This song is also a homage of sorts to another song called "Blue Shadows on the Trail," which was in the "Pecos Bill" segment of Disney's MELODY TIME. The movie was originally conceived as THREE CABALLEROS and use the well-known song from the animated film, but Disney would not let them use the title, so it was changed to AMIGOS, and new songs were written by Newman, who, ironically, would go on to score dozens of Disney movies later on.
