While the first two were great and everyone sort of took book 3 apart, I will agree that book 3 was not nearly as good. I still had to watch to see how some parts of the story line went on.. or didn't but te complete needless addition of Robert Wagner was just, that needless. What was this old fart trying to get back in front of a camera or did he need the money or something? The Hart to Hart days wew long gone at this point and Wagner being passed off as the southerner with the fake accent??
Books 1 & 2 were nothing less than outstanding. I couldn't even finish the first part of Book 3, it was that unwatchable. Orry's murder, Bent surviving an explosion that occured one second after he ran in the building, Cooper Main was not even mentioned by any family member of the Mains. Avoid book 3 at all cost if you've enjoyed book 1 and 2.
The overall quality of this lacked without Patrick Swayze, Kirstie Alley, and Bill Conti. They all made the original two parts work but also James Read and LAD made them great. Without those three the series lacked quite a bit, even James was great in Book 3
Love the music but hate this book! I give semi credit to John Jakes for trying to continue North and South and write this one based on the Reconstruction period, but COME ON!!! In this book, nothing seems to make sence anymore and it just horrible!!! >:(
@crybabygirl08 .....i agree just based on the novels alone Book 3 was a letdown plus it didn't help in the first 2 mini series that there were some changes like the omission of Cooper Main in the mini series versions (and then he just shows up in mini series3) Orry dies in Book 2 during the war (which they might as well have stuck too since they couldn't get Swayze for mini series 3) some changes worked and some didn't especially when it came to Heaven and Hell
