Sardar Malik was Anu Malik's father and married to Hasrat Jaipuri's sister. He sure knew REAL Indian music and yes, he was under-rated. He couldn't market himself well enough like SJ, SD, CR and Naushad.

Sardar Mallick was one of the most underrated composers in Bollywood. His movies were not box-office smashes, but musically they were superb. He never failed with his music. And EMI India never released a collection of his music - which he so much deserved. The destruction by EMI India of the original music masters and tapes destryed the musical treasures from 40's, 50' and 60's. The mother of all "jashan" movie sequence songs is his "Daiyyare daiyya ek kanhaiyya" from Saranga. In terms of musical quality, lilting happy beat, chorus back-up, filmization and sheer exuberant energy, this song can't be beaten. "Hotonpe aisi baat main dabati chali aayi" from Jewel Thief comes close - but not quite. This is still the tops.
