  • I'm going to definitely build one. It's gotta be better than the barrel I'm using now.

  • nice job may i ask for some pans for ur ball mill

  • Thanks. You r awesome!

  • Were do you get chemicals for like stars and what chemicals make a color

  • @oOB3A5TOo Alot of cheap chemicals can be either made at home, or bought in local stores but alot of chemicals are bought online. Just type in the chemical you need and look around. A good reasource for pyrotechnic knowledge can be found on a site called Skylighter

  • Hi,

I have not made a ball mill but wanted to make a suggestion. I do wood working and used PVC for my dust collection. Because PVC is such a good generator of static, I ran copper wire thru my ducts to ground any static discharges. This is to avoid dust explosions from the static igniting the dust particles. I have also used PVC to intentionally generate static for some of my electrical experiments. So when grinding combustible substances it may be advisable to ground the mill.

  • a few questions

first) the size of the balls or the aluminium cylinder how big do they need to be

second) how many balls or cylinder needed

third) the loading capacity of the container how much is too much

by that way thank's for that video really nicely explained clear and simple

  • after using this for a while, it might not be a bad idea to get another metal tightening strap to lessen the amount that gets stuck in the lid. My version doesn't have the step down in diameter, so I imagine I get slightly more lid jam than you.

  • I don't know what this cost to build in the US but in the UK from a well known plumbing supply wholesaler:

    160mm Socket - £17

    160-110mm Reducer - £20

    160mm end cap - £18

    110mm screw soil access cap - £6

    Total - £61

I could buy a 6" mill jar with lift bars and rubber liner for half that!

  • After cracking about 10 ball mill jars, having to clean up a big mess from one of those breaks...... I made my own mini skinman. I'll upload my container vid as a response soon =)

  • Two questions. Does the substance get stuck in the lip inside it when removing the material, and how did you construct the actual rotation part of the mill?

  • @SuperTrackstar22 some of the material sticks in the lip but lightly bouncing the container on the floor will clear it. The rotating part of the mill is just two metal rods covered in vinyl that are connected to two ball barrings, the rotating rod has a pully on the end which is connected to the drive shaft with another pully and belt.

  • why not use a screw cap instead of a rubber cap?

  • @trapingman My first attempt at making a barrel I used a screw cap, it worked for a while but the cap eventually became locked in place becouse of the powder getting in between the threads The cap also sometimes falls off. I hope to make a bigger version but the parts are hard to find in large sizes.

  • where to get ball mills ?

  • @MegaLomino You can buy them online or build them, I didn't show the full construction because of lack of materials.

  • Way too big a design for the capacity of the container...

  • and i was about to buy one...

  • Love it love it thx bro

  • i want those hemis!!

  • Jake, what happened at like 2:30 ? looks like something fell and you were like "oops"

  • That is how to build a ball mill container.

Your titel is (((how to build a ball mill)

It would be nice if you built one.

    But good vid.

  • Would marbles work instead of lead balls?

  • @S0BERwelfareNATIVE yes, but they would likley become chipped and damaged quickly and wouldent produce very good composition because of their light weight.

There is also a fear of sparking, while Ive never heard of glass sparking but its best to be on the safe side.

  • @S0BERwelfareNATIVE go to a used tire store, or a tire shop and ask for old lead weights off old car wheels. You can melt them down, but your okay if you just remove any steel from them, and toss them in. I got buckets of lead weights asking around, they come in really handy for making all sorts of things, mostly ammo.

  • @S0BERwelfareNATIVE dont use glass, i know others do, but they waste hours of milling time. Get lead from an old junkyard, pickapart, places like that, even a used tire shop. no corporate stores will give you wheel weights. Or find some solid gold bars and use those =)

  • Can i mill corn and wheat in a Ball Mill?

  • @ScientologySucksAss yes but if you plan on using food products the media should be made from stainless steel and the barrel should be washed with soap first.

  • what are ball mills for???

  • @123crackerjacks They are for making black powder and other pyrotechnic compositions

  • @123crackerjacks they are for luring leprechans into a tumbling can where you can spin him till all the gold falls out of his pockets.

  • @himrchp thats beast. im makin one of these

  • could you mke a video on how to make the motor to turn the barrel? And would you consider watching the video on my motor and tell me if its good for like a medium sized barrel motor?

  • Totally COOL!!! I was looking for a way to make a 'frit' ball mill at home to grind glass shards into material for my arts and crafts projects. I'm totally impressed. Thanks!!! Patricia, Stockton, California

  • 3 forth? thats 3 quarters; 3/4; right?

  • @jadenjak yes.

  • Where did you buy your steel balls? or "media"

and how about your pvs pipe just for easier thoughts on the buying procces

im kindof a noob soo ya(:

  • @Rocketjony PVC is from home depot, lowes, menards etc...

  • very nice!, i'm having problems finding something to use as a pulley for the motor, what did you use? any ideas? thanks

  • Hey legendofmatty read the description it said just the ball mill for now didn't it..... DIDN'T IT. wow some people. PS. from Tubbles

  • That's great stuff man your amazing I love you make more videos please please please. Ps. From Tubbles

  • great stuff. what about the Base... you say nothing about how to make it.

  • verry nice:p it works good! Thanks

  • I envy you for the hemis on the background!

    Nice job.

  • @extrasonic Thanks!

  • dude...did you ever think about selling sham wows?

  • @spidersinspace I do sound like a salesman don't I?

  • how many alumina cylinders do you use and does a combination of sizes really help?

  • @morganhv I use about 100 for mine, a componation does help becouse it increases eficiancy.

  • What kind of motor did you use?

  • @Seankingstonelover Im not sure of the RPM or anything But I know it was taken from a drill press and given to me by a friend of mine.

Im sorry it took so long for me to reply.

  • I'm just learning about "ball milling". Why the step-down from the 4" to 3" pvc in your design?

  • @HowdySox The 3" pipe is just built to form a neck so the clamp does not come in contact with the rollers

  • @IAmTheSkinMan Genius. So simple. Thanx!

  • thanks

  • Your welcome

  • Good method, to build a ball mill! Thank You so much! (from brazil)

  • No problem.

  • Isn't there a risk of static sparking with the pvc?

  • PVC is a safe material to build a ball mill, many expirianced hobbyists use PVC because of its durability. Over the years I have used a PVC barrel and never expirianced and electrostatic discharge Ive also never heard any reports on accedents caused by a PVC barrel. So it is very safe.

  • @theartilerysheller1-----do not tell the skin man what to do lol

  • relax its a logical question

  • lol

  • why not use a bigger piece of 4" PVC pipe instead of the 4" pipe connected to the 3" pipe

  • I have a bigger barrel I just don't have the endcaps right now.
