The universality of the NOI is seen in its citizens - Hispanics, Native Americans, Indians, Arabs, Africans, mixed races & primarily Blacks; also, in its outreach mosques: Mexico, Jamaica, Virgin Islands, London, The Gambia, Ghana, Canada, Nigeria,etc. In its over 70 year history there is minimal to no history of violence or desecration of private or religious property. Islam means to submit to the will of God and does not teach racism, however, racism is rampant in Islam as it is rampant globally. The Hindis that became Muslims have improved but still practice their cast (racist) system; the Saudis are flagrant racists (minimal high level Imams esp at Hajj); the Bosnians/Serbs Muslims are racist (minimal Blacks in positions of power), also Jordanians, etc. The NOI has peaceful relations with most Christians and many Jews. Not everyone is allowed to be a citizen of a Nation (they have to qualify - for example, the only people that can enter Mecca are those that recite the Shahada & you can only be fully Jewish if your mother is a Jew & for hundreds of years China walled itself off to prevent non-Chinese from entering & Japan did a similar thing for hundreds of years). NOI members don't submit to Allah, or His will, because they don't follow His guidance on treating all races respectfully. The prophet (pbuh) said that a white man is not superior to a black man and a black man is not superior to a white man, except by piety and righteous actions. The racism exhibited and taught by NOI members has nothing to do with piety or good deeds, in fact it's the opposite and as such unIslamic.

Despite this, I am proud of how far we have come as a people. We had our identity stripped away from us, can you say the same for whites or Asians? We will overcome. We have been battered, but certainly not broken. We survived the middle passage, slavery, the white man, so we can handle our current challenges. I agree that we need to be self sufficient like the Asians. Many Blacks don't know about the numerous opportunities available to them, and our unity is not as strong as it once was.

I would love nothing more than blacks owning 100% of the businesses in our communities, but it isn't so. Black are the most unique ethnic group I can think of, therefore we cannot compare them, honestly, to Asians or whites. Asians had an entirely different American experience from blacks, not to mention the many loans/grants they get from the gov. The secret to Asian success in America is selective immigration. Poor Asians stay in Asia; many, if not most, of the shopkeepers you mention come from the eilte of their own societies. They may hold humble jobs when they frist arrive, but they often arrive with advanced degrees and other valuable cultural capital. Plus, the white majority doesn't fear and hate Asians as they do blacks. When was the last time whites feld a neighborhood 'cuz Koreans were moving in? Never. Yet blacks are shunned.

I truely believe all races are good and deserve an equal shot at properity and happiness. I also realize there are misguided people in all races. Just go to any other country in the world, and you will not find any minority in any layer of government. Africa sold Europeans black slaves which were transported all over in White ships.
