According to Robert Fisk in his book "The Great War for Civilisation: The Conquest of the Middle East", pp.484,488–489, Israeli defence minister at that time Ariel Sharon and Chief of Staff Rafael Eitan met with the Lebanese Phalangist militia units, inviting them to enter the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps and telling them the PLO fighters were responsible for the assassination of their leader Bashir Gemayel. This is the core information that was neglected/distorted in this movie.
I saw this movie on 26 December 2008. It was great and intense & I hope this wins a lot of Oscars in writing, sound, foreign film and documentary as well as animated film & directing. It's amazing that this is only the second animated film from Israel. Can't wait for the DVD with the header of winning an Academy Award.
i watched this film last night and the cinema was just frozen after the film finished it is just an amazing piece of work i sooo wish it wins loads of awards because hear in England its relatively unheard of
i'm very happy that you liked the film. you can't imagine the response we get all over the globe. i'm sorry to hear that it's not getting good PR in england. i hope word of mouth will make it better (and you can help...)
oh my god the film was amazing for sure it is probably the best film of the year, that and dark knight - dark knight tries to be optimistic about the generalized things like how we treat each other and how powerful and inspiring the actions of one can be, but obviously waltz with bashir is about something true so i hope it gets the Oscars and golden globes....
Also i have been sort of advertising this film on videos where there are many young guys in England who post comments about how cool it is be soldier [on videos about Afghanistan or Iraq] and thoughts which i have heard both Ari Folman and David Polonsky want to make them question, the PR in England is not great i mean the city of Birmingham, i think, only one cinema has been showing it that depends how long ago was this film released in England do you know?
In Los Angeles it was opened on Christmas day . I saw it the next day & at the end of the movie it was quiet. It was very intense & I hope it gets an Oscar for more than animated film
This film deserves as much praise as possible. Im an animation student, and a group of us went to see it last night. it felt like oxygen... like someone had pushed what we do to a new level. this film is powerful on so many levels from artistic to political and everything in between.
Waltz with Bashir is the reason the medium of film exists.
thank you so much for your amazingly warm words (as the film sound designer I allow my self to enjoy it as a compliment...) I will forward your response to Ari Folman, I'm sure he'll be happy to read it
Please do! and my appreciation for this film goes to absolutley everyone who worked on it. i honestly consider every element to be incredible. and that definatly applies to sound aswell. brilliant uses of sound, but also of silence, which is so effective in something with this kind of subject matter.
yeah i know i read your intro, really really looking forward to see this film on the 18th i am also doing 2 modules based on the middle east, for my degree, and my lecturers actually advised me to watch this film

Surtout qu'au final, le film n'a pas eu de prix. Cannes, capitale mondiale des faux-culs dix jours par an...
