Just watched all 5 episodes. A very well produced piece from Andrew Marr and the Beeb. Lets look forward to the return on the boom times...

Thank you for the series. It was an education, at least, for this American. Due to "Admire, Aspire & Acquire," the Western Empire is now on the brink of collapse. Americans have suffered through over 400 yrs. of British & Scot economic history & we're finally on the road to rid ourselves from it. Patriots here are still trying to separate from our once "Mother Country" our mutual economic rapaciousness has yet to abate. We're both still in the same boat & there's NO joy in that anymore.

@SocratesTheGadfly Yeah, it's not only the clash of civilizations but it's also a clash of empires. There's also the Asian empire now planted in Africa & aligned with Iran. Are you suggesting that we bankrupt ourselves by fighthing them both? Do you believe in simple solutions to ambiguously complex & often fallacious dichotomies? Isn't aggravating our wars of the West against the Rest only hastening our mutual unpitied annihilation? If so, stop hating & vote for Ron Paul.

Thanks to New Labour and their warped education system that has churned out losers who cant even add, their immigration policy that has overwhelmed our housing stock and public services and taken our jobs, their deregulation of the financial system and handing powers over to Brussels - the UK faces a DIRE FUTURE. I dont know what planet lefties like AM live on but it certainly is not planet earth, and his warped view of this country is through some very rose tinted glasses indeed....

andrew marr is superb at doing documentries, whoever sais the bbc is not so good any more should watch these programmes, they should use some of these programmes in schools to give people a brief knowledge of modern british politics, i liked blair and i like labour but they made some big mistakes, hopefully labours new generation will learn from the mistakes of the last one's, still i like the fact that it shows the tories poor government and mistakes too, major was as bad as brown at leadership

As a Canadian, I don't usually appreciate how turbulent history has been in the last 65 years or so 'over the pond'. Thanks to this program, I have a much better understanding of who all the PMs up to Blair were and what they did, how the internet came about, how Britain became such a multi-ethnic nation, and the degree of turbulence people lived through at various times. Life in Canada seems dull in comparison (though it's actually not...we've had some rocky times in the last 65 years too).

My favourite part was the 80s years with Maggie. Thats the world I grew up in.

All this makes me realise more and more that its not politics that change the world, its technology.

thank you very much for uploading the entire series - i watched all five today and i think i'll now buy the dvd. this was a great series and i can envisage myself returning to it again & again. marr is an intelligent & amiable man and a national treasure along with ian hislop, stephen fry, and david mitchell, among a handful of others. long live marr & long live the beeb!

Thanks for the upload btw - I've read this book but not having seen the TV show. It's so great to be able to put faces to names, pictures to words. Will probably head out to buy the DVD when it becomes a tad cheaper.

(1) independent BoE, low interest rates, cheap mortages - gone

(2) house prices - knocked down quite a bit

(3) cheap travel prices - not anymore - fuel tax had gone up

The other still kinda hold true. But with the new immigration acts that have been read in the parliament since the Iraq War, the international labour force is going to be only limited to europeans. The next 70 years of Britain will be so much more monotonic than the last 70.
