Look for the Yiddish song "Bulbes" (potatoes), on which this song is based. Musically similar, bulbes makes light of the material hardships of poverty, while nothing goes to extremes and makes light of everything we often take too seriously.

in memory of tuli, i would say "rest in nothing," but this would be absurd because in nothing there is neither rest nor the absence of rest. in nothing, there "is" only nothingness - - the scare quotes indicating that the word "is" doesn't quite fit, since "is" suggests being, while nothingness implies an absence of being. that being said, the fugs' "nothing" is a fitting mantra in honor of tuli and our condition.

I used to listen to this with an old friend of mine (now long gone)...he had all the Fugs records. Amazing stuff to say the least. I managed to salvage some of the later albums and even found re-releases on CD...maybe I'll post the "Swinburne Stomp" that should turn a few heads. Thanks for posting.
