he was as a cub to be king one day, so of course he was always gonna comes back. The movie would have been weird if the main character disappeared when Scar told him to and then never to be seen or heard of again.

  • I'm so glad I don't see the films the way you do, as others have said some of the Disney girls are very strong and are played out as heros. Also Scar was voiced by Jeremy Irons who as far as I know is white. Mufassa was voiced by a black man and I don't know what your point is in showing the Dumbo crows and other pics and calling it racism, if anything the people that look at it they way you do are the ones being racist. You should just sit back, relax and enjoy the movies for what they are :)

  • It seems you have forgotten some important Disney women. Mulan a Chinese woman who despite being a woman saved her country, Pocahontis a Native American woman who was a very strong character, Tiana a Black Princess who was intelligent and Jane from Tarzan who was also an intelligent woman who taught Tarzan how to speak English. There are great Disney characters who are role models for young girls. As for the movies made in the 1950s, at that time, women were taught to be homemakers.

  • Dude, could you just never make another movie? Please? The stupidity of your "Disney teaching evil" is just so flawed. And if you do make another movie: stay away from trying to enlighten people because you suck at it.

  • First of all Scar is voiced by Jeromy Iromes who is WHITE! And also Aladin is an Arab and there are lighter skined Arabs in the world,so its not toitaly racist.

  • oh and anyways.... scar was played by jeremy irons:white and zazu by Rowan atkinson. again white. get your facts right.

  • ...i have to say this. The guys r supposed to be hero's and save the girl when she can't fight anymore. It's a fairytale for little girls. They learn to look for a prince charming who would be willing to save her. Theres nothing really wrong about the characters (other then some of ariels issues), ur focusing on the parts u dont like. Its only a kids movie. Like u said disney isnt trying to offened anyone.

  • And not all the Lionesses are weak, Zira managed to keep her pride alive and well despite being thrown into exile and left without a male leader,Scar. She also led an attack against Zimba and his pride.

  • Scar is voiced by Jeremy Irons... he's pretty white

  • ... isn't Mufasa (Simba's dad) played by James Earl Jones?... he's black.

  • WHAT ABOUT MULAN!

  • Please, find a new hobby other than breaking little girls dreams....... sorry, but tire dude.

  • if i can point out, Scar was voiced by Jeremy Irons(The Borgias) a White actor.

  • NO the thing about beauty and the beast was that the beast was never abusive although rude and short tempered belle knew all he had was empty threats

  • @animesoulstar You are correct, Sir. ANd let us not forget Gaston was the abusive one.

  • All of it is based off of fairy tales, which took place in medieval times when all women were supposed to be submissive and such, and they only way to advance your status if you were not of high birth, was through a man. In addition, the films were made decades ago, before the whole feminism thing came into being

  • if i dont re call wrongly, mufasa was voiced by a black actor, that guy from the prince of zamunda with eddie murphy , his dad... i dont know his name.

  • @almasdp Your not wrong Mufasa was voiced by James Earl Jones, the voice of darth vader. and scar was voiced by Jeremy Irons. who was white. I think the maker of the video needs to get their facts right.

  • Actually one of the hyenas is voiced by a Spanish guy.

  • Ps, im a girl. But I dont care about movies I stopped watching when I turned 8 anymore. Grow up and stop ruining movies for little kids.

  • honestly, who gives a fuck if the women are independent? These movies are for little girls, not grown men and woman. Who cares about who does the voice overs? You said no racism, but your making it a big deal, even though know one is calling black people the n word, no one call Jafar or whatever a terrorist. Who gives a flying crap? All it was made for was to show little girls and boys their dreams can come true.

  • Most of the stories take place in medieval, fantasy settings. Thus the portrayal of the submissive, house-wife woman is accurate most of the time. That's how women were expected to behave. Women that went against the grain were generally not treated very well by the rest of society.

  • Scar was voiced by Jeremy Irons who is WHITE.

