I have 2 vivid memories associated with this song. First: the last time I visited the Kings Dominion amusement park in the summer of 1986 (before Paramount purchased it). On the way home, I remember my father looking for a fast food joint in downtown Richmond, VA late that night. Saw a storefront Subway—didn't stop. But was it the same time we saw the old fashioned Arby's giant "gallon hat" neon sign? "One Step Closer" was getting significant airplay then and I think I heard it in the car.

Just as the Fall 1989 semester got underway: the old student union had a recreation room downstairs across from the campus bookstore. The rec room had a juke box & I saw Gavin Christopher's "One Step Closer To You" among the selections. I dropped a quarter and enjoyed making a new memory with the old song. There was a bunch of guys playing ping pong at the time, who I don't think linked the loud interruption. They were somewhat hostile to me as I think my music interrupted the flow of their game

In 1986 Black Entertainment Television's music videos were decidedly tame compared 2 the half-naked, booty-shaking fare of today. Christopher's "One Step Closer To You" is vanilla. But I heard Bob Johnson, the founder of BET & now the NBA Charlotte Bobcats owner, didn't allow his own children to watch video shows on his network due to concerns over content. Can this possibly be true and if so, isn't that what's called hypocrisy? I was only a D student, so I dunno. My vocabulary is only so-so

This reminds me of summer 1986. Ocean City, MD my buddy and I telling two hot girls we were 16(we were 13). We hung out with them all week and made out to MTV music back when they actually played videos. I still have this burned on to a cd somewhere. Thanks for the video.
