  • She really has a good voice!!

  • Where was the orchestra? Were they in the bathroom?

  • I was wondering who was in this lineup of the Shindogs on this Patty Duke episode. I know the Shindogs changed members from time to time. I know the one playing the Fender guitar is James Burton, and Joey Cooper is playing the Gibson guitar. Anyone know who the bass player, drummer, and keyboard player are? If so, let me know. I think the bass player is Delaney Bramlett, and the keyboard player is either Glen D. Hardin or Leon Russell.

  • it was even weirder in the movie

  • 1965? really? this style of music sounded dated compared to the beatles etc

  • For the movie Billie she got her hair all cut off and bleached so on this show she had to wear a wig for a season and what a horrible job they did on it, the top of her head looks like Herman Munsters! LOL

I love Patty Duke though, always have!

  • @BigTerKC Thank you for clearing that up and yes it did look like Herman Munsters!! I liked her hair first season though.

  • Patty Duke songs are the only ones missing from Fallout 3...

  • Patty Duke was just so adorable here....

  • Ross!

  • Boy if only people knew how accurate that line,"I'm all mixed-up inside,"was!:-)

  • I have just found these songs that Patty sung when I was young. Only if I would have heard them then. They say so much of what I was going through.

  • This is the first song I ever heard her sing, of course I was only 6 in 1965, but watched the show faithfully, if Im not mistaken, two of the guys look like brothers, the one on the drums and one of the guys playing guitar. I know one of the guitar players is James Burton.

  • @weightfeather1 I purchased my dvd from Amazon.com. It's called Profiles with Mickey Burns (host) featuring Lesley Gore.

  • @weightfeather1 Agreed. Lesley went into the studio on March 30, 1963, and recorded four tracks. She was 16 at the time. Her birthday is May 2, 1946. Most of her hits were double-tracked. Lesley stated that, at the time, double-tracking was illegal to do. They always had a union representative at the session. When they were finished, everyone left, but later Quincy and she came back and added the double tracking. (Source: Profiles interview with Mickey Burns dvd).

  • @weightfeather1 Quincy Jones did the double-tracking and "echo chamber" technique with Lesley Gore also.

  • ahhhhhhhh childhood memories

  • ahhhhhhhh childhood memories

  • I had a cruch on her growing up and , and Yes i concur what a class act. lol

  • Imagine -- people, especially young people had talent at one time!

Think of Miley Cyrus, she like Duke, had her own show and is a "singer" both when they were teens -- now you can't even compare the mutli-talented Patty to the non-talented Miley!

  • I <3 Patty! What a talented lady, she's one of my favorite actresses.

  • I adored her back then wished I could be on her show.

  • yes and that double tracking on her voice sounds so great especialy since we dont see her even using a michrophone how did they sound so good in the living room awe the magic of tv she lip synced to her newest hit and debuted it on her tv show

  • I saw an episode when she sang "When the Saints Go Marching in."

  • I love the invisible string and tambourine section! But then, this WAS old TV...

  • Kind of like the 70's Brady Bunch where Bobby (I think) was getting his first "action" of kissing and they visualized this as fireworks. Yeah, I bet he blew a few fireworks....

  • The word I heard was she was overdubbed with a stronger vocalist. Could be wrong. Either way, the euphamisms for what we would now call horny or randy are pretty funny. I love Patty Duke and am sure many would say, "Oh no,it's not about that..." That the whole point. Pre-sexual revolution that was not even publicly conceptualized, so it had to be framed at "butterflies" etc.

  • This her voice

  • C.mon kids! Let's Aqua net our hair and start a swinging band in the living room!

  • a swinging band of older men...

    Also: Let's be 19 and pretend we're 14.

  • Yea-ah !

  • patty duke what a class act

  • I love Patty

  • I heard that Delaney Bramlett, the blond-haired guy playing the Gibson guitar in the clip, passed away recently. Rest in Peace Delaney.

Also, this is a top-notch scene from "The Patty Duke Show" with not only Bramlett in the band, The Shindogs (The TV Show SHINDIG'S house band) but also having James Burton on the Fender guitar and Glen D. Hardin on keyboards. James and Glen would play for Elvis Presley on his stage shows. Oscar winning actress meets musicians fit for The King of Rock & Roll!

  • @Jaybird1103 I made a mistake on which one was Delaney Bramlett. The blond-haired man playing the guitar was Joey Cooper.

Two men in the Shindogs band would later play for Elvis Presley, as I mentioned in the post I made a mistake on. James Burton played the Fender guitar and Glen D. Hardin was the keyboard player. I guess you could say James and Glen played for a Duke and a King.

  • the keyboard player looks like GLEN D. HARDEN ..who was the piano player for ELVIS PRESLEY

  • My favorite Patty Duke song. Thanks for posting this clip.

  • This episode was just on THIS and to their credit they played the song in it's entirety. It's just too bad that the local station's commercials cut into the show. :(

  • Yep, this is an edited version. The second verse is missing. I have this episode uncut and the song is complete and unedited. In fact, I have all 104 Patty Duke Show episodes complete and uncut, airings I recently recorded from TV. It took a little over two years for me to get all the episodes.

  • I recorded the episodes on VHS-SP, then transferred the episodes on to DVD's. All 104 episodes are on 26 DVD's, quality is outstanding. It is one sweet collection of this great show.

  • LOVE IT - one of PATTY DUKE'S best recording efforts - too bad this is the edited version but it's still great to see - her vocal here is louder than the LP version that is heard more often today - thanks for posting! SHE'S a gifted performer [both then and now].

  • Isn't Patty lipsyncing here?

  • She's of course lip syncing to her recording of the song, but she recorded it once for the Movie "Billie" (single voiced) and a softer vocal take (not used here) and the 45 rpm Single version, which is heard here.

  • Yep the Billie version is slower Poor Patty tyring to keep up with the 45 version..lol

  • Yes, I have the original soundtrack album, Billie!

  • does "single voiced" mean no chorus, or does it mean no echo effect? This one has the echo effect. Is there a better name for this? It's typical of recordings of this period. Neil Sedaka, etc.

  • Single voiced means that in the movie version (in this case, BILLE) she sang it without her voice being double-tracked, and here, for the 45rpm record she sang along with herself, what is referred to in the studio as "over-dubbing". Plus, reverb is added in by the studio technicians to make the overall sound of the voice bigger. Many recorded efforts utilize this process.

  • Was the backup band a REAL band?? (the lead guitar player did play for Elvis & Ricky Nelson)