I get what you mean, though. Another very good example of racism in Disney films is the entire Indian scene in Peter Pan.

  • One more thing. You will ALWAYS find something negative if you analyze it too closely. They are just movies. Made for the sole purpose of entertainment. They were not made to show children how to live their lives.

  • Most of the early princesses were that way because those movies were made in 30s -50s. The Princesses that came later are more feministic. There are many pros to the princesses as there are cons. Just show your children which they are. Also Disney didn't come up with the fairy tales. If anything they improved them.

  • Let me just say, this is ridiculous. The early Disney princesses:Snow White, Briar Rose, Cinderella were a bit tame, I know, but that was because it was the 30's and 50's.

Not all Disney Girls were like that. Many teach lessons:

Belle- try to see the good in people

Jasmine- Your parents want the best for you, but learn also to make your own decisions

Mulan- Defend yourself with HONOR and never say no.

Tiana- Work hard for what you want

Esmeralda-don't judge by looks. and stand up for yourself

  • And?

  • Rafiki, the wise character in the Lion King is also played by a black man

  • Just one little note here... Scar is voiced by Jeremy Irons, who is NOT a black man, but white man from England... thank you! :)

  • Also notice how the lioness that ends up with Simba (Nala) has crystal blue eyes, when lions usually have brown eyes. I always notice how they usually make the good characters with light blue or bright green eyes even when they're animals that never have that eye color.

And, you know, I didn't see anything racist about Aladdin, he looks Arabic to me and always have.

  • correction in the lion king Scar was voiced by Jeremy Irons (white man) Mufasa James Earl Jones (African American) an and Rafiki Robert Guillaume (African American) please explain how this is racist at all

  • Epic Fail: Jeremy Irons (Scar) is white.

  • best disney princess ever:mulan she saved fucking china

  • Hercule should not be on this list he did not save the girl the girl save his dum but fist

  • @blackgriffinxx True. They both save each other.

  • well yes, ur right most of the time, but i must say that only thing that i really learn from disney was "one only true love" idea, and i really belived it until 16y old, then i broke up with my first bf and it reallu sucked that the idea wasn't true. rest i learned from parents and sociaty

  • Last time I checked James Earl Jones wasn't whitest person out there...

  • Um, Honestly? The Lion king bit? The male Lions /do/ run the pride. The Lionesses even hang back and wait to /eat/ until after the males do, while the males sleep all day. Disney was pretty spot-on with that one.

  • "the Lion King the movie is set in Africa, however all the hero's are voiced by white people, and the hyenas and scar are voiced by black people"

Mufasa (Hero) - James Earl Jones = BLACK

Nala (Heroine) - Niketa Calame = BLACK

Rafiki (Hero) - Robert Guillaume = BLACK

Scar (Villain) Jeremy Irons = WHITE

Ed (Villain Hyena) Jim Cummings = WHITE

God do some research before you start spewing racist comments >>

  • @XxTDvLxX I AGREE WITH YOU 10,000% HIGH FIVE

  • Stupid!

"Simba's saving the Lions? - sexism! Let's call it "The Lion Queens" Sarabi & the other girls beat up Scar shortly after Mufasa's death - Simba didn't have to come back and the movie took only 40 minutes. Bad black crows - racist! - let's draw 'em white (they're albinos - oh, that might be discriminating the albinos!) And of course the prince had to leave everything behind to marry Ariel... during the wedding he drowned in Triton's palace."

Exaggerating but you might get the point!

  • ist scar voiced by jeremy irons... white, scottich, guy :P But still, i see the connection :P

  • You lost me on the Lion King. Scar was voiced by Jeremy Irons and Mufasa, as said before, by James Earl Jones. Shenzi was the only hyena to have a black voice actor.

