Patrick is making the cruel suggestion himself but at the same time attributing it to the elusive "anybody". Be honest Patrick and admit your cruelty.
Canada's Patrick Watson is one of the best interviewers of all time, and I thank him for extracting this piece of brilliance from the great Orson Welles.
The last thing giants and important thinkers like Orsen Welles need is a fawning fan kissing up to him. I am grateful the interview took a few risks here (whether they worked or not).
Awesome interview. PW goes toe to toe with a man who is worthy of going toe to toe with and who needs intelligent people around him. I would love to see Patrick Watson interview Michael Bay or Geroge Lucas or Speilberg and hold them to account and intelligently challenge the shoddy terrible work they have flooded the world with in recent years and see where those conversations go.
Loved this clip, Orsen's laugh and enlightened straight and almost illuminations on whatever he talks about.
the interviewer is rather impertinent and slightly rude.but its a measure of welles as a man that he remains impassive throughout some absurd questions, and even has a good laugh.what a guy.
"do you think technique is superficial?" great response by Welles which showed that the swarmy, interviewer could dish out questions/insults, but he couldn't take them.
I think this is a fascinating interview. I agree with the guy down there: this isn't a "stupid" interview, it's just a charming, laid back conversation. The interviewer is just asking Welles to comment on some of his critics's assertions. What's stupid about that?
after citizen kane ,i think is when welles' life started to shine. such an amazing man......he appealed more to the everyday person than to those that were consumed with lining their pockets with money. i have so much respect for the way he disrespected money.......thumbs up to orsen
what an idiot! Hadn't he heard of Magnificent Ambersons, Othello, Lady from Shanghai, Touch of evil, The Trial and there was time to make one more great...Chimes at midnight
The interviewer never said he thought the same way the OTHER critics said about his work not being not memorable after Kane. Of course, i disagree to...

Around 1:52 you can actually see Welles thinking, "now you've overstepped the mark."

Welles was the consummate practitioner of interlocutory aikidō.

That's a typical CBC style interview. Many people find it extremely offensive for some reason.
This is a celebrity interview, so I don't know how serious the questions can be.

your right...
this canadian so called reporter was cruel.
orson was one of the true filmic greats and did not deserve this...through orson's smiles and laughs i am sure this hurt him a little.
so great to see old footage like this though.
thanks
