I watched this when it was first on the air on KCOP-13 Los Angeles; that bass player was on, she was HOT and the sound was mic'd perfectly. I miss the days of happy, up-beat music like that in pop. The Coors does it sometimes (Summer Sunshine) but even they're an early 1990s group.
I just started listening to my Martika CD and I get amazed as to how talented and up beat Martika's music is. Her sound is one of a kind. I love this woman. Very sexy!!!!
She could have been SOOO much more famous, she really has talent and amazing songs. I have her self titled album on cassette and I adore every single song on that tape!

Don't know much about Martika but she's fit and I love the Step by step song, I think you can tell straight away she's a natural, I don't know how to explain but I get a lot of emotion from anything she does. And I've just thought, why did Madonna get all successful and that and Martika didn't? She's obviously a lot more talented, musical etc. I've not heard of her in year's but I really hope she's still into music, surely that's her gift in life.
I think Martika was quite unlucky with her timing. She was at the tail end of a period in the late 80s where other female teen stars like Debbie Gibson and Tiffany had already been successful with bubble gum pop, and the music scene was moving on, with that kind of music going out of fashion for quite a while (Nirvana and the grunge scene were little more than a year down the line).
Martika's looks back in the late 80's and early 90's is exactly what people like Rihanna and Katie Holmes have now. Martika was the first to have their looks.

These days, we have Jennifer Lopez "On The Floor" with the "Lambada"-Melody. I miss such great acts like Martika in today`s charts.

Martika's voice is more powerful than Tiffany I believe. Her Tiffy and Debbie G. was one of the teenage became successful during their era.