  • disney movies are without doubt one of the most blatant procurers of gender and racial sterotypes there is they portray gender ideologies that practically train girls into dependency whilst simultaneously undermining racial and cultural groups in a manner which exentuates Disney’s ethnocentricity.and yes i know some people dismiss this as merely transparent entertainment but one must consider the larger societal ramifications of such blatant sterotyping.

  • @94clairy and whilst i agree it is neither fare nor appropriate to criticise films made in the 1930s for being sexist people dont realise that these ideologies are being further perpetuated throughout disney films. take for instance mulan seemingly far more autonomous then her conservative predecessors yet in one of the final scenes of the movie the grandmother says

"great she brings home a swore if you ask me she should have brought hime a man."

  • @94clairy i meant sword sorry

  • @94clairy further more disney thought it was being especially progressive in the depiction of an african american princess but such progression is undermined in the very first minutes of the film in which Eudora, Tianas mother says, “Your Daddy may not have gotten the place you always wanted but he had something better. He had love. And that's all I want for you, sweetheart. To meet your prince charming and dance off into your happily ever after” .

  • @94clairy thus the cycle of dependency that was once portrayed in the 1930s is again perpetuated in 2009 .

  • at "2:24" all the famale lions are alone.. pause it and look right above nahla and Sarabi, doesnt that look like a male lion "simba or mufasa" watching over them? I don't know if anyone else noticed that .... reply back and tell me if someone else caught that too !!!

  • @Mchuuung oh yea i see whatcha mean

  • this person has never watched mulan & enchanted

  • The lion king is a bad example of women needing a male savior because it was based off of Shakespeare's Hamlet, in which the girls do not kill the evil king.

  • Omg its fricken disney y do some people have to take everythong whong and personally.

  • So, there's a few things wrong with this. Lion King for example. A lion does not grow by years, but by months, therefore, Simba was gone for months, not years. The only ones that took years most likely (even though Disney didn't portray it) were Sleeping Beauty and Snow White. Belle was never attacked, but the beast was never abusive. He had changed after the years he had been a beast. And a lot of girls would react the way Belle did. And I would explain much more, but I am out of space here.

  • There's undeniably unfair portrayal of women (and many other issues) in Disney, but you're not quite going about presenting it, right. You can hardly take a movie from the 50's and say, "look at how sexist this is, shame on them" when that was just the norm. It's fine for children to watch it, but it's the parents' job to explain to children the rights and wrongs, just like any other media. You can hardly blame a company for presenting the world as it was during that time.

  • @tetsuyayamatashi i agree with you that we can not impose our societal expectations upon another time it is neither fair nor appropriate to dismiss these films as racist or sexist just because we expect that kind if impartial portrayal today. but to not question the beliefs that make up a society is a type of regressive thinking. people don't realise that these stereotypes are being perpetuated just hidden behind a veil of autonomy

  • Okay, I get that these movies are old fashioned, but what's wrong with being married? And while I don't want to be a housewife, I don't think it is any of my business to tell other women what to do. Actually, my Mom worked a lot and my Dad's job allowed him to stay home with me a lot. No one give him crap because he's a man working from home with the kids.

  • @AE901213 Well, sometimes they did. Usually old people "why isn't your wife taking care of the kids?" idiots.

  • Also, people are dirty and need to learn how to clean. I don't wanna see less women cleaning, I wanna see more men in on the action.

  • about Disney's heroines being "happy housewives": Cinderella's forced to do it and later marries a prince. Snow White and Aurora both help with house work while they're in hiding and later return to their lives as princesses.

As for Ariel, would you have preferred to show little children the original ending with her losing her old life, her love and her life?

As for Lion King it's what happens in real life. A new male often kills the cubs of the privious male. Disney's portrayal was rather tame

  • Come on, you have never seen what happens in a herd of lions? The females accept the strong male/males who take over the flock! it is not rasitsikt or similar to the females in the lion king when they was waiting for Simba

  • ...seriously get over it i never even thought of it like thins from childhood to now. they're freaking fairytales for kids. sure some people might be offended, but they need to get over it it's JUST a simple kid's movie

  • Ever heard of the saying Beware of Greeks bearing Gifts. for those who think Disney is so innocent.

