Wow... listing the species found, change to a nudibranch/sea slug when he says "sea cucumber" ... anybody else notice this?
also, the 'polyps' of corals aren't those of jellyfish as I saw someone say... they're actually a different class of cnidarian all together; the anthozoans, closest relatives of the sea anemones!! They only have the polyp phase, unlike other cnidarians (jellies, hydras, etc.) that also have the medusoid phase. I

i agree babfish13, but there are some good dive story sites on the net too. Try the myscubastory site. They have real life dive stories and dive accident videos. Put myscubastory into google, and its the first result.
there are so many tourists diving now that your message is a little late...I lived there in1975 and could see what was coming...untrained divers literally walk on the coral because they haven't been trained to properly use their bc.
because of heavy tourism and pollution, this place is estimated to have lost 95 percent of its coral life by 2050. Finding that out makes me wanna kill 3 billion people....
@jakovasourman1212 That would make you a murderer and an idiot. I love the reef as much as the next person, but that kind of talk is lunacy even in jest.
A Polyp is in the same Phyla as a jellyfish. It is basically the first stage of a jellyfish. Both in Phyla Cnidaria, a Polyp is sessile, while a Medusa (otherwise called Jellyfish) is the mobile of the two.
This is a fact. Barrier reef is in bad shape. Made worse bt rising acidity of your part of the ocean. The outer reefs can be good, but most inner reefs are mediocre at best. However, depends on your experience in diving, etc as to what makes you happy/what you like to pay for.
Did you people know that you can pay just $60 dollars for one full day on the reef, which includes snorkelling, free scuba diving lesson, meals....that's what I call a deal.
It includes...blablabla, green blue yellow, my goodness what a lame-ass. He sounds like a South African trying some accent that vaguely resembles an Australian.
Great footage, I had a snorkelling holiday there and just got back yesterday. It is exactly like that. Except whoever is narrating is doing a very poor imitation of an Australian Accent

can someone list some abiotic factors for here?
skaterdeath9 3 years ago
Less than 20% coral is in good condition here.
Australian Government distorts great barrier reef as good place and makes it seems like it is far better than it is.
Best reefs are in Indonesia and Philippines.
Barrier reef is dying from variety of reasons including too many tourists in too smaller areas.
Not worth the visit there unless you have big bucks for the outer reef.
