Because once the throat is slit, blood stops flowing and the animal quickly dies, if done properly, it doesn't feel pain because the nerve on its neck is destroyed, that's the thing. @cycophile Well, I'm not sure about the animal having to be unconscious, most Muslims believe it shouldn't be, but the reason for slaughter is to allow all the blood to gush out, because blood contains diseases, germs and bacteria that can be harmful, so the meat gets cleaned out right away. In the other non-Kosher/non-Halal method much of the blood still remains and that makes the meat less healthy. But yes, as little pain should be caused as possible.

This is why we have stress, and anxiety from all the scared animals that everyone eats. The meat ends up being toxic for humans to eat.
@7hotfire I'm not sure that's true..I'm a medical researcher and havn't come across this claim as a mechanism for stress...It makes sense and I wouldn't doubt it's untrue and I like the hypothesis...stress and anxiety is so complex...actually I rarely eat as much meat unless I've been engaging in a routine training schedule where adrenaline would be helpful in motivating me since I tend to have a low energy physiology...in my case adrenaline is very stress relieving..being sleepy is stressful

The cow gets a quick laceration across a surface level artery. The knife is required to be utmost sharp, so as to minimize discomfort. The blood pressure quickly falls and render the cow unconscious. It is as humane as slaughter gets. In non-kosher facilities, a type of bolt gun is used to quickly penetrate the skull and minimize discomfort. The problem is, sometimes it only knocks to cow out and the cow wakes up further down the butchering line.

That's how it should be done. Because once the throat is slit, blood stops flowing and the animal quickly dies, if done properly, it doesn't feel pain because the nerve on its neck is destroyed, that's the thing. Stunning isn't right, it still hurts, the animal obviously feels the pain, it just can't show it...

@cycophile Well, I'm not sure about the animal having to be unconscious, most Muslims believe it shouldn't be, but the reason for slaughter is to allow all the blood to gush out, because blood contains diseases, germs and bacteria that can be harmful, so the meat gets cleaned out right away. In the other non-Kosher/non-Halal method much of the blood still remains and that makes the meat less healthy. But yes, as little pain should be caused as possible.

It's sick how the law gives exceptions to Kosher facilities like this when non-religious ones have to follow strict humane rules. @conservativeyogy - non-kosher slaughterhouses are also horrific, but at least the law requires that the animals be stunned (with a bolt-gun to the head) prior to butchering. Unfortunately, not all animals get stunned due to the speed they're processed, and some get butchered alive and conscious.
Federal humane slaughter laws provide an exemption for kosher and halal slaughter, so these animals are always conscious through the slaughtering process - inherently worse.

This message is to all of you whose comments are towards Jews hatred: cruelty against animals is not about religion. It is about moral and compassion. A slaughterhouse, kosher or not is a disgusting proof of the men cruelty. I don't care if you do or don't have a religion. This is not about you. This is about millions of animals who endure this life every day in slaughterhouses everywhere. So, If you do care, go vegan. Stop the hatred and sow the seeds of compassion.

@illSavant All living beings release high levels of adrenaline when they feel fear, especially when they fear for their lives, this adrenaline is released all over their bodies, and is the exact poison that you are talking about. This is why we have stress, and anxiety from all the scared animals that everyone eats. The meat ends up being toxic for humans to eat.

@7hotfire I'm not sure that's true..I'm a medical researcher and havn't come across this claim as a mechanism for stress...It makes sense and I wouldn't doubt it's untrue and I like the hypothesis...stress and anxiety is so complex...actually I rarely eat as much meat unless I've been engaging in a routine training schedule where adrenaline would be helpful in motivating me since I tend to have a low energy physiology...in my case adrenaline is very stress relieving..being sleepy is stressful

You people aren't doing your research. This isn't kosher. Temple Grandin,in reguards to traditional kosher slaughter, stated that she believes the cattle don't feel distress over the first cut. they dont even feel the pain. They lose conciousness from blood loss and then they are slaughtered. The way these evil slaughterhouses are killing is not at all representative of actual kashrut practices. For you to spew anti-semetic hate speach about this is so irrational and illogical. Shame on you.

The cow gets a quick laceration across a surface level artery. The knife is required to be utmost sharp, so as to minimize discomfort. The blood pressure quickly falls and render the cow unconscious. It is as humane as slaughter gets. In non-kosher facilities, a type of bolt gun is used to quickly penetrate the skull and minimize discomfort. The problem is, sometimes it only knocks to cow out and the cow wakes up further down the butchering line.

@7hotfire this company was stripped of its kosher status by Jewish Rabbi's a couple of years back. I am Jewish and if i had the power i would prevent things like this. This is inhumane and the people who were killing these animals and saying that they did it in a kosher manner should be ashamed of themselves. This is not kosher.

This company filed for bankruptcy and closed it's doors in 2008. Shortly after this video was put out Jewish authorities stripped them of their kosher status. Only 1/3 of the meat they slaughtered was considered kosher in the first place and it's obvious this cow was not a kosher slaughter.