  • Wonder what Disney would do to the few classic fairytale heroines who originally were rather feminist for their time. Vasilisa the Beautiful, for example, does still marry a prince, but works hard to achieve her own goals, and didn't sit and wait for a prince, like say, Snow White or Briar Rose.

Gah, I probably shouldn't have said that. Now Disney's going to pick up the idea, make Vasilisa a "nicer" more helpless Western European character, and turn the evil characters into Russian stereotypes.

  • @Aburagae i'm sorry but who is Vasilisa?

  • @ololo518 Vasilisa is a character from the Russian fairytale "Vasilisa the Beautiful". Like Cinderella, she was tormented by a wicked stepmother and stepsisters, but was always helped by her talking doll, which was given to her as a blessing from her mother before she died. She ends up outwitting Baba Yaga (a classic witch/fairy figure from Russian folklore), defeating her stepmother and sisters, making a talent out of sewing and weaving, and then impressing and marrying the tsar.

  • Isn't it more racist to say its not acceptable for black people to play baddies?Thought whoopi goldberg kicked ass at voicing that hyena. I can't actually tell what colour someone is from their voice anyway so even if all the baddies were voiced by non white people then it wouldn't make a jot of difference. The movies you have legitimate issues with are from the 1930s - 50s, some earlier than that, so of course things are bound to be a tad backwards where women and race are concerned.

  • Uh excuse me but, James Earl Jones voices Mufasa, the most awesome king of all time.

  • @katief8 Yeah, this pretty much renders your race argument unreliable.

  • Scar was voiced by Jeremy iron- White

Muffasa was voiced by James Earl Jones- Black

I agree that there is racism with Disney but you got that fact wrong

  • But in Disney's film, snow white sleeps in a separate room from the seven dwarves.

  • A lot of people make things out to be sexist or racist when that wasn't the purpose of the film. A lot of these stories came from old fairytales told way back in history and from different cultures. For example, the earliest story of Cinderella came from China. Also a lot of these stories were in way worse context back then, and Disney has improved many of them to be more suitable for children today. In example, in the first story of snow white, snow white was meant to be a prostitute, but in t

  • TAR BABY????????? I AM SOOOOOOOOOOO OFFENDED. I NEVR LYKD DISNEY, BUT NW DISNEY KAN KISS MI PHAT BLAK ASS.

  • I have a feeling that everything offends you. When you look for offensive stuff you can make anything offensive. Stop it.

  • Scar = Jeremy Irons (white)

Mufasa = James Earl jones (dark)

  • Amazingly Mufasa in Lion King (one of the "heroes") is voiced by a black man. Scar (one of the "villains") is voiced by a white man....

  • whats wrong about bein rescued by a man? its a classic story, a women needs a man, and a man needs a women, men are typacly stronger, but women are there for phyciological resons, for love, tlk about feelings, and im sorry, but, women are also the brains, im not tryin to offend... im not sayin guys are dumb, but id say women are juss a teeny weeny bit smarter on average

  • What's wrong with being a house wife?

  • Scar is not voiced by a black person! Scar is voiced by Jeremy Irons!

  • These movies teach lessons; Aladdin-never give up, you'll be in trouble when you lie, (Jasmin) you have the right to your own choices. Cinderella-no matter how hard it seems you can make it. Snow White- love is wonderful, whistle while you work= do your chores. Beauty and the Beast- there's good in every one. Hercules- be careful who you deal with, fame isn't everything. Lion King- you can redem yourself, (Plus they studied real lions for this, so i'm sure its pretty accurate)

  • To be perfectly honest, I think the lionesses(Especially Nala) could totally kick Scar's ass. The female lionesses do the hunting, you know. The male lions only fight for dominance(to become the "king"). I think they should have more heroines like Pochahantas(sp?). She's awesome and a great role model. But, this time, I want her to get with hero. I don't want a crappy sequel just so they could pair the heroine up with a random guy(ex:Pochahantas 2).

