I think this version is better, yes. but I realize that this song could never have been written by anyone else, just like every other song that has been covered some time.

I like Beck's version the best. His version is very intimate and subdued. I think it best reflects the lyrics. The pop versions, even the original, don't match the mood of the lyrics.
