  • great piloting.. I love the howling as it goes by, a scaled down noise right from Reno...

  • Best way I found out to film fast planes is to use a video cam with 15-20x zoom....go 100 yards away and film it on zoom. It's easier to follow from that far away.

  • Noob belly lander question here. How do you land without the prop bearking? I have read not to use the brake function on the ESC and that the prop will move out of the way when it lands, but how does that work? I have the stock setup with an upgraded Turnigy Trust 45a SBEC.

  • @GetRoKd Assuming the throttle is off, you estimate how far it will glide to touchdown. Right before it touches ground, apply just a tad bit of up elevator. That's called flaring out. It will save a lot of props, but not all the time.

  • I put some reflecting gold-coloured foil on the bottom of the wings, it helps me a lot to recognise the way it's lying in the air, not only if there is great sunshine. I bought this self adhesive foil in a kitchen-shop, it's meant to cover drawers, but it does it job on almost all my planes, gliders, e-gliders and so on ...

  • can you slow it down a little and do some sport flying? I honestly get bored with a plane that's just for speed. I love the look of it. Is there a Stock Military Bearcat rc?

  • lolz I had an aeleron come loose before, it makes it seem like drunk flying because the plane wags around, won't do quite what you want. it feels wierd.

  • WHY DONT I HAVE A PLACE LIKE THAT TO FLY?!!!

  • Nice little plane... Insanely fast! Mudman1959

  • Back last year in one of your weekly updates, you said you would review the hobbyking donkey motors. Is that still on your list? Also, did you ever do the video on the alternative firmware for the 9x?

  • i see some people put on a 40amp esc instead of 30.. what would you recommend? is it enaugh wit 30amps?

  • @Kjetilaf After I killed a 30A ESC (2-4S) on my rear bear (i bought this ESC on ebay) I put in a 40ESC (3-4S) from Hobby King. So far I have about a dozen flights with two of these planes, never ever any problems with the 40A. I fly the nano-tech 65+C. In the meantime hobbyking announced to have upgraded the ESCs for highC 4S batteries!

  • Cameraman: "I've gotta try finding it again now"

Spectator: "That's what ya missus keeps tell you!"

    HAHAH :D

  • i got a question..... how fast does hobbyking ship?

  • notice

you got the price tag on your hat

  • That video wasn't to bad for the overcast conditions . Yes they sure are very fast on a 4s pack .

  • My grandmother flies faster.

  • Its funny when you speak to your friends i dont understand a single word! xD

  • I've been hinting to the Mrs about getting one of these as a Xmas present ;-) just hope she goes for it, if not i'll order one after Xmas because i've spent out after getting my last EDF ;-) Great flying Bruce and well kept together with the dodgy aileron mate, was that the stock ESC because i can't remember if you upgraded or not,Anthony Hand said the new stock of these had a better ESC in them and COULD handle the 4s now,not sure i would still trust them though and was hoping yours was stock.

  • @startazz After seeing the stock ESC in an AT6 FunFighter fail after just two flights on 4S I opted to replace the stock unit with a 30A HobbyKing one before I even flew. For $8 or so it's worth the peace of mind.

  • @RCModelReviews Too true and thanks for the quick reply Bruce.

  • @startazz anthony hand id not lie. the esc can hande 4s. what he failed to mention was that the esc is only rated up to 20a. the esc sould be ok on 4s IF u were to keep it under 20a, maybe 15a to be safe. these funfighters on 4s pull approx 27a on the stock prop.....u would have to prop down to use the stock elecs. DAMN THE CHEAP, LOW MORAL STANDARDS OF GREEDY SALES/ADVERTIZING

  • @toolbaggers Mmmm, well my Mrs did get me one for part of my Xmas present and i also got a couple of 4s and 3s batteries that HK recommends on there website for this plane, loads of people on the forums are saying the same as you basically ;-) so to be on the safe side i'm going to swap my stock ESC for a 30amp e-flite one which has a peak of 35 amps with proper air flow and is rated for 3s and 4s batteris ;-) so i should be good to go with that ;-) thanks for you input mate.

  • Yep, I have had mine a couple of weeks now and have the same conclusion - amazingly fast and fun!