  • @xXxSnowXAblazexXx Actually historically she did marry John Ralph. My half brother is descended from her. She died of small pox in England I believe.

  • Having watched and loves Disney movies all my life and now being in my middle 20s I don't think kids got any ideas of supresssion from watching Disney movies.

Aladdin- don't go for the man who is rich go for a man you love and loves you

Little Mermaid- follow your dreams no matter who tells you they are silly

Mulan- its okay to not want to be just a house wife and if you want more you can be more

The Lion King- Nala left to help and protect her family

Its all how you look at it.

  • Oh, and for the record:

Scar = Jeremy Irons, a white man

Mufasa = James Earl Jones, a black man.

    Just saying.

  • @lCENSOREDI You have a good point, oh and for the record Simba's mother Sarabi is voiced by Madge Sinclair, a black woman. Do not believe watch the Eddie Murphy movie Coming to America where she plays Murphy's mother and Jones' wife.

  • For the record, Disney was a very racist and bigoted man. It may have come through in some early works before he died.

On the whole, though, I believe it came through in the ABSENCE of race, not through its portrayal.

  • What is wrong with Pocohontas? I love that movie...is it because they weren't wearing the right clothes? because if that's the only reason...meh.

And look for some women, getting married and having kids is what they want, you can't say that their ideas are wrong because you think it is. In more modern Disney it works on more modern POVs.

You have to look at the era it was made, and you need to do more research becase with The Lion King, you were so off your facts it wasn't funny.

  • Comment removed

  • Just want to point out that lions have a patriarchal society. Prides don't get a new male lion until one comes in and either drives off or kills the old one. The new one then kills all the old male lions cubs and drives out any older cubs he can't kill. Disney's portrayal of the lionesses not doing anything about this is true to wild lionesses behaviour, but not as blunt.

  • First of all, Beauty & the Beast is not about abuse. It's about finding the inner beauty in people. Aladdin is barely, if at all, lighter than Jafar. He was under a light in the picture you showed. Only one of the hyena's is voiced by a black person. Scar isn't black, but Mufasa & Rafiki are. Nothing you said is backed up by fact. Your a disgrace to investagive journalisim. Most of these are retellings of classic Middle Age stories. Damsels in destress definded the era. Get a close lady.

  • Ariel ALWAYS wanted to join the humans, she was obsessed with them for years before she ever saw Prince Eric.

Belle didn't fall for the beast until after he had changed-not before.

And Nala beat Simba every time they played by out-smarting him and flipping him to pin him. Simba used HER great move to beat Scar.

You say Meg was weak and had to wait to be saved-the only reason he had to save her soul was because she died saving his life.

You made some good points, but this isn't A worthy.

  • dude....calm down about disney.

Its fine.Ive loved all these films. And im young [very] my fav movies are some of these! So when ur critisizing those movies ur critizing me. ok? so just calm!!!

  • @ty10jess That's how they get you... they make you love them so you ignore what is wrong with their movies. I'e always loved disney too, but it is always important to examine media that consumes young minds.

  • How much of this did you get from Kathy Maio :P

  • You do realize that some Disney films were made in the 40s-50s, so there's bound to be racist material. And durint that time, people didn't see much wrong with that. Sad, but true. That's just the way it was, but Disney has obviously grown past that.

  • You must've forgotten Mulan: girl who doesn't fit in and dresses like a guy. Doesn't listen to what she's told, speaks out of turn, is tough. When people complained about Tiana from Frog Princess being a slave in the original story they changed it despite Snow White, Cinderella and Rappunzel being enslaved as well. Lion King Characters' Voices: Young Nala: Black - Scar: White - Rafiki: Black - Ed: White - Mufasa: Black. Also look up Lebo M. I hate Disney, BTW. You just need to do your homework.

