there are so many tourists diving now that your message is a little late...I lived there in1975 and could see what was coming...untrained divers literally walk on the coral because they haven't been trained to properly use their bc.

A Polyp is in the same Phyla as a jellyfish. It is basically the first stage of a jellyfish. Both in Phyla Cnidaria, a Polyp is sessile, while a Medusa (otherwise called Jellyfish) is the mobile of the two.

Less than 20% coral is in good condition here.

Australian Government distorts great barrier reef as good place and makes it seems like it is far better than it is.

Best reefs are in Indonesia and Philippines.

Barrier reef is dying from variety of reasons including too many tourists in too smaller areas.

Not worth the visit there unless you have big bucks for the outer reef.

This is a fact. Barrier reef is in bad shape. Made worse bt rising acidity of your part of the ocean. The outer reefs can be good, but most inner reefs are mediocre at best. However, depends on your experience in diving, etc as to what makes you happy/what you like to pay for.