I am flying it on 4S with the stock ESC without problem (so far), but I did cut out holes in the ESC's heatshrink on both sides for cooling, AND I dropped in a BEC that I had lying around - I figure that not only will that take a little pressure off the ESC, but also if it does fry I will still have receiver/servos powered for a controlled dead-stick landing. As I say, no problems so far - love it!

  • I just finished building the T-28 and the P-40. Using a 40 ESC and 4 Cell 800 40C. I am sure they will fly as fast as my Funjet. Just need some time to go out to the field and give the planes a test run. You said the ailerons were touchy. Which hole in the control horn did you use the one furthest from the wing or the closest one. How much expo you going to use. Looks like fun.

  • The one thing that I'm not clear on, is everything in the plane stock, other than the battery. And what size and c rating did you use?

  • @WSRebel2 If you look at the build video (part one of the Rare Bear review) you'll see that I replaced the stock controller with a HobbyKing 30A one. The stock controller will fail on 4S, despite HK's claims that it's been specially upgraded.

  • Minnie Pearl, eat your heart out!

  • You're really stylin there, leaving the tags on your hat! ;^)

  • @G56AG A trend-setter, not a follower! :-)

  • Great vid as usual, lots of funny background comments! A suggestion or 2: the clevises are retained with plastic sleeves which have NO grip. Replace them with the usual silicon fuel line sleeves about 5mm long. Use clear packaging tape to stick the upper rear fuze and tail cone piece on, just in case it needs to come off...

  • for sure it will make you pump adrenaline, looks like it's the most fun one can have with clothes on!

  • Bruce does his best "Minnie Pearl" imitation. Ummm... I think she wore the tag in the front..lol One word - FAST.

  • Noob question time... What is expo? I've seen it used on forums and tried googling it but can't find the meaning as it's used in the RC world. I'm assuming it has something to do with the trim?

  • @dan110024 Expo (Exponential) is a way to slow down the response of your transmitter control sticks when they are close to their center point, by adding expo you can make the plane less responsive to small stick movements while still retaining full responsiveness at the outer edge control stick movement. Some RC pilots find it helpful as it can make a model less twitchy when trying to fly smooth with small stick adjustments.

  • @chiosex Ahh thanks! It all makes sense now.

  • Dude!

Lose the price tags on your hat... LoL

    Q:)

  • Is Fliming a kiwi word - wasn't when I went to school :)

And, yes that is fast! Is it mostly to to with the airframe shape - lack of drag? (and of course the power). An AXN wouldn't be able to go that fast - would it.

  • yes she sure is a FAST little beast there Bruce

  • Mr. Speed Demon!

    Thanks!

  • Is it a three part CF spar like on the AT6 funfighter, or is it all once piece? (my wing broke during first loop....)

  • @takilara The RB has a vertical carbon spar. It seems to be quite strong -- unlike the Spitfire from the same series of funfghters. What model did you break the wing on?

  • @RCModelReviews The AT6 Texan. (Plane of the Week on xjet). I see very many reviews say the same, that the spars come loose where they are glued together.

  • @takilara The spar is a 2-piece, overlapping by about 2" inside the fuze, like a shallow "x" My Bear crashed on the maiden last Sunday. What I mean is, I crashed it, lol... VERY sensitive to aileron. Engine mount torn out, cowl creased and both wings cracked at the root and the spars separated. I put a mini cable tie around them where they "x" cross over each other (at the dihedral angle) and smothered the joint in CA. 5min poxy the rest and voila! Amazing, as it took a VERY hard hit ...

  • @rgheli hmm. Sounds better than on the AT6 though, as that is a 3-piece, with only about 1" overlap on the joints...

I also reinforced with CA on them after my wing broke. But i also added a flat CF to the top of the wing and to the bottom of the wing. Have not tried it after the modification

  • good to see this part 2 at last Bruce. I maidened my RB last weekend and agree its hugely sensitive on the ailerons. Would appreciate your idea of good dual rate and expo settings for aileron. I wish I had your airfield to fly at!

  • So many fast planes, but this is the one I want. Thanks for all your videos!!

  • What sort of transmitter is that Bruce, longwire converted to frSky I see

  • @CharlesLouisDance It is one of the very first FlySky 9X radios that was sold under the iMax brand. A slightly updated version of these radios is now sold as the Turnigy 9X. Three years old and still going strong!

  • Whoa, too fast for me.

Let Ron have a go and we'll see what the hangar has to say about it. :-)

  • 6 cell!

  • fast!!!
