this song was inspired by the shuttle challenger disaster, when asked about what his thoughts on the tragedy, mccartney replied "it's really groovy man, i think space is far out"
Had never heard this one before. The single Band on the Run was a radio monster, and Bluebird also got airplay, but I never even heard Let Me Roll It until 1980. I was living a nomadic life then and bought few albums. Thanks for the post.
In Australia, it also was a single, but only got to #37 on the chart. It was Paul's second-last Apple record. Mind you, the fab four really had Apple records to themselves, because for the next two years or so, it was only them (as soloists) to release records on that label!

I never hear this song till I saw Paul in concert! and it was the funnest song! even if you didnt know it you were jumping around, and singing along<3 most amazing 3 hours of my entire life.
Yeh, I think of all of the Beatles, Paul has done the most with all of his music, including his solo, wings, and everthing after that up till now, and today's has one of the best bands I've ever heard doing Beatles songs live in places like Red Square in Russia, New York Shea Stadium. Sir Paul, Is a True Artist and musical genius
This is one of the best bass lines in all rock history. In fact this song maybe the greatest song rarely played on radio. It is 100 times better than Silly Love Songs or Someones knocking at my Door, but you would never know it by the geniuses who run radio. Peace.
@CityslickCaptain yes he is. very musical. maybe not a lot of chops, but seldom beaten for sheer taste. if you are a bass player, try figuring his stuff out, and imagine how hard should have been to come up with such organic basslines. not a lot of players can do that. of course we ARE talking about rock and roll, so don't expect scott la faro or jaco pastorius.
McCartney is one of the best bass players in history- I rank James Jamerson of Motown as no.1. These guys made music- like Bill Wyman and Entwhistle. Rush made noise. So did Getty Lee.
@auramac I wouldnt go as far as to say that! Tom Sawyer, Working Man, Limelight, Spririt of the Radio, Closer to the Heart, Fly by Night & Finding My Way are all great great classic rock songs. NOT NOISE BY NO MEANS! Now the rest of their library i will agree is noise. I like Rush but not a huge fan. But give them some credit. Because Mr. Peart is one of the greatest drum players there is. You have to give credit where credit is due. Alex Lifeson is also a great guitar player too.
Paul may not be one of the best bassist but for his time he was one of the top.
What he did well which can't be disputed is write and his bass playing and many other instruments were done well enough to make Sir McCartney the wealthiest musician for decades, as per guinness book of records.
He is still one of the wealthiest musicians alive and that says a great deal about the mans talent.
I think the key thing about Mccartney's bass playing is not so much the technical ability but the sheer innovative nature of his playing. Entwhistle was awesome, Geddy Lee too, and Claypool etc are great exponents of fancy playing. But McCartney played bass on the soundtrack to peoples' lives- All my Loving, with its great scalular bounce; Paperback Writer and Rain feature fantastic inventive playing, and this was 1966!; all accompanied superb songwriting and great singing- amazing.
Paul is without a doubt one of the greatest bassists. He was guitar magazines bassist of the year several times. Few people are in Geddy Lee or Les Claypool's league but he's far better than average. He's at least as good as Jones.
I had to come back and listen to this song again today. I love it. Listen to McCartney's bass playing - it is so melodic and brilliant. The fact that McCartney is one of the greatest bass players in rock history is overshadowed by the fact that McCartney is on of the best song writers and singers in all of rock history. Peace.
This is a prime example of the brilliance of Paul McCartney. This is one of the greatest little lost gems in all rock history and sadly few people even know about it. If this song was released as a new song today it would be #1 in the world. Peace.

people, you don't need to diss john in order to say paul is good. especially say that he's only remembered because he died, and that his solo career wasn't very good, that's 1 not true and 2 incredibly ignorant and rude.
they're both great musicians/songwriters, that's why they chose each other to work with in the first place. each has his own style, and i like them both.
Certo, sembra una filastrocca innocua e senza pretese che da Paul sembra invece declamare con sopraffina eleganza. Le cose semplici sono le più grandi....E poi o lo ami o lo odi il nostro Macca....