  • @ApathyofHeart I like some of your points here. But remember it's important to look at more than one or two films when judging Disney-who has made so many films.

And I agree the maker of this video didn't put very much thought out effort into it.

  • @Ekly88 Although I highly agree that Disney has problems. Despite it's few movies that I like, for the most part I am against the company. (My biggest issue was with Pocahontas, but that's because my family are descendants of the Powhatan tribe and... yeah.. we know things about it) But I believe Disney has in ways tried to make changes to be as P.C. as possible. Resulting in the unfortunate mutilation of classic literature and even history.

  • @ApathyofHeart Yeah, I heard Pocahontas' design was based on seven different super models, none of them native american.

Mulan and The Princess and the Frog showed good development to me. They made women look stronger than they usually do, and Prince Naveen is one of the more developed romantic interests in Disney movies.

I'm curious as to which movies you think of as P.C. that are so bad for history. Though Mulan might be one I suppose, but I cant be sure.

  • @Ekly88 seriously? I didn't know about that. They also got the native dress of the Powhatan tribe wrong. The Disney Pocahontas is historically inaccurate. The classic novel Tarzan was butchered in the name of political correctness, granted it would've been scary had they stuck to the real story. By mutilating literature of the past, you destroy history. Even if they are fictional, novels show insight into the thoughts of that generation. If they wanted to make ORIGINAL P.C. stories, I'd support.

  • @Ekly88 Oh, and.. Mulan actually stuck pretty close to the original story and it's original moral. Making it one of my favorite Disney movies...

  • James Earl Jones, black actor, voices Mufasa.

Madge Sinclair, black actress, voices Sarabi.

Jeremy Irons, white actor, voices Scar.

    You have it backwards.

  • I guess the moral is that Ariel did everything to achieve her dream, Belle learned the beast that you should be nice and polite to the world outside, and Yasmin made her own choice to go with Alladdin in stead of some prince. To me those things are right things to show little girls.

  • oh, you made my Ariel look bad :( i can see what you're trying to say but... these are MOVIES. this is what i grew up with and i'm pretty sure you grew up with these movies too. now tell me, when u were.. 5 did you ever go "wow their housewives!" or "wow Ariel gave up everything to be with Erick!". i think NOT. seriously, there movies that come from the magic of disney. live a little and don't stress about it! ♥

  • @XxPrincessAriel You don't even have the grammar skills of a fourth grader-I don't think your opinion about what can or can not be harmful to the psychological development of young children is too valid.

  • @Ekly88 it's an opinion and i respect your opinion. i agree that when you think about it and the REAL messages hidden in disney movies, well there not the best messages. BUT all i'm saying is that disney excists to make kids happy. even if i'm not a kid it still makes me happy. and thats it. i'm not hating or whatever. about the grammar skills... i'm not even gonna comment on that. i write like this because it's youtube not an essay. but again, i FULLY respect you!

  • @XxPrincessAriel You are quite nice...I agree with you on alot of this... but if someone was so rud eto point out grammar mistakes...well, I WOULDN'T respect them... ;) <3

  • @ArdenRaine haha thankyou, atleast theres some people on youtube who don't comment rudely to tell you to tell you, you did or said something wrong. anywho grammar again.. well, what can i say? haha. again, thankyou and have a .... disney-magical day(:

  • @Ekly88Children, the main audience for these, don't understand the full complexity of these stories. The accent thing, well, when I was little I associated good guys with the nicer voices, bad guys with different voices. Also i want to say, as an actor, that a lot of the time an accent makes the character, it's not racist it's just building a character background and whatnot. If the voice actors hired for these jobs were as offended as a lotof people here seem to be, they would not have done it.

  • Hans Christian Anderson is racist, he wrote most of the stories that Disney made into movies.

