Mass Effect 2 actually improves the RPG aspects of the original. Both Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 are so awesome I'm surprised they managed to deliver the INSANE epicness that Bioware promised for the players.

This ending pisses me off because it's so inconsequential. The new human council is just as stubborn and unhelpful, Udina is still an ass. Anderson is still useless. It has no real relevance on the events of ME2, just like Wrex's death, Ashley/Kaiden's death or any of the other 'hard' choices you had to make in ME1. Wasted opportunities.

Besides, Shepard is in the military and a war is starting so it makes more sense for him to choose someone from the military like Anderson instead of a politician like Udina.

For the first game, Shepard does not die. It's whether or not the council dies.That's the two ending for Mass Effect. For the second upcoming game, Commander Shepard either dies or not depends on how much your teammates like you. Its all about context, Shepard has control over the relays, he/she decides when they go in to fight sovereign. So essentially, yeah he can decide. I accidentally chose to have the council die when I was playing paragon, mostly cuz the squadmates were telling me to.