  • @kaizerXL He only wrote the little mermaid. You can hardly call that most of the stories. And why do you say he is a racist? (that would be WAS a racist since he is dead) Well he lived in the 19´th century, everyone was a little racist. But I certanly don't see refrences to racism in any of his fairytales.

  • I think Disney movies sends a good message to both boys and girls allowing them to actually BE different. I do not at all think women in Disney films are in any way weak or suppressed. That´s nonsence! Disney send a helthy message of the relation between a man and a woman in a worl where moral is not what it use to be. Do not destroy one of the only good and innocent things left for children to grow up with by letting out this "politicly correct" bullshit. I'm really sick of it!

  • @Malthasketch And what about the movie Snow White encourages kids to be different? As far as I can see it teaches the same stale morals our grandparents try to teach.

You don't think Cinderella was suppressed as a servant to the wicked step mother? You think it's a good moral that two people fell in love and got married after a single dance while never having had ONE conversation to see if they actually liked each other as people? Doesn't sound too healthy to me.

  • @Ekly88 Well, if that does'nt seem healthy to you I'm really glad you don't get to raise my children! And may I ask what is so wrong with morals our grandparents try to teach? It seems to me they're on to something.

And about Cinderella, Do you honestly believe that Disney wantet kids to think that it was OK for the stepmother to treat Cinderella like that? Did I totally misunderstand the movie? I thougt that it was about Cinderella BREAKING FREE from her role as a worthless house maid. My bad.

  • @Malthasketch Because she had to wait to be saved! The most defiant thing Cinderella ever did was make that dress. But because she was a woman she had to wait for magic and a man to get away from her step-mother.

I don't know about you, but my grandparents were racist and sexist. My grandmother never learned how to drive because she just relied on her husband. She was also a lush that died in her early sixties because she consumed more alcohol than food. Old doesn't always mean wise.

  • Aladdin is darker than Jafar lol. Scar is voiced by a white dude, and the "hero of the movie, Mufasa, is voiced by a black dude. I know this was for an assignment but you may wanna check your info a bit harder next time. A good stereotype to point out is that almost all disney villains are british :D

  • shut up dam its just cartoon damn ur fucking dum saying that lil girls might go to brats so u rether her to be tout to be a kind pirncess or a slut :D

  • you know if you look closely you can find some kind of offensive material in nearly all cinema but you should usually look past that to find the morals and values of the story. also a lot of the early stereotypes were acceptable back then and you must remember that the movies that involve princesses are not far off from real life, i mean its not like royalty have a hard working lifestyle

  • What about Mulan and Kida?

  • All this politically correct bullshit is why we have such crap coming out of Disney now.

  • Scar was voiced by Jeremy Irons...a white British guy. One of the hyenas was voiced by Cheech Marin. Mufasa was voiced by that cool guy who plays Akeem's father in Coming to America, and Sarabi was voiced by his wife, who are both African American. Nearly this whole video is abominably incorrect.

  • Im sorry but your very infuriating! These movies bring smiles and fond memories to people of all ages. Do you think people are really gonna waste their time getting all fussy about the little details in movies? I mean yes some things maybe racist, but they were definitely not intended. If it were intended than disney would never get away with that stuff. Im sorry if I sound like a bitch but some things are just ridiculous. Thats all Im saying!

  • Musfaa sSimba's father is a a black actor,

  • I'm sorry but it seems like the only way a woman can become a strong role model is to become an abusive chauvinistic male in a female body.

There is more to strength than that.

  • @Xannith yes thank you! someone who is talking sense!

  • i didn't c Ariel as a damsel in distress at all actually. she was the first disney princess who rescued her prince and SHE judged Eric by beauty, not the other way around :P and i was SO gonna go on about the lion king but my fellow disney lovers have already done that 4 me :) <3

  • I'm just cuious... why is it racist to feature African American characters in Disney movies? The crows in dumbo where "racist stereotypes"...?? Because they talked like they were African American? And they were black? Why is it okay to depict hillbillies and brits with their slang and accents, but not people of color? And the person who lend his voice to scar was not black! It was Jeremy Irons! A very white man!

  • @dead9788 the reason why its racist the ways that Disney portrayed African Americans in their films because they are enforcing negative stereotypes about black people that are damaging. And that doesn't mean that its ok to depict hillbillies or brits in other negative stereotypical manners. Disney is infamously known for its racist and sexism however they have enough money that any charges that are brought up r quickly diminished.

  • @dead9788 The most dangerous thing about the messages they are sending to children is the subliminal messages of racism, sexism and eurocentrism that these young children are absorbing so when they do grow up they won't even notice how brain washed they really are.

  • woo, just to clarify on Lion, yes Simba was white, but Scar was as well Jeremy Irons, and hello! Black good guy voices-Mufasa, youmg Nala, Sarabi(simba's mom) Rafiki..need I say more..oh the hyens-black, latino, and white

  • HEY!! I'm an arab. What exactly are we supposed to sound like? Did you expect us all to be the same color brown?! What would you suggest as his nickname!!? My real name starts with Al, which is my nickname, its easy! Even if Aladdin is lighter skinned, nobody matches exactly! The characters in a movie don't have accents because they were made for American children! Translations would be easy for other nations to understand, and therefore have the nationality's accent!

  • @ArdenRaine The bad guys tended to have more of an accent...

  • let me corect you on 1:58 mufasa was voiced by a black guy.

  • @ 01:37 Aladdin looks 'darker' then Jafar.

  • The 2 new princesses are independent Tiana has 2 jobs and Rapunsel (sorry for the spelling) is more of a tomboy than anything she can fight with her hair that's awesome!! Lol

  • @monkeyrock98 A lot of black ppl need two jobs because they can't get into higher positions cuz of racist assumptions made by employers. Stereotype! lol

  • @monkeyrock98 Rapunzel is also needy, indecisive and can't stand up to her "mom" at all. She was kind of pathetic...

  • @Ekly88 Rapunzel wasn't indecisive, she was human. Anyone raised in those circumstances would have been uncertain about rebelling. But she took the initiative and chose to leave, and she DID stand up to her mother, on her own. It took her a while - but you gotta have conflict, or else there's no story. If she'd been strong enough from the beginning, what would the story have been about?

  • the voice of scar is Jeremy Irons and he is white, and im pretty sure that at least one of the voices of the hyenas is white too. and as for the heroes - mufasa is voiced by James Earl Jones who is black and so is Niketa Calame who is the voice of young nala :)

this is a very good and interresting video, however it is quite important to have your facts straight if you are makeing any accusations. :) just saying

  • of the hyenas is voice by Woobie Goldberg

  • I guess disney movies show that woman must be evil to be powerful.. and still she does'nt reach the "man power" stuff.. But hey, I'm just a stupid teenager so don't blame me! xD

  • Excuse me? They've changed by leaps and bounds! Jasmine escaped the confines of the walls of the palace for freedom, Belle didn't care what people thought of her, Ariel dared to go to the surface world, Mulan fought to be treated as a warrior, Tiana worked for her own restraunt, refusing to wait around for a man. Disney Princesses have become stronger and more independent the more recent they are!

  • actually, both jafar and scar are british. Still, not American, but also 'white'. And the picture chosen from Aladdin was when there was a bright white light shining towards him. I think he looks just as Arabic as Jafar!

  • "Disney's characters are all housewives - this does not give a good message to young girls" ->

conclusion: being a housewife is a bad thing.

Automatic thumbs down for this intro.

  • I think that kids don' t take notice to the stereotypes. They concentrate on the story and the message. I've always watched Disney films and I didn't pay any attention to the the role of women. Just wanted to be a princess :)
